According to NSIDC, Antarctic sea ice extent during October was the highest on record for that month.

The latest daily figures for 4th Nov show this trend continuing.

Meanwhile, global sea ice area is running just above the 1979-2008 mean.

    Sorry, this cannot be true.
    Humanity is spending 1billion a day combating Global Warming and yet you claim that the Antarctic has in fact cooled during the last 30 years.
    Clearly any Warming of the Earth was not Global in extent.
    Can we have our money back?

    Looks as if the global sea ice area fell off after the ENSO event of 2000, due to the heat being fed thru to the North Atlantic.If the NA now loses this warmth, perhaps the Arctic will continue to gain ice and hold more thru into the the summer.This will not bode well as it now becomes a Global Cooling event.

    CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition. It absorbs 1/7th as much IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 188 times as many molecules capturing 1200 times as much heat making 99.9% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.1% of it. For this we should destroy our economy?

    The Medieval Warming from 800 AD to 1300 AD Micheal Mann erased to make his “hockey stick” was several degrees warmer than anything “global warmers” fear. It was 500 years of great abundance for the world.

    The Vostock Ice Core data analysis show CO2 increases follow temperature increases by 800 years 19 times in 450,000 years. That makes temperature change cause and CO2 change effect; not the other way around.

    Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.

    adrian;
    Not quite; the real world lag is about 9 months. 800 yrs is the time it takes for the ice cores to register the change despite gas diffusion and the other vagaries of ice bubble behaviour.

    It might disconcert Branson and his ilk to discover that eras of increasing glaciation result in increased iceberg invasion of the Atlantic, resulting in deposition of glacial silt on the sea floors. IOW, calving and iceberg creation are signs of GROWING glaciers, not shrinking. Oops. (Shrinking glaciers just withdraw, silently melting and draining away, leaving moraines and stranded rocks behind. And uncovering frozen 5,000-yr-old farmland and waylaid travellers, etc.)

      Citation? I have seen several pieces saying 800 years and that appears to be correct per the charts and my analysis of them. An 800 year lag for “registration” would only mean all the gas has long dissipated. “Ice bubble behavior?” That should be easy to study; there is none.

      Who is Branson? Are you talking about Richard Branson the balloon man? What is IOW? My comment had nothing to do with glaciers unless you are referring to Vostok and I do not know if that is a glacier or fixed ice.

      I hate it when people come on with a lot of breezy BS, no citations, abbreviations, etc. all designed to do one thing: impress.
