Fossil Fuels Still Dominate UK Energy Mix

The government has now published the UK energy stats for last year.

Below is the key table showing primary energy consumption, in Mtoe:

The key statistic is that fossil fuels still supply 81.5% of consumption, with nuclear accounting for a further 8.2%.

In contrast, wind, solar and hydro only account for 2.4%.

Anybody who claims that we can rapidly eliminate fossil fuels, and even nuclear, as the Green Party wants, is talking through their hat.

I didn’t think it was their hat that the Green Party speaks through.

Excellent, the Greens want to take us back at least ten times as many years.

        Damn, a rush of nostalgia.

I was (am) a blues/rock lover but I loved Lindisfarne and this, amongst others.

Thankfully, in my youthful naivety I just danced to the music, and was thankful I got to snog lots of birds because of it. A simple life

Why do people insist on imposing politics on our youth, depriving them of the innocent fun we all enjoyed?

Maddy Prior has one of the greatest female voices around.

There you go again Paul, confusing everybody with FACTS.
You know they can’t take those, they will need treatment to overcome the trauma.

I wonder how many square miles of our beautiful countryside and waters have been taken up to produce this miserable contribution to our energy needs.

It’s not just the many square miles of our beautiful countryside and waters that have been taken up to produce this miserable contribution to our energy needs, it’s the thousands of square miles of ruined landscape, the thousands of lives blighted by noise and the millions of people thrown into fuel poverty by this useless and unreliable means of generating electricity.

What are the units of the table, tonnes, joules, BTh U or pink elephants?

      Good spot!!

It is Mtoe – my fault, as it is printed on the right hand side of the table, which I cropped off

Thanks for pointing out – I have now made a note on the post

      Paul
