Warmer Holocene Confirmed In New Zealand

Sometimes I find stuff.

I was digging into New Zealand records for a totally different reason, when I came across the above graph on the official NIWA website. (NIWA, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, is a Crown Research Institute, i.e. the official government outfit).

Based on work by Jim Salinger, it shows the estimated temperature record for New Zealand, right back into the last Ice Age. Significantly it shows that, from 8000BC up until about 3000BC, temperatures were much warmer than present. Also, following a cold interlude, there was a another couple of thousand years which again were warmer.

NIWA describe the early Holocene period:-

The warmest conditions of the present cycle occurred between 10,000 and 6,000 B.P with temperatures about 1°C above modern values. This warmer climate was mild, with light winds and lush forests.

Why should this matter? There is abundant evidence that most of the Holocene was much warmer than now in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, but it is often claimed that this was not a global phenomenon. Higher temperatures in the NH were offset by lower ones in the SH.

The relative lack of landmass, and therefore evidence, in the SH made it a difficult claim to sustain, but also difficult to disprove. This evidence from New Zealand goes a long way towards proving that a warmer Holocene really was a global phenomenon.

None of this should come as any surprise, as HH Lamb himself repeatedly acknowledged this fact.

20thC Warming

NIWA’s notes on their graph state

This plot does not show the temperature rise of around 0.7°C that occurred over the 20th Century, because of the very compressed horizontal scale.

I originally interpreted this as meaning that the temperature reconstruction was only up to the start of 20thC warming. Then I reread it.

They claim that the warming is not noticeable because of the scale of the graph. This is nonsense. Squeezing the horizontal scale should actually do the opposite and make the uptick more pronounced.

Could it be that their reconstruction actually shows considerable less 20thC warming than their adjusted temperature records?

The entire fraudulent climate crisis is explained succinctly in Power to the People:

Details and references for the rise of the fraudulent climate crisis (1945-2013) are here:

I deeply regret that I could not connect the dots earlier.

Thank you for finding this data. I have sent it to our Minister for Climate Change, Tim Groser, and to various mainstream media.

Notice the declining warm peaks since then. The current warming is the coolest of the lot.
