Dolphin and seal damage warning over wind farm expansion

A new generation of offshore wind and tidal farms could produce £14 billion of electricity every year for Scotland but pose a “significant” threat to wildlife, the fishing industry and islanders’ ferries, an official report has warned.
The Offshore Valuation Study found the developments have the potential to attract £60 billion of investment north of the Border and to create 20,000 jobs by the end of the decade.

With Alex Salmond, the First Minister, ruling out any new nuclear power stations, the report said the wind and tidal farms could eventually generate seven times Scotland’s electricity needs.

But the planned developments would cost an estimated £180 billion and have a major impact on a species including dolphins, seals, porpoise, wildfowl and other seabirds.

Perhaps we should not go overboard here, the sea is an awfullu big place.
But I suspect that if this was any other sort of industrial development, the greenies would be up in arms straightaway.

Going on the reports I read here and elsewhere I doubt the majority of the promised jobs will materialise and the most of those that are created will not be in Scotland.

But the planned developments would cost an estimated £180 billion and COULD (but won’t) produce £14 billion of electricity every year, so even at their plated rating they won’t even pay back in electrical production in 14 years when they will all need replacing again.
What an absolute waste of Money.

“but pose a “significant” threat to wildlife, the fishing industry ”

But you can bet that Green we’lltakeourPiece and WWF won’t say a word .

They worship the wildlife destruction wrought by wind turbines.
