New Cameron Climate Pledge Amounts To – Bugger All!
September 30, 2015
By Paul Homewood
I meant to look further into this the other day, and forgot!
Two things need spelling out:
- The total amount, actually £5.8bn is to be spread over five years, between April 2016 and March 2021. It also compares to £3.87bn spent over the last five years, so most is not new money at all.
- The money is all to be funded from the existing Overseas Aid budget, fixed by law at 0.7% of GDP. In other words, there is no new money at all, simply a reallocation.
According to the Telegraph:
Funding will go towards projects such as encouraging developing countries to adopt solar energy, funding flood-resistant crops and rolling out mobile banking.
Funding flood-resistant (and for that matter drought and insect resistant) crops seems to be an eminently sensible thing to do, although I am not quite sure what mobile banking has to do with the climate? Perhaps it is so you can pay your bills while trapped in your house by the aforesaid floods!
I trust the solar panels will also be flood proof!

I had a feeling this was money redirected from funds that used to go on “all the green crap”. Obviously not. So all that green crap money is staying in Gideon’s pockets?
Cameron still believes the IPCC. Which proves you can fool some of the people all the time.
Amazing that the foreign aid budget is fixed by law when the Cameron government doubled the national debt between 2010 and 2015.
£6 billion… what a bloody waste and they cant find any cash to keep one of our ‘national asset’ steel producing plants going
Pretty free with other peoples money
Who the hell authorised that !
Pity we couldn’t get a vote on it …
How many funerals will £6 Billion pay for as the deaths mount from not enough electrical power?
With the bans on GMO plants, where is this “flood resistance” supposed to come from?
Mini umbrellas?
