The Met Office run a renewable energy team, whose sole purpose is to raise commercial revenue. One of the main services they offer is a wind prediction tool, Virtual Met Mast”, which is designed especially to help large and smaller scale wind farm developers and wind farm consultants select the best onshore and offshore wind farm sites throughout Europe, it now offers major improvements in both accuracy and uncertainty statistics.

Last year they even opened a renewables service in Germany.

This is all well and good, but clearly it creates a conflict of interest for the Met Office.

On the one hand, they are publishing research on the dangers of climate change, and attempting to influence public policy. On the other, they stand to make money from the very renewable industries, who are benefitting from these policies.

While this conflict exists, the scientific integrity of the Met Office risks being called into question.

I wonder if the money they make from their renewables service is ever declared when their scientists publish papers?

The Met Office Renewable Energy Team – suggested motto:

“Our profits help the the rest of you pay less towards the not-always-accurate predictions of our colleagues”

Paul, have you been watching ‘Climate change by numbers’? I’m sure you’re reassured that all you fears about the homogenising of data have been shown to be misplaced?

Just been watching ‘Climate change by numbers’ what a poor program, flashy confusing graphics & presenters waking around with light sticks, scarey pictures of the Armageddon to come.

I now think it’s all my fault……sorry…… should I send a postal order to Al Gore to assuage my wickedness??

Met office services? Hands up anybody who thinks the UK’s peak power demand is going to shift to the summer as people rely more on air conditioning.?

“Impacts on the UK energy industry”

    What is the risk?

A changing climate could effect the generation and transportation of energy, not to mention the way we use it. Key UK energy companies needed guidance on how they can prepare for the threats and opportunities ahead.

    What have we done?

Using our climate models to assess future temperature increases, we looked at how this could effect all aspects of the energy industry. This included factoring in issues such as the affect of heat on the efficiency of thermal power stations. We also studied the potential changes in demand as our seasons are altered under climate change – such as an expected shift in peak power demand to the summer as people rely more on air conditioning.

Don’t forget about all the additional summer energy usage due to people staycationing instead of traveling abroad for their holidays.
The travel package holiday business had better start looking for another source of income as we Brits will be stopping at home more often!

      Doo I really need a /sarc

The scientific integrity of a plethora of pandering, prevaricating propagandists is in danger of being called into question? Do tell!
