You Sad Little Man, Mr Connolley

January 21, 2016

By Paul Homewood

If one needed a better example of the scum that represent climate “science” these days, you would not have to look much past William Connolley, who had this to say about the sad death of Bob Carter:

Actually A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it, but I’m allowed to paraphrase in titles. And anyway he said it in German, naturally. Today brings us news of another such advancement in science, with the reported death of Robert Carter.

As far as I can recall, he was a minor figure in the Great Climate Wars; at least, I don’t seem to have been very interested in him. He gets those usual suspects Robert M. Carter, C. R. de Freitas, Indur M. Goklany, David Holland & Richard S. Lindzen wrote in 2007; a throwaway line ($1,667 per month) from Heartland in 2012. That seems to be it. It’s a bit of a sad end when even I couldn’t be bothered to attack him. Sou was a bit more interested; or Deltoid back in the day.

What a sad, pathetic excuse for a man you are Mr Connolley.

Is Connolley still corrupting Climate entries in Wikipedia?

Connolley is beyond disgraceful and not worthy of being acknowledged as human being. There are no words strong enough in the English language to express how low and contemptible that comment is.

  6. January 21, 2016 11:09 pm

I had the privilege of meeting Bob Carter who advised us on a wind farm which tore our community apart. An honourable and honest man with impeccable scientific credentials. Connolley on the other hand ….

This pathetic excuse for a man clearly doesn’t realise that his spiteful words about the late Bob Carter will probably have the exact opposite effect to that which he intended and will now lead many people (me being just one of them) to now go out and buy the book, “Climate: The Counter Consensus”. What an idiot!

  11. January 22, 2016 12:44 am

Reblogged this on Climatism and commented:
WILLIAM CONNOLY – Absolute scum. Remember that name.

Though the nature of his vile comments proves how effective and dangerous Bob Carter was (and still will be) to their scam, so thinly built on hot air, lies, manipulation, grants, propaganda, fear and alarmism.

  12. January 22, 2016 12:58 am

Just yesterday Grist were complaining that some sceptic had said something nasty about some alarmist with cancer.

And yes Connolley is scum. He is just evil – there’s no other explanation for his appalling behaviour.

  13. January 22, 2016 1:00 am

Ah yes, Mr Connolley, who was banned from editing climate related articles on Wikipedia for dishonesty. What credibility.

Name one alarmist with half the credentials and coherence and dignity of Bob. None even close, and there will never be one. A sell-out with integrity is impossible.

  15. January 22, 2016 1:45 am

Some right charmers in the comments too at that place… I suspect mine might make it past moderation as an example of immoderate language.

Actually his remarks went sailing past shameless into the realms of derangement – not that that is in any way shape or form a let-off imho.

Of course Connelly’s comment is also inappropriate because it was originally made (by Max Planck) in reference to scientific truths, not fraud. (Why are so many in such a rush to return to the dark ages?)

  17. January 22, 2016 5:46 am

Perhaps Connolley attended the same charm school as his friend, Phil Jones, who infamously called the untimely death of John Daly “cheering news.”

The likes of Connolley, Jones, Mann, etc. have corrupted the noble pursuit of scientific knowledge into a political blood sport. The reason they hate incorruptible scientists like Bob Carter and John Daly is explained in John 3:20.

One of the problems with so-called climate science, is that it isn’t science at all. People have taken up sides, entrenched positions even, which is why some nasty people rejoice in the sad death of a well-respected scientist. The whole scientific world should mourn the passing of one of their own, but that’s not how it works any more. I haven’t spotted a single tribute from an alarmist scientist, regarding Bob Ward’s sad demise. There are many reasons why I don’t believe the alarm-mongering eco-fascists, but the sheer nastiness of the average eco-fascist, contrasting with the decency of the average sceptic, is another reason to add to the list.

  23. January 22, 2016 12:11 pm

Once more Connolley shows he has no honor, dignity or moral. If I was a warmist I would be most embarrassed having such a person in my camp…

This is Connolley’s moral funeral and his memorial. A sad way to go.

  25. January 22, 2016 1:17 pm

Of course Connolley wasn’t interested in Bob Carter. Bob had deep respect for the scientific method and for people in general. These are concepts Connolley cannot comprehend.

