Junk scientist, Katharine Hayhoe, thinks that a warming Arctic is causing cold weather in the States. Just like in 1977, I suppose!
Once upon a time, we had real scientists who knew the difference between cause and effect:

I don’t know what she learnt at college, but it certainly was not climate science.

I noticed this last two years how similar it is to the 1976-77 era. Same multiple blizzards and below zero weather.
Everyone was talking about Ice Ages, too.
True story: my heating system was very old in my brownstone so I and the plumber pulled out the system in mid-April. ‘There can’t be a blizzard in April!’ I said stupidly.
On April 15th, a huge blizzard blew in and temperatures fell into single digits. I had no heating system and none could be delivered for several days due to no snow clearing equipment which was put away several weeks earlier.
Brrr…heated the home with tree branches that fell i n Prospect Park.

Too many of these “Junk scientists”, learn from each other, without questioning the theories they’ve been told. Researching both sides of any situation, is the key for proper understanding, and getting to the truth! Do your homework, don’t just regurgitate what someone else has said!
Who the eff is Katharine Hayhoe?
She demonstrates she’s particularly clueless by using the image below on her F/book page.
Even 1st-year secondary school students would manage to identify the correct Y-axis value(s).
I bet if we had actual measurements going back 6000 years, they would be zigzagging up and down wildly.
Its pure junk science to attach very short term instrumental data to a much smooth proxy composition, especially when both the instrumental and proxy data have been massively bent to suit the fairy tale.

Many evangelical Christians are ‘Young-earth creationists’ who contend the earth (& everything else) was a literal six-day Creation 6,000ish years ago, so no surprise that Kathy puts up a graph 6,000yrs long !!
Poor dear never heard of the hockey stick controversy– and she even got that part wrong. The Handle is Flat! Mann said so. TAR agreed. Katherine, at least sync up with your fellow travelers. Perhaps even they do not want to associate?
That plot that Katharine shows is from Marcott. When interviewed, even he admitted that the vertical portion at he end of the plot is not “robust.” His data has a 300 to 400 year filter employed on the data so the instrument record concatenated on the end of his data could not possible show up in his data… it would be filtered out. If, 4000 years ago, that same spike actually occurred, just like the modern instrumental record, it would be totally filtered out by his data homogenizing processes used in his study. The plot that Katharine shows is truly concatenating apples and oranges.

Further, what she has is a temperature, not the anomaly, that would be written as Fahrenheit degrees (not degrees Fahrenheit).
I did some indepth research on KH during a “talk” she gave in Summer 2014. I was so astounded that the talk was so, shall I say, unprofessional, I tried to trace her academic history. All I will say here and now is the “history” is not very traceable. I did find she has appeared as an “expert” in a number of U.S. court cases against oil and gas companies. There are a few whiffs in the air which, when I have the websites handy that I have archived, I will add to this post. I think her role is orchestrated at the highest levels. More later…
Her followers who commented have serious reality issues. All peas in the same pod, sucking the same LSD-laced kool-aid.
Must be all that exposed sea water up in the Arctic. Sea water at 0C radiates some 30% more energy than ice at -25C. Over equal areas of course.
Hayhoe, is an evangelical Christian, is the daughter of missionaries & married to a pastor of an evangelical church.

So she’s well versed in preaching strange fictions as facts & always has the fall-back position of ‘you must have faith’ (or you are a sinner).
She appears to have little understanding of the physics of climate, but that doesn’t mater because she’s a true believer in the teachings of ‘good god’ Gore !!

But…in the meantime, “follow the money” for the setup of KH. I plan to present the “dots” with the “connections” that I have found, as soon as we are in the academic Spring Break period. In the meantime, I am teaching college students Earth and Atmospheric sciences…including how to assess data and understand scientific uncertainty. I also am trying to guide them in developing discernment in the polarized (no pun intended) political maelstrom we find “Climate Science” in presently.
At least my students understand Heliophysics and the differences between weather and climate!!!

Indeed; excellent comment. The info KH put(s) out is typical of the lack of understanding…as also evidenced by the talk I referenced from Summer 2014. No photos or recordings were allowed at the “talk” or I would have posted the “presentation” for you.
If any of you are Canadian and can get into those records, that would be helpful.
