Delingpole: Michael Mann Crowdfunds Worst Children’s Book Ever

October 14, 2017

Dellers takes a look at Mickey Mann’s new book:

Michael Mann is writing a children’s book about climate change.

Don’t all rush to donate at once – you might break the internet – but he wants you to pay for it through crowdfunding.

The book is called The Tantrum That Saved The World.

Michael Mann knows all about tantrums. Probably his biggest was the one that led him to sue Mark Steyn for having had the temerity to suggest that his now-infamous Hockey Stick was fraudulent. The case has been grinding on for six years now: as Steyn says “the process is the punishment”. Also, the alarmists funding it really can’t afford for it ever to be resolved because the disclosure requirements may open a can of worms so huge that the $1.5 trillion a year climate industry may never recover.

His other big toys-out-of-the-pram moment was when he sued Canadian climatologist Tim Ball who had jested that Mann “should be in the State Pen, not Penn State.”

Both, of course, will likely be exceeded by the Mother of all Tantrums Mann throws if and when he loses both cases, when his reputation is left even more tattered than it is already, and when his vexatious lawsuits succeed in exposing “climate change” as probably the biggest fraud in the history of science.

About “saving the world”, however, Mann knows not quite so much.

Perhaps he is leaving that part to his co-author, Australian writer-illustrator Megan Herbert.

Herbert is dealing with the story side of the book, which involves a little girl called Sophia and – with wearisome inevitability – a polar bear.

Mann, meanwhile, claims he will explain the “science” of climate change.

In one section, for example, he will “tell the stories of the climate refugees our heroine encounters.”

Ah yes. That will be “climate change refugees” as in the ludicrous myth briefly promoted by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). In a 2005 paper – subsequently withdrawn – UNEP claimed that there would be 50 million climate refugees by 2010.

The actual number of “climate refugees” which has emerged since is a big fat zero.

“We wrote this book because in our view nothing like it exists,” the authors claim in their Kickstarter appeal.

Clearly they can never have been anywhere near a school in any Western nation because had they done so, they would find the classrooms full of such books, all spouting the same junk-scientific global warming propaganda about vanishing polar bears and melting icecaps and sinking Pacific Islands and imperilled future generations.

Still, if you’re interested in purchasing a copy, the good news is that it is sustainably printed, FSC certified, uses biodegradable vegetable dye and with carbon offsets.

Personally I think they are missing a trick. If only they’d used soft tissue paper and packaged in it in a roll, I think a lot more of us might have been interested.

Within a few years publishing something like this will constitute child abuse.
Is Mann really so dim that he hasn’t realised that polar bears are not threatened?

Whaddya expect from someone whose Phd studies were, allegedly, funded on condition that he create climate propaganda?

Not only that, his “data” was based on a set of dendrochronology trees that was too small to show anything much less CO2 effects. They were cherry picked from a larger data set. However, there is too much “noise” with tree growth to pick out something such as CO2. Handy, as it allowed him to “find” anything.

Periodically, Mark Steyn subs for Rush Limbaugh and we get an update on the court case. Recently, Mann lost his case against Dr. Tim Ball in the British Columbia court system. Steyn’s comments on the case against him and reports about the Ball case are so hilarious, I hesitate to wish for an end to the fun.

Between stints on Rush, Mark is often on Sean Hannity or Tucker Carlson and even Fox&Friends in the morning. With Mann being so publicly put in his place, it is a wonder he is still the loud-mouth buffoon he is. I surmise that such a personality is incapable of rational behavior.

“We wrote this book because in our view nothing like it exists,”

These people seem to have a worldview that has simply no contact with reality whatsoever. You only have to Google “children’s books about c” in order to check whether this statement is true or not.

You can always rely on Dellers to give us a good read. I love the last paragraph (oh, and all the others too).

Time for an apposite reminder of a couple of lovely Xmas stocking fillers illustrated by Josh:

I can’t recommend “tiny the turbine”. It gives a completely FALSE view of the wind industry. You cannot run them off with a tank. You can’t run them off with a lawyer. You can’t run them off in most cases. Lying to children about having power to change something that is virtually resistent to change is not cool. A book that tells of the destruction of land, dead birds, rich running over the environment for personal gain and few being able to stop them is more honest. Children need to know this is a BATTLE, not something you can resolve in 5 minutes with a tank. (Yes, I am opposed to fairy tales being told to children. It warps their world view, unless we’re talking old time Grimm’s fairy tales. Children need useful information, not worthless cheerleading. Walt Disney did more environmental damage than any oil company dreamed of.)

I thought the Tim Ball case had been decided against Mann. The court demanded he produce his research and he never showed. Unlike the case against Steyn, the Canadian court doesn’t play around with this BS and ruled in favor of Ball requiring some huge sum of money from Mann, I think to cover the cost of Ball’s defense.

Or have there been newer developments that I missed?

  7. October 14, 2017 4:17 pm

When will the two cases against this potential fraud be resolved as after all the hockey stick was disproved years ago?

  8. October 14, 2017 5:38 pm

I do have to take issue with James Delingpole about one thing he wrote “The actual number of “climate refugees” which has emerged since is a big fat zero” Sorry James, there are at least two; my wife and I moved to Marbella, Spain from Newcastle upon Tyne when I retired two years ago. It is very pleasant here, despite the fact that the “experts” predicted that our apartment would now be in the middle of a desert and the climate refugees would be going in the opposite direction.

Andrew, you live there with 310,000 British “climate refugees”
      https://fullfact.org/europe/how-many-uk-citizens-live-other-eu-countries/

And what about the 1,000s of snowbirds in the states.

In total there must be millions of “climate refugees” around the world & I’m 97% convinced it’s because of the climate.

I-79 through West Virginia is a dangerous road to travel when the Ontario traffic is headed to Florida for the winter and back home in the spring. They definitely view 70 mph as a suggestion rather than limit.

Now then what could I give to the chief of Penn state space cadets – one Mickey Mann?

Nope, can’t think of anything other than a lot of choice advice suitably, in the verbally embossed vernacular and er oh…….better not say that, the litigious little twerp might take umbrage – yer know how sensitive he is, just like a petulant child can be………….oh er wait!

put it this way, his new adventure into childrens fantasy is not much of a lane change from climastrology lab No 1. Penn state faerie stats factory hmm, his pathetic school boy outpourings, his hand, and not least his piss poor ‘rithmetic and makes me wonder on what his last effort [tome ‘climatastrophe according to yer Mann vol 43] did sales wise……………….a print run of a ~ 2000? NOW! going for fifty cents + free P&P on Ebay for 10 new copies?

Nice to have a modern fairy story. This will become a legend in years to come when the Climate Change bubble bursts.

The entire scam is a fairy tale of imaginary demons.

  13. October 14, 2017 8:36 pm

Sorry, but I can’t resist the pun. Michael Mann is infantile and so is this book. However, that does an injustice to those young people who are actually able to think sensibly about these things. Still, infantile does come to mind …

Has ‘rank commercialisation and profiteering’ been directed at Mann yet?

    If not, this is it.

Much like Al Gorebles, Mann seems to be fattening the goose that laid the golden egg, before it’s slaughtered for the fraud it is.

Tragically, the little worm will walk out of the climate debate, again like Al Gore, a very wealthy man, and face no retribution when the entire scam collapses.

Mann is now exposed as a sensationalist opportunist who uses his position of authority as a means to line his own pockets and/or provide a PR platform from which to promote his position and personal wealth.

A celebrity ‘scientist’. Much like talent competition winners, with no talent and no substance, going on to earn money from vacuous self promotion.

Re Joan Gibson: “Recently, Mann lost his case against Dr. Tim Ball in the British Columbia court system.”

Please provide citations, links etc. If the case is closed, the BC Court documents should be public domain. Paul posted here a news item about that case which I followed up. I concluded it was probably hasty wishful thinking from an unreliable source. If I’m wrong and there has actually been a determination, I’d be interested to know about it.

    Thank you

    • October 16, 2017 6:31 pm

As we all know, justice is not about truth (more negotiation) and most cases are agreed outside of the court once both parties realise that they could lose a lot of money. Then there is an appeal process that can draw out the issue for many months.

I’ve been trying to find out whether Mann has actually lost, but not been able to, so suspect that it is still with the courts, or settled financially in secrecy.
