What do the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, World Association of Girl Guides, the Solar Energy Industries Association, the Maryknoll Sisters of Dominic, Women in Europe for a Common Future and the University of East Anglia have in common? They’ve all just come back from a beano in Peru!

Along, that is, with 1342 other organisations.

The UK Government sent 36 delegates, while British universities managed 32 more. Even the Buddhists managed to send 10, including their Weather Risk Specialist, Mr Ming Peng.

Greenpeace, WWF, Christian Aid, FOE and Oxfam together despatched 148 people. Has nobody told them about duplication of effort? Are those who donate to such charities really happy to see their money lavished on nonsense like this?

Even the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (!) thought it worth sending 7 delegates. I thought they were not bothered about earthly affairs!

The list goes on. (Well I expect you guessed that already!).

Wait for it – the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation sent their Chair, yes, Bianca, along with her research assistant.

As well as sending journalists, the BBC also sent 2 staff from BBC Media Action, described as the BBC’s international development charity. (More on them later).

At a conservative estimate of £5000 per head, the cost of participating must have been in the region of £50 million. Heaven knows what the carbon footprint was.

Well, I suppose it’s better than working. See you all in Paris next year!

it is good for the tourism in the country being visited…
otherwise you might think it is a waste of time: there is no man made climate change.

However, the natural climate change (global cooling) that is coming should not be ignored, either. Looking for less energy use, like more solar for warm water and light, better insulation methods, less energy waste etc. is still good.
Perhaps by accident, they still are still doing something that will prove to be benificial?

That pacific island conglomeration Tuvalu, which in the past has expressed concern about Climate Change & held out its begging bowl for ‘reparations’ from richer countries, not only sends its delegation, but also Ms. Salilo Enele Sopoaga, Prime Minister’s spouse.

Tanzania, that cash-strapped African nation manages to get 60 delegates onto the gravytrain. Led by a mere Vice-President, he nevertheless needed 2x snappers and a physician. In addition, they sent Ms. Shamim Elia Mshana, who according to the list is “ADC to the Spouse Private Office Vice-President’s Office”.

The World Intellectual Property Organization sent two delegates.

Even the European Patent Office deemed it necessary to sent someone.

Don’t laugh, but representatives from the Beijing Emissions Trading Association went. Presumably the irony of Chinese pollution contributing towards climate change, and their ingenuity at creating a market in which to trade the stuff was lost on the other 11,180 participants.

Amongst the UK participants were five from United Kingdom Youth Climate Coalition Limited. I wonder who paid for their company travel?

I suspect all Paul’s readers will be wondering if their personal invite was lost in the post.

Classic case of “Do as we say, not as we do”, total hypocrites.

Most people I know weren’t even aware the conference took place let alone attracted so many delegates. It would be interesting to see how many attend when it is next held in a less salubrious location. I’d probably sign up if it was in Manchester for example. Worth pointing out the DECC contingent to the Tax Payers Alliance?

Some are even unaware of the correct name of their employer.

Some think they were sent by the Department for Energy and Climate Change; others realise it was actually the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

        Freudian slip?

        A C O – Undoubtably. 😉

It’ll presumably be renamed to the Department for the Accumulation of Air Miles.

    “The Verb”?

Listed under “British Council”, anybody any idea? Can’t find it referenced on the BC site and no link on “The Verb” site, nor, that I can find, any explanation of what “The Verb” is?

And the carbon footprint was???? I do hope that the Inland Revenue or whatever name it uses now will be looking carefully at the expenses, especially as it is not for business purposes and is “benefits in kind”. At least that is the treatment I got when in work, admittedly some years ago now. And my expenses were legitimate!

    Thanks, Paul.
These organizations have more in common than tourism preferences; They all think they can perpetrate the AGW scam.
