Kerry: Climate Change as Dangerous as Terrorism

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday that climate change is as dangerous as, if not more, than the threats posed by the Islamic State and other extremist groups.
Speaking Friday in Vienna at an international climate change conference, Kerry said the issue might not get as much public attention as terrorism but that the meeting is as important as a gathering he hosted only Thursday in Washington on combatting the Islamic State.
"What you are doing here right now is of equal importance, because it has the ability literally to save life on this planet," Kerry told the conference of parties to the 1987 Montreal Protocol, a global treaty to end the use of many chlorofluorocarbons from aerosols and refrigerants that deplete the ozone layer.

Try telling that to the thousands of families who have lost loved ones to ISIS. Or the much greater numbers who are forced to live under its medieval yoke in the Middle East.

By the way, the Vienna meeting is a Montreal Protocol meeting. The topic is the worldwide ban on HFC, a refrigerant used mostly in developing countries, and considered to be a greenhouse gas thought to account for about 15% of the warming give or take. (A very active researcher in this area is Halldor Armannsson. For more info on warming by the greenhouse effect of HFC one could just google Halldor). Anyway, when the worldwide ban is completed, it is estimated by the proponents of the ban that it COULD reduce warming in the next 85 years by 0.5C. This is the whole of the topic of the meeting Kerry addressed. I don’t think the he knew where he was or what the subject was but chose simply gave his canned climate speech. It was kind of off topic.
With regards to the Montreal Protocol I would like to add that NASA and UNEP are now congratulating themselves with the claim that the Montreal Protocol ban on CFC worked because the “ozone layer is healing”. This is a curious claim for two reasons. (1) According to the Montreal Protocol and the Rowland-Molina theory of chemical ozone depletion, the healing effect of the Montreal Protocol ban is not expected to begin until 2050. (2) If it is healing, what is it healing from? There is no evidence that it was ever sick.

Yes, it’s ironic that they replaced CFCs with HFCs, that supposedly cause global warming!
Regardless of the validity of the claims about HFC , anyone who claims he can determine the temperature 85 years from now to within 1/2 degree should not carry the “scientist ” label. It is idiotic on its face. “Healing effect” in 50 years? Pretty laughable. Those climate models must be running overtime. Re Kerry: Kerry is at best a pseudo intellectual, a political hack, and based on his post Viet Nam testimony before Congress, a traitor as well. Buffoon also comes to mind but that would be too generous.

The real HFC tragedy was the fraudulent money made in carbon offsets. I’m not sure if it was the HFC or a byproduct of its manufacture but since it was such a strong greenhouse gas, there was a huge multiplier over the carbon price to destroy a ton of this. This made making and destroying this compound a very lucrative business. http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=18291 So much so that 43% of money for the carbon offsets available on emissions trading schemes before 2010 went to destroying this gas. So does this agreement save life on this planet or the reputation of bureaucrats that developed hair brained schemes that are easily gamed to make a few shady business people wealthy through inflated green taxes on energy?
The real tragedy is that the chlorine from CFCs has never been shown to have destroyed any stratospheric ozone. The Prize-winning Molina-Rowland hypothesis failed. They predicted catalytic destruction in the middle stratosphere where the dreaded ClO peaked. Ozone loss took place in the lower stratosphere, physically apart from one another. So, Rowland and Solomon moved on… admitted the failure of “homogeneous” chemistry and designed a new truly esoteric “heterogeneous” model, which of course applies only to the polar regions in their winter.
John Kerry demonstrates the fixation on abstract climate possibilities rather than clear and present dangers. Money and egos are at stake, but it is also a moral breakdown.

Perhaps he should relocate to an ISIS territory that does not have air conditioning. He’d be so much safer.

It was once pointed out to me that the initial skyrocketing of the national deficit can be traced to the years that air conditioning started appearing in DC. The theory was that, prior to A/C, lawmakers couldn’t stand the heat and humidity of the Potomac basin and would recess for the summer months. With the advent of A/C, they could stay year-round and started passing more laws and spending more money.
So, if this works for State, I’d like to see the program expand throughout the District.
John Kerry, like Bernie Sanders, has been very outspoken about the “climate change” dangers facing us all. Neither of them is a scientist so where do they obtain their expertise to make these absurd assertions? Follow the money?
I think that he left a word out of his statement…… “activism”, after Climate Change.
