It is worth having another look at this interview that Nils-Axel Morner did with EIR News back in 2007.

Thank you, Paul, for the information.

The US NAS (National Academy of Sciences) has a long track record of directing public funds (through annual reviews of budgets of federal research agencies for Congress) to deceive the public.

E.g., the last issue of Science in Dec 1975 was devoted to the SHE (superheavy element) fission fable.

A little true science goes a long way.

I hope someone can answer this claim by Dr. Karl, on his blog “abc.net.au/science”, as well as Dr. Nils-Axel Morner has done with the rising sea levels claims.

“Global warming shifts spin axis of Earth”
Great Moments in Science | It’s hard to believe that humans could tip the Earth off its axis – – even a tiny bit. But we have, and Dr Karl explains how.

    An extract:

Even though we are only a little way into the 21st century, the signs of global warming are obvious and many. There are droughts in East Africa, stranded polar bears in the Arctic, bleached coral reefs in the tropics, and retreating glaciers on land.

But the latest sign was a real surprise to me. By burning huge quantities of fossil fuels, we humans have actually tipped the Earth off its axis — by a tiny amount.

When I say “tiny”, let me emphasise how tiny. It’s centimetres per year, not hundreds or thousands of kilometres each year.

      Liz,

You respond to a science article with a list of unsupported and incorrect assertions. You have clearly decided that normal weather variations are the precusors to armageddon. I am sure you will enjoy the moral preening that your fear and guilt mongering will make you believe you are entitled to.

The Artic Ice is back to within normal ranges and heading for new highs over the comming decade, the droughts in East Africa are due to poor land use forced by the withholding of cheap affordable energy to the poorest of this world, the glaciers are retreating to reveal settlements that existed previously proving that they extend and retreat as part of a normal climactic cycle.

My personal favourite is the Earth tipping off its axis due to oil and gas use (most of which is created by geological processes and not the decay of plants – not “fossil fuels”). It is more likely to be due to all of the extra snow and ice that the Northern Hemisphere has gained this winter, well in excess of recent decades. Having said that, the error bars for the measurement equipement on satellites are orders of magnitude greater than the “centimetres per year” that you say we are tipping over by. This is truly laughable and proves that you are incapable of critical thinking.

        1. The atmosphere among Dr Karl’s blog commentators seem to be toxic, as if alarmists are trying to shout down skeptics
        2. The article ends with a political statement
        3. It contains no link to a paper or source

You seem to be reading more into this post than I do.
Taken in isolation, I can’t see that it supports “Dr. Carl’s” blog or otherwise.

is that Dr Carl Krisselnuttsky you are talking about ??

And the rabid anti reality ABC?

I wouldn’t put any credence on ANYTHING either of them say.

Here’s twitter conversation where Dr Karl said in Jan 2013, “Yup, world has warmed 0.3C in last 16 years” – got pwned – “.. a trend of 0.03C per decade or 0.05C since 1997 not 0.3C ..” No apology of course.

Sounds like a crackpot to me!

To cause a rotation of an object you would need to have some coupled means of transferring torque. Since air has no means other than friction to couple it to the surface of the earth it is not possible to cause any rotation of the earth.
