If Democracy Can’t Respond to Climate Change, Should We Abandon Democracy? | Big Think

September 25, 2015

Well at least they’re honest.

But I would like to know why there were no floods before we had SUV’s

Perhaps instead they should read the fable:

And acquaint themselves with “The moral stated at the end of the Greek version is, “this shows how liars are rewarded: even if they tell the truth, no one believes them”.”

We have reached what I predicted in the ’70’s. If scientists lied and fudged, there would come a time when the public caught on and then they “would be forever trying to get their reputations back.”

I see the same thing in medicine. “One in 68 children is diagnosed with autism.” That is simply not reasonable. Medicine has glommed onto the money to be found in “victimism”.

Another appeal to alarmism devoid of facts. So now the AGW narrative is demanding drastic action to force non believers into submission. The more reality escapes them the more desperate their cries become. We are in sad times.

The article is written by someone who does not realize that people can legitimately have opinions separate from her own. Democracy means that those with power may lose it to those they dislike. It also means that what you view as the major priorities, based on the most rational arguments might be rejected in favor of what you view as morally and intellectually inferior. But a proper democracy also means that you should be able to challenge the existing order. The despots, whether actual or potential, are the ones who are creative in finding reasons why they should not compete in the realm of ideas and values.

Lame rhetorical question and lame blog. CO2-anthropogenic global warming (CAGW) has been disproven as a hypothesis. It is now a hoax perpetrated by cynical carbon credit traders, politicians acting on behalf of the environmentalist crazies and pseudo-scientists that staked their now absent reputations of a deeply flawed theory.

The article is hot air gossip, but the attitudes revealed are actually sinister. In a democracy you can advise “the people” of the potential consequences of their actions, but you cannot tell them what to think. Telling people what to think and then mobilising them for mass manifestations of support belongs to North Korea, not to western democracies.

Paul, It might be very interesting to try to pull together a list of all the fossil fuelled fired power stations being planned around the world.

China has built about 3 or 4 coal fired energy plants every month for the past 10 years and has separate plans to build 50 coal gasification plants estimated to produce 1.1 billion tons of carbon dioxide/year

Japan is going to construct 43 coal fired plants to replace nuclear power.

then there is Germany, Turkey, some African countries etc etc

I see no shortage of atmospheric CO2 for food production for a long, long time., a fact we can be very glad of.

In fact I can only see ever increasing amounts, to the massive benefit of the planets plant life.

I had a quick read of a lot of the comments most, if not all, did not support AGW – except ONE (who most comments scorned – but he liked getting responses; a typical troll)

Classic NLP projection: pose a rhetorical question to address a supposed (often fake or minor) problem and then – boom! – propose your own magical solution! Wow, such genius! Daphne I feel honoured and humbled to even be sharing the same living space on our planet as your magnificent self.

As Strativarius I posted a reply pointing out Maslowski’s 2007 prediction of ice free Arctic summers didn’t happen.

    The post disappeared moments later.

Should we ask why it is that the most polluted countries are those which are dictatorships, even Marxist dictatorships instead of democracies or representative republics (such as the US)? My late brother was on a trip of scientists to Poland in the ’70’s. He talked about how dirty that country was.

But we could look at the great success of what is known as “the projects” here. They are full of garbage, no maintenance, drugs and murder. They have destroyed people, families, neighborhoods and cities. Then there are the wizards of smart such as the author. Perhaps she should visit “Earth Day” celebrations. Ask the police or sanitation personnel if they would rather work “Earth Day” or a “Tea Party” rally?
