Old potato head is back!

Having done his best to wreck the U.K.’s energy industry, Ed Davey, now wants to do more damage;

From PEI:

Davey calls for independent system operator to improve UK grid

A former UK energy secretary believes the Conservative government has severely neglected the country’s power grid development at the expense of renewables.

His comments come in the same week as the National Grid released its 2016 Future Energy Scenarios report.

Sir Ed Davey headed the energy portfolio in the last coalition government and he told Power Engineering International, “Since the May 2015 election, the Conservatives’ energy policy has been a disaster – especially for renewables and investment in the grid to facilitate renewables.”

PEI add:

The Liberal Democrat, now chair of renewables firm Mongoose Energy, added that the government may need to look beyond National Grid in terms of coming up with pragmatic solutions to the UK’s energy issues.

What he wants is for the Grid to spend billions on storage capacity, to fill in when his precious renewables don’t work.

The fact that Mongoose Energy might benefit obviously has not crossed his mind!

Perhaps he learnt the art of vested-interest-under-the-guise-of-wisdom lobbying from Trougher Yeo?

So, one year of neglect since he was in charge has produced a disaster. Best laugh I have had since “The Play That Went Wrong” which could easily be taken as an allegory for his performance in office. I ROTFLMAO at “making the grid fit for renewables”. All this time I thought the prime purpose of the grid was to provide power on demand 24/24, that explains so much of what he did |(and is doing now).
“the conservatives energy policy has been a disaster.. for renewables and investment to facilitated renewables (but for the rest of human race – salvation).
He seems to have deleted the last bit.

    The Green revolution continues…
Now they understanding that Western nation’s efficient electric power distribution through a stable grid network is the key. Break the grid and industrialisation goes. The grid distributing cost effective, stable electricity is the key to the economy, the key to communication, the key to health and well-being of the nation’s citizens. Control the grid and control the nation.
Disruption of the grid throws the nation back to the dark-ages, back to mass poverty and the rule by the crony capitalist elites.
So should the grid be given to an “independent system operator to improve UK grid” when so much depends on it? Surely this is a call by vested interests to enact an Enron style scam.
Could this “independent system operator to improve UK grid” eventually be in the pocket of a foreign company or nation?
And how much does Mongoose Energy pay Mr Potato-head for this lobbying? Time for a FOI request?

He should be put on trial for Malfeasance in Public Office. It might have been Treason had one Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, presumably to save his skin, not abolished that Act of Parliament.

I warned key people in 2001 that the only way the windmills ould work was to build massive pump storage, plus nuclear power, thus developing artificial hydro to sink wind power surges.

However, since the nuclear power would provide the electricity won its own, we might as well not build the windmills. And now we have Ed the Idiot who has apparently found a village realising that he cocked it up.

Paul, here is a European Report that paints a pretty dark picture of our Energy situation, it looks like we will at some stage have to rely on the Capacity Mechanism to keep the lights on.

Maybe ACO’s info linking to ….

    https://www.entsoe.eu/Documents/SDC%20documents/MAF/MAF_2016_FINAL_REPORT.pdf

….. explains why, despite the dramatic decrease (~20%) in gas prices in the past year & the fact gas contributes substantially to GB power generation, my June-renewed electricity contract *increased* by ~+8%.

    Davey is a liar and a con-artist.
    What are his other virtues?

The UK should ‘do a Portugal’ and show the likes of potato head the door.

‘The Portuguese secretary of state for energy has announced that subsidies to renewable energies are to be phased out, once existing contracts expire.’
