I just went to have look at the DECC website, and accidentally landed on their blog page, so I thought I would click on Ed Davey’s blog.

The most recent post was from May, called “Europe must stay ambitious on climate change”.

I really had to laugh though when I saw this series of comments.

I have no idea who Tim Wakeling is, but he seems to be typical of the “Guardian reading”, “leading scientists must be right”, “BBC says”, “it’s the Koch Brothers fault”, sort of unthinking liberal who is so utterly convinced he must be right that mere facts are an irrelevance.

Needless to say, there was no reply from our Mr Wakeling, who probably now believes the Met Office are also part of the wicked conspiracy.

Unfortunately there are millions more from where this dribbling little idiot came from, courtesy of our dumbed down education system and trivialised media.

You won’t get a response when you bat the ball straight back at them. I had an exchange with one Rachel Kyte of the World Bank, who claimed that Haiyan was the result of climate change. I pointed out that AR5 did not link such to climate change, and that in fact the Philippine authorities listed the typhoon as the 7th strongest on record.

No response. Counter their belief systems and they go schtumm. I had the same on the Met office blog when some nitwit did as above. Show them reality and they are off. We are not dealing with rational behaviour here, which is the major reason why it is so hard to combat.

I wonder if D.Evans is Jo Nova’s clever husband.
Thanks for all your excellent posts.

“No response. Counter their belief systems and they go schtumm.”

    – Yep, that’s all I seem to experience now myself. It was starting to drive me insane until I decided to alter my perspective on it. They – and the media circle that bizarrely maintains these hysterical delusions in some kind of closed circle of chinese whispers – diverge sharply from even the official IPCC positions. There’s nothing to do now if they can’t be reasoned with than to give them a hard push further down that road and laugh at them. Hopefully the schadenfreude at the end of this long slog will make it worth it.

Try leaving a comment on the Guardian that does not concur with the alarmist point of view and it doesn’t matter how politely you put it, it will be removed and the message “does not comply with our comment policy” will appear. They are censoring debate. As others have said – because they have no argument to make.

    – I’m wondering if anyone else here has had the following experience too, when your interlocutor *does* respond after you have provided what is – effectively – data from an unimpeachable (to them) source. Instead of questioning their beliefs, they assert that unless you’re one of the anointed experts, you are not able to, or “allowed” to interpret the data.