  26. January 22, 2016 2:02 pm

As one who believes in the sanctity of human life, I never wish anyone dead. I never cheer when a killer convicted of hideous crimes is put to death although I support capital punishment for those persons. It is a tragedy and necessary, but not to be celebrated.

However, I cannot help but see that those on the left have no respect for life, especially those who dare to disagree with them. The worst thing you can be with them is inconvenient, be it an unborn baby or one in opposition to their ideas.

I doubt they consider they are espousing the same attitudes of recent and past totalitarian mass murderers. The tragedy is that society suffers from the insufferable.

  27. January 22, 2016 2:22 pm

Why doesn’t Connolley simply mention that big TV debate where beat Carter with facts and logic ?
Oh hang on, there wasn’t one, cos although Carter was up for it, warmists warriors can’t do public debate, rather they run away
…and even try to get Carter banned from the airwaves instead.
I expect Carter would have made Connolley look stupid in such a debate. But Connolley only sneers at Carter, before his funeral, knowing that he can’t answer back.

Note the PROJECTION : “he was a minor figure in the Great Climate Wars”

Note how the cartoon Connolley chooses contradicts himself. It shows the naive masses following simplistic explanation, instead of the complex truth.

The Max Planck quote “A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light,” is about formal science getting stuck in dogma and ignoring challenges.

Science should advance ONE challenge at a time .. and that is the way Carter played it.

    • January 23, 2016 4:43 am

Seems to me that Connolley thinks himself a major “figure” in the “Great Climate Wars”.

Yet another prostituting himself for government grants.

      No science involved.

  28. January 22, 2016 2:23 pm

See also this post by Brad Keyes which compares Connolley’s remarks with what Phil Jones said about John Daly.

  29. January 22, 2016 2:26 pm

Minor Gripe. I see Conn practices censoring. A blog post was marked “New comments have been temporarily disabled. Please check back soon.”
    …em about 3 years ago !

How Conn showed his CLASS in his previous blogpost

“Speaking of denial, a late update: Robert Carter has kicked it”

    His commenters showed similar class.
“Deceased, according to his former employers at The Heartland Institute – but can they be trusted?”

BTW Paul Matthews you have but Conn had a sneer at “” in 2013

Climate deniers attack NASA scientist dying of cancer By Katie Herzog

As ever in their well funded PR campaign the article was reposted about 50 times
(original article has only 5 different commenters)
The 3 “hateful” deniers* they are angry about are Delingpole, Lubos Motl (Motl has asked Borensteain for apology for misrespresenting him on the matter) and Morano (who simply quotes Motl adding no comment)
    * (apparently to Grist shouting denier at people is not hateful)
The 3 articles just respectfully point out the logical fallacy that just cos a dying man belives something, that doesn’t make it more true.

(“pancreatic cancer stage 4” ..means of a 10 year survival rate of 1% Motl says it’s common top astronauts.)

BTW I forgot to say I’m not angry with Conn, I just pity him. People can get trapped into things.. I hope he finds a way back into the real world.

    • January 22, 2016 10:08 pm

Lubos Motl was very nice about this. He did indeed just point out that someone dying does not make his words absolutely true nor is it any reason to adopt a position that you believe to be wrong.

  33. January 22, 2016 4:27 pm

Bob Carter was a good scientist and a very good man. I have a dozen links to his work in Observatorio ARVAL’s Climate Change pages.

  34. January 22, 2016 6:06 pm

We who read Bob Carter, and even corresponded with him, knew him to be a completely honest scientist without any allegiances to political masters. Connelly’s comments reflect very badly on him.

  35. January 23, 2016 12:28 am

Was any bodies life been improved by that post? Did it add anything worthwhile? It seems rather a sad reflection not on Bob Carter, but on Stoatie who seems bitter and twisted, who even in death still wants to belittle someone who fought for what he believed in. There’s no honour or integrity in that.

  36. January 23, 2016 6:21 am

Delingpole now strongly attacks Conn’s reputation (With a good 2010 link to WC’s amazing Wiki edit trend of about 60 edits per day)

BTW over Conn’s blog he seems to be playing SkS type games with the comments. Instead of just leaving them and replying underneath, it looks like he edits other people’s comments and adds his view there. ( and leaves in the sweary angry posts and adds extras from emails which make skeptics look bad)

With warmism seems to centre on dirty PR tricks
Indeed Conn’s article seems to be about “Playing the man and not the ball”
