NHS To Save The World From Global Warming!!

The NHS was created out of the ideal that good healthcare should be available to all, regardless of wealth. When it was launched by the then minister of health, Aneurin Bevan, on July 5 1948, it was based on three core principles:
- that it meet the needs of everyone
- that it be free at the point of delivery
- that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay
These days though, it has another imperative, to save the world from climate change. In 2008, they issued the above “Draft Carbon Reduction Strategy”. In the Executive Summary, they had this to say:
Bureaucrats being bureaucrats, this meant one thing – heap upon heap of bureaucracy. As a result of the strategy, the Sustainable Development Unit was set up, as its website states, funded by, and accountable to, NHS England and Public Health England to work across the NHS, public health and social care system.
Their website has this section on “Carbon Hotspots”:

And, of course, there are all the usual buzz words, including route maps, sustainability, leadership engagement and development.
I am sure, therefore, that we will all be relieved to know that they have just published their latest, glossy strategy document.

Page 3 rather sums up the quagmire of quangos, which we find ourselves inflicted with.
The document goes on to list the visions and goals:
Apparently we never had cold weather or floods before!
The nonsense, of course, does not stop there. Every hospital has to have its own Carbon Management Plan, another excuse for more bureaucracy and cost. For instance, the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust.
The Morecambe Bay Trust has been at the centre of a health care scandal recently, as the Telegraph reported last year.
The Care Quality Commission is accused of suppressing an internal review that uncovered critical weaknesses in its inspections, which may have cost the lives of mothers and babies.
Regulators deleted the review of their failure to act on concerns about University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, where police are investigating the deaths of at least eight mothers and babies. There have been accusations that midwives colluded to hide errors. The trust, which faces at least 30 civil negligence claims, will also be subject to an independent inquiry in public.

I am sure the good citizens of Morecambe, though, will be mightily relieved that their local NHS service is doing its best to save us all from global warming.
Isn’t it time that our hospitals returned to doing what they were set up to do?

Is the photo at the top of the post meant to be an example of carbon sequestration, one breath at a time?
I wonder how their “Carbon Management Plans” will cope if we have a cold winter, and hospitals back up diesel generators are called on to help keep the grid from collapsing? Just think – they will be faced with the terrible dilemma of allowing all that carcinogenic black soot to be pumped into the atmosphere, or having lots of elderly people die from cold…
If pharmaceuticals are a major source of carbon, and is anesthesia, does that mean that drug usage will be cut and surgeries done without anesthesia?
As for dying from the cold, didn’t I read the patients were dying from heat this summer? There does not seem to be much to this except that glossy pamphlet and less than stellar patient care.
If a man’s pay depends on his believing something to be true he will believe it. There are so many people whose livelihood depends on their belief in CAGW that it will be impossible to shut the whole of this bogosity down. It is like a nasty virus that has infected the whole of society and the patient would rather operate at sub-par rather than take the medicine.
It is obviously a contagious disease. The BBC Has caught it and now the NHS. I hope I wibble catch wibble. Oh no wibble help wibble wibble

Keitho: Historically, isn’t that how all evil and bad things took root? We learn nothing from history it seems.
At immense expense (including sending delegates to conferences which just happened to be in exotic overseas destinations) PHE produce their ‘Heatwave’ plan to guide us ignorant public on what to do on the few days a year it gets warm.
One recommendation they made is to paint external walls & roof a light colour ‘to minimise solar gain’.
Despite being told ‘cold’ days outnumber ‘hot’ days by a factor of about 30:1, they refused to grasp the fact that most people benefit more of the time when solar gain is maximised.
Joe Public: Have you considered they might really be saying to paint the walls light colors in the summer and dark colors in the winter?
Ooooops. I hadn’t considered that. 😉
PHE’s ‘Cold Weather Plan for England’ fails to offer your suggestion.

Probably overlooked it and it will be in the revised edition! For a long time it was advised to use light colored shingles to reflect heat but I think research showed that to be flawed.
Thanks for the link. Most interesting read. Who knew you needed to tell people to have propane or wood on hand for winter? Do people even realize the government is telling them they are morons?
“Hello doctor, nice to see you again. You see I have this aching feeling in my left knee”.
“Hmmn, have you considered cavity wall insulation or solar panels?”
“Er, no but thanks for the consultation” (backing away towards the door).
Reduce harmful pollutants and CO2?
Let’s switch to wind, solar and erm diesel…hang on a minute..

The question is how much has this cost and how many new hospitals could have been built instead? Would my local hospital still be on the scrounge for a new imaging machine? How many people have died due to misappropriated funds?
But let’s not worry about that and instead feel good about ourselves
for killing people in the developing world and at home so quangos can produce glossy brochures and milk taxpayers‘cos we saved their grandchildren who at least won’t be born now, sacrificing their unborn souls to reduce our carbon footprint. Aw.I feel gooey and righteous inside now.

Seeing as that their duly certified sustainable staff appear to kill more people in their care than forecasts of ‘globull worming’, what is the plan to mitigate the risk that these sustainable staff present to the ailing public? … Oh, silly me, destroy the evidence! Doesn’t this just smack of the same tactics of the ‘climate science’ ™ community gatekeepers?
The greatest danger from AGW comes from belief in it.
