Now It’s OK To Lie About Climate Change – Yale Project

March 1, 2015

Studies recently show that the global warming trend is in a bit of a slowdown. Does that mean we may be nearing the end of the heating period? Well, experts say that the slowdown may be quite misleading.

The study authors describe, “The recent slowdown in global warming has brought into question the reliability of climate model projections of future temperature change and has led to a vigorous debate over whether this slowdown is the result of naturally occurring, internal variability or forcing external to Earth’s climate system.”

Study author Anthony Leiserowitz goes on to describe “It’s fair to say that the vast majority of the public is completely unaware of the word ‘hiatus,’ or the word ‘pause,’ or any of the arguments that have been going on for a few years now between the scientific community and the deniers. The vast majority of, well, at least Americans, rarely hear about climate change in the media.”

Indeed, many people were a bit surprised to find that global warming was not, in fact, a myth; and more importantly, that the state of global warming was nearing critical mass and we are now in a place where we must make drastic changes or face equally dire consequences.

The Yale Project on Climate Change Communication lead researcher continues, “There have been a number of studies that have shown that some people will change their views of climate change based on extreme weather. It’s not enough to simply experience a heat wave — it then needs to be contextualized. It needs to be interpreted by thought leaders and trusted people in a community and by the media and scientists saying, ‘This is an indication of global warming.”

I’m not sure what Leiserowitz has been smoking if he really thinks the vast majority of, well, at least Americans, rarely hear about climate change in the media.

But his final paragraph gives the game away.

There have been a number of studies that have shown that some people will change their views of climate change based on extreme weather. It’s not enough to simply experience a heat wave — it then needs to be contextualized. It needs to be interpreted by thought leaders and trusted people in a community and by the media and scientists saying, ‘This is an indication of global warming”

So, apparently, it is now OK for scientists and other “trusted people” to make claims they know are not true, and use any extreme weather event to support the theory.

Has science really sunk so low?

Lying in support of Global Warming has been acceptable amongst the enthusiasts for some time now Paul. What these twerps don’t “get” is that many people now see how threadbare the warmist cause is without the lies.

When the cooling of the planet gets going, as it will thanks to natural influences, they will shout that it is because of Global Warming as well. What a joke these boys are.

Well, climate science has – and did so long ago.

Yes and it won’t just be limited to just “climate” science. The grotesque perversions here will have ramifications in the way all science proceeds. How can we teach science properly to young and impressionable minds when the scientific method itself has been abandoned?

It is conceivable that there are people who really believe in Unicornicopia, the Utopia that will come as a result of successfully fighting Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming… whoops, I mean Climate Change… which really means The New Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (which creatively takes into account facts that contradict global warming).

So they’re not really lying. It just that they believe, as do other Delusionals and Marxists / Socialists, that the great Unwashed, no matter how intelligent and steeped in reality they are, need an Elite to think for them.

Just like claims of some Islamists regarding Allah, they believe that one can’t really understand the “truth” of CAGW unless the great Almighty (whether one believes in the anthropomorphic version or not) has given you special privilege.

    • March 1, 2015 3:47 pm

VicV: Agreed. I know of one person who thinks socialism would yield a Utopia if we just gave it more time and money. We just have not tried hard enough. That is also why people continue to support Obama. They believe we just haven’t tried hard enough. It’s also what shields their seeing the failure of the plan. “I want to believe” is a very powerful emotion—it’s what keeps pseudoscience in business.

    Hi Paul,
Please take a look at this:

This is from 2011. It is about frequent collaborators Leiserowitz and Maibach attending a public relations retreat where the summit comes to a conclusion to explicitly use natural disasters and ‘extreme’ weather events to push climate activism. Such meetings were funded by John Lefevbre, Desmog’s founder. If Leiserowitz goes around pushing the same idea in his peer-reviewed papers, is that a conflict-of-interest/

Has science really sunk so low?

Um, yes, it has. And not just in so-called “Climate Change”, but in nearly every other branch of science as well: Astrophysics, Cosmology, Solar Physics, Biology, Medicine, Geology, Nuclear Physics, and others that I am not aware of, or can’t think of offhand. We are lied to each and every day (if we actually still listen to mainstream media.)

Yes. Until the flow of money dries-up, climastrology and green propaganda will rule the roost.

Dear Thought Leaders, with all due respect. Stop trying to scare us, we know that nature is in overwhelming control of the Earth, climate and all. You are showing a huge deficit in your respect balance.

I think the “thought leaders” hav been working overtime thruout the harsh winter in the US. I don’t know if it is only me, but it seems that the colder the winter gets that the more press releases and writs about the coming doom from too much CO2.

The headline says, “Officials warn…” By “officials,” it turns out, they mean climate researchers. “Pierce Pioneer” seems to be a college publication. If college reporters came up with the idea that climate researchers are government “officials,” it exemplifies how the US political class has allowed global warming to be sold K through college.

The whole religion has given an absolutely terrible name to scientist of all discipline. Honest and proper scientist are disgusted by what they see has been done to their profession. My question is always the same: “Why nobody speaks up?” the answer invariably is: “We have families to feed, if we speak up against this pseudo scientist, research funds will dry up and we will lose our job”! Some distinguished scientist have left the institutions they were working in and are now employed in private enterprise doing mundane research. Like all religions, CG, has had a period were they have built followers, now they are just out of stasis and starting to loose faithfuls.

When main authors of the IPCC report admit that they included unverified and laughably wrong information solely because it might influence policy makers to act, clearly the ends justify the means.

Actually this has been noted for some time now. I use this concept as the basis for Rule #3 and its corollaries from my “The Rules from the Climate Change Handbook” which is contained in my Climate Change Dictionary. (I have long been a fan of Ambrose Bierce and his Devil’s Dictionary. I would hope my efforts does some justice in comparison to his.)

Rule no.3 When there is a half imagined tenuous link between any possible weather event and Climate Change, the media is to report the worst possibly conceived consequence as if it were a totally factual outcome.

1st Corollary to Rule no.3 If the possibility of the weather event and Climate Change happening is HALVED, then the media is to DOUBLE the volume at which the potential catastrophe is announced.

2nd Corollary to Rule no.3 The more the above announcement is ignored, the more often it is to be repeated.

My Climate Change Dictionary can be found here:
