BBC Accepts Lord Lawson’s Climate Complaint

January 9, 2018

By Paul Homewood

The BBC have been forced to retract one of their blatantly false claims about climate change, following a complaint by the GWPF:

London, 9 January: The BBC have accepted Lord Lawson’s complaint that they made a serious factual error in claiming that reindeers were in “steep decline” because of climate change.

The alarming claim that reindeer populations across Northern Russia were “in steep decline because of climate change”, was made during the first episode of the recent BBC 2 series: Russia with Simon Reeve.

Writing to the BBC Complaints department, Lord Lawson pointed out that according to a 2016 study, 17 out of 19 sub-populations of Eurasian Reindeer were now either increasing in number, or had a stable population trend.

The BBC have now accepted this evidence, and have published a correction which reads: “This programme suggested that many reindeer populations are in steep decline because of climate change. It would have been more accurate to say that many reindeer populations are threatened by it.”

Indeed it would have been less inaccurate, given that the claim is blatantly false. However, even the claim that they are “threatened” is highly questionable given their growing populations.

The false alarm highlights the BBC’s habitual attempts to exaggerate the consequences of climate change and to ignore scientific evidence that contradicts climate alarmism.

Climate change is always a ‘threat’ at the BBC. You’re supposed to feel guilty about it too, or so they try to insinuate.

Totally lost on Beeboids is that by abolishing the BBC, you “reduce CO2 emissions” from flights, taxis and energy used in broadcasting. The free land & property can be used to house their favourite “refugees”; and every family (at least the honest ones, and the threatened ones) get a tax break. And NOBODY suffers…..absolutely NOBODY……unless you are a Beeboid Nobody.

  2. January 9, 2018 1:48 pm

The BBC seems determined to maintain its reputation of bias. This is a good example of institutional Cognitive Dissonance.
    Well done Lord Lawson.

What really is “in steep decline”, is the number of folk succumbing to the Telly Tax.

The irony is – the decline is due in part to Aunty’s biased reporting about …… Climate Change.

President Trump, during his campaign and since, has been talking about the need for the Federal Government to stop funding NPR (National Public Radio–or Nat. Peoples Radio) and PBS (Public Broadcasting System–or Syndicate–take your pick).

It is nothing more than a bureaucracy of the left holding on to their power to spout and promote left-wing rubbish under the guise of intellectual elitism.

I remember this story. It boiled down to this:

Just in time for Christmas, we have news of a worldwide outbreak of shrinking reindeer caused by global warming/climate change. A websearch of “shrinking reindeer” returns links to hundreds of media reports from everywhere, evidence of the global nature of this event.

That is, until you read past the scary headlines and discover that it is one story repeated endlessly. Once again, the internet serving as the global village rumor mill. We can relax somewhat in that reports from places like Malaysia, India and California do not mention the local reindeer, so they must be OK.

It was also in the first episode of this series that Simon Reeve incorrectly attributed the Batagaika crater to global warming (discussed on Not A Lot of People Know That, 9 Oct 2017). But then Simon Reeve is an ambassador for the WWF.

Yes, he also showed a Soviet era building ,no doubt built by Gulag prisoners, which was slowly collapsing. This was proof that the permafrost was melting, he stated. Meanwhile the surrounding older buildings, no doubt built by somebody who cared, were just fine.

GWPF – Keep hitting the BBC with dis-information challenges and publish extensively. Public will eventually pick up the thread. The British Brainwashing Corporation will eventually buckle – or people will stop paying the licence fee.

TRANSLATION: We were right really, it just hasn’t happened yet.

It seems the BBC find it really hard just to say they were wrong. If the climate changes, specific locations may become less suitable habitats for reindeer, but this is very different from claiming that the species in toto is “threatened by climate change”. Unless of course the definition of climate change is based on the most fanciful worst case scenario of model projections rather than observed data.

A typical slimey non-correction by the BBC. They really are the pits. Because they never admit their mistakes, nor apologise, many people have given up complaining – and given up paying the television tax. The BBC are their own worst enemies – and enemies of the truth, too.

They had NO evidence linking reindeer numbers with ‘climate change’, instead they just asserted and expected to get away with it unchallenged. That’s called propaganda.
What’s the influence of ‘so-called climate change’ on weather up there? Anything discernable, and from there are any such (alleged) changes causing actual reindeer numbers to be impacted in ANY meaningful way? I’ll expect the answer to those (basic) questions is negative.
In short, the BBC lied yet again on ‘climate change’, but this time they’ve been caught out. Well done Lord Lawson, and fwiw I’d go right back into the mix and challenge their submission of ‘threatened’ by ‘climate change’, too. It’s BS and they know it. Make them squeal!
They’re not letting up on their ‘climate change’ propaganda, so the GWPF shouldn’t let up holding the bastards to account.

” . .in steep decline (threatened by it) . . because of climate change?”

It seems obvious that they (and most every other study – and article) are actually implying that these things are caused by, or threatened by, or will be threatened in the future by, man-made climate change, ACC.” Of course, ACC, or CACC, is predicted to be caused by some bit of additional GW, caused by AGHG’s, AGW. And there, they most usually only say, ’caused by global warming,’ but they are implying, AGW.

I propose that the first winnable challenge for the skeptical side of the aisle is to demand that the correct terms are used. If they are talking about, AGW, ACC, or CACC, then they should use the correct scientific terminology. GW and AGW – nor CC and ACC – are not the same thing. For a fact, naturally occurring GW (or global cooling, for that matter) could be expected to result in climate change (or is it, CC causing the GW?). That some bit of additional warming is predicted to result in some additional (or different) CC, should be spelled out.

When someone asks me, if I believe in GW, or in CC, my response is always, “can you pls be specific as to what you are referring to . , are you actually talking about . . ‘

It’s interesting then what happens once they understand that they need to be specific and talk about them separately.

Unfortunately, as this presentation now has been so poorly presented for so long, there are a great number of people who actually believe that all climate change over the past 50-100 (even 200 yrs) has been entirely caused by a bit AGW.

Yes Virginia, there is a PDO and it was dramatically changing the climate long before there was any potential observable human footprint on GT’s

    • January 9, 2018 6:53 pm

Darn . .if mod would close my bolded bit, just after ACC, in the forth line – I’d surely appreciate it You can delete this note then, as well. thx, gary

Thanks Paul – yes, you did. Perfectly.

Now, if we can just get everyone to distinguish between naturally occurring and w/ a human footprint (be there much of one, or not).

When my television died I was quite happy to not replace it. 6 years later I don’t miss TV. Delighted that I am not paying the worthless BBC any money.

    • January 10, 2018 1:17 pm

I rid myself in TV on February 1, 2013. I kept my contract one month beyond expiration in order to watch the Morgantown High School Red & Blue Mohigan Marching Band make their debut in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day. I played in that band in the 1960’s.

I thought that it would take me a month to “get over” TV, but it did not. Really did not miss it. I had quit watching any network programs 30 years prior, never watched CNN and was even getting tired of FoxNews. HGTV and the Food Network were also going down the toilet.

With that gone, I went around the house (where I grew up) and began reading books my late parents had which were involving West Virginia. I did more sewing. My laptop became the TV. During dinner (I live alone, except for an 8-month-old bulls-eye tabby kitten named Hudson) I watch some news events, any speech Trump has given, some British history programs, anything geology or archaeology, whatever.

For me, getting rid of TV was one of the most valuable things I have done.

Yes. If we can all get together and make complaints about programmes then if 100 or more complaints are received the BBC has to report it and give details of their investigation. The slimy lefties had been ignoring the requirements on transparency over complaints for ages. If we can get an idea of the fault with the content, I am sure we can write complaints without us all having to suffer watching the programmes.

Great, reindeers are off the list. Next; polar bears. But they are icons of disaster, so that battle will be harder. Seals are in trouble too, they are dying from not being eaten by polar bears, while penguins are dying bcause they miss polar bears. But never fear; new research expeditions will be launched to sort it all out, and into multi-coloured garbage bins for disaster-recycling.

    • January 10, 2018 1:23 pm

Penguins dying due to missing polar bears would be a cute trick as polar bears are Arctic and penguins are Antarctic (more or less although they can get north, but not into the Northern Hemisphere).

They have pretty much lost the polar one already given the personal attack made on Susan Crockford and the dodgy video of the emaciated bear from a bunch of propagandists that even some of the believers thought was questionable.

Later a completely different prog covered the reason for the reindeer decline in that part of far east Russia that Reeve did the 6-10 minute item in
“The 2016 anthrax outbreak is believed to have come from an old burial site with reindeer that died of the disease more than 70 years ago”
These facts were known well before Reeves prog aired
..and possibly even before he filmed
So it is strange the Reeve segment didn’t mention it.

What they seem to have missed altogether is that in Siberia and in Norway there have been reindeer culls. In Yamal-Nenets, the reindeer population was said to have grown to unsustainable levels, but proposals to cull by 250,000 were reduced to 100,000. A very informative article, covering many angles:

N.B. Sabetta, the location for Yamal LNG, is on the Eastern shore of the peninsula.

    In Norway:

Now, the question is whether wasting disease and anthrax are the same thing, as partly suggested by the Siberian Times article.
