Brexit could wreck green agenda, says UN

May 20, 2018

By Paul Homewood

From the Guardian:

The United Nations has warned the government that Britain’s reputation is at risk over plans that would significantly weaken protections for the environment after Brexit.

In a stern intervention, Erik Solheim, executive director of the UN’s environment programme, called on the environment secretary Michael Gove to honour his promise to deliver a “green Brexit”, ensuring the environment would not suffer from Britain’s EU departure.

IMHO the UN should stop meddling in what are wholly UK affairs.

We should not exchange the hegemony of the EU for that of the UN.

For stern “Intervention” read “Invention” The EU is already using the UKs steady increase in renewables to delay implementing their own…see “Germany building coal fired power stations” et al.

Gove doesn’t need any encouragement from the UN on shackling our economy with useless green taxes. If the UK does manage to get as far as having trade talks with the EU, green taxes will be included for certain. But to get that far the UK has to survive next month’s crisis when it has to agree the new Irish border by the EC meeting on 28-29 June or talks on everything else will be stopped until it is sorted.

Gee, I guess Trump pulling us out a year ago was “just crumbs.” Frankly, I wish to see the UN kicked out of NYC.

Following yet another egregious act by that disgusting body last week, US Ambassador Nikki Haley blasted that august group and walked out.

Congratulations to both Mr. Trump and the Ambassador, the sooner the UN is totally disbanded the better. Two of its members admitted that ACC was only a scare story to bring down Capitalism so it is a global fraud!

That would be the author, Christiana Figueres of Costa Rica’s National Liberation Party. She spilled the beans as reported in a February 2015 in Investor’s Business Daily. As a secretary of a UN committee she wrote the darn thing.

BTW, when Mrs. Clinton took her excuse tour to India earlier this spring, I was interested to hear her tell those women in her audience that Trump did not want women such as them to succeed. I was yelling at the newsfeed: “What about Nikki Haley, Ambassador to the UN?” Nikki’s parents immigrated from India. Prior to her UN gig, Nikki was the Governor of South Carolina. I actually met her at a political rally here along with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (also of Indian descent). I just loved it when the UN was wetting their pants over our moving our embassy to Jerusalem and Nikki told then “we’re taking names.”

Fortunately, what one tiny island does or doesn’t do is hardly going to affect the planet.

Maybe not. But it’s going to affect that tiny island!

This piece of UN posturing or bullying or whatever heading it comes under is one more piece of evidence that the UN is losing the argument and is in danger of losing the plot.

Climate Change has been the best chance yet for the UN to meet its “self-inflicted” destiny of ruling the entire planet and it is slipping from its grasp. Fortunately there are still fools like Gove and Trudeau around (along with a ragbag of enviro-pseudo-scientists and enviro-pseudo-journalists) who can be relied on to keep the show on the road for a while — hopefully until we are all so brainwashed that we will still believe the earth is just a couple of weeks away from disaster even as we emerge from the last of the June frosts and try to get as much wood cut before winter sets in in the third week of September!

Perhaps the UN should adopt a new anthem. The Bacharach/Hilliard “Three Wheels on my Wagon” should fit the bill!

The drive to smash the pillars of the Western World will continue, but will be slowed because even fully-paid up members of the CAGW cult agree with St Augustine:

“Make me virtuous – but not yet.”

In the case of most of these idiots – “Never make me virtuous – I enjoy flying to save the planet”

I recently asked a deep believer, if life on Earth would be better off without humans? Definitely he told me.

I then asked what happens when the Earth comes to an end as the Sun becomes a red giant? (in 4 to 5 billion years) blank look. I then said that one piece I had read stated that by 600million years from now C3 photosynthesis will be inpossible and by 800million no multicellular life will exist. It is likely that by 1 billion years no evidence of there ever having been life on this planet will exist. Life might all disappear long before these timelines if we get a large Gamma Ray burst that sterilises us all first!!!

Of course “Third Rock from the Sun” will go rocking on for a few bill after that but we (that’s those pesky humans) had better workout some way of leaving well before then if LIFE as we know it is to continue.

After a suitable silence and expressions that I was talking BS (I mean, would I?) He left to get a new set of instructions from Green Central.

Hopefully we will do what we vote for – could be less but could be more. We will decide though, not have it imposed upon us by a few people we who think they know best.

That’s the point of Brecit for me. Oh and Remainers, if we vote for more protection, I will accept that, even though I would vote against.

I suspect that translates as “the UN fears that Britain will stop wasting money on useless projects”.
Of course if any one country drops all the green crap it will become much more competitive, and other countries will be forced to follow suit or watch that country get richer and more powerful.

I believe the UK bill for green initiatives is £300bn by 2030 (I stand to be corrected on that).

Too bad they can’t spend it on the NHS/Education/Police/Armed forces etc.

      Y’know, useful stuff.

I thought that Gove was already a paid up green nut case. I read he wants to set up an Environmental quango, presumably to keep in bed with NGO’s who run our Energy policies.

There are already more than enough green quangos at Defra – see this list from 2009:

Animal health, Centre for Environment, Central Science Laboratory, Government decontamination service,Marine and Fisheries Agency,Regulatory Science Agency, Rural Payments Agency, Veterinary Laboratories Agency, Veterinary medicines Directorate,Commission for Rural Communities, Consumer Council for Water,Environment Agency,Food from Britain, Gangmasters Licensing Authority,Joint Nature Conservation Committee, Natural England, and the Sustainable Development Commission.

This is just the socialist EU enlisting the help of their U.N. buddies to make Brexit as uncomfortable as possible for the UK.

Trump has already given the U.N. a bloody nose over Paris, they’re just sniffing out opportunities to make up for it and throw their weight about.

+1 Exactly. Just like China is doing to the rest of the world today. Unfortunately only the ‘donor’ Western industrialized/economically successful countries will make a difference and the shaming and propaganda against them will become more shrill, if that’s possible. What will happen I believe is as time passes and the Apocalypse fails to materialize those countries still saddling their populace with the Green agenda will question why and the truth will come to light.

In typically devious style these green campaigners attempt to confuse by conflating environmentalism with the charade of “tackling climate change”. I wouldn’t trust Michael Gove either as when he announced the policy of phasing out internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040 he made the ludicrous statement that our new fleet of all-electric vehicles could be powered by renewables. That prompted me to do the simple sums which he ought to have done to show that this is infeasible, see

I’ll give Gove credit for backing Brexit but if only he hadn’t stabbed Boris Johnson in the back UK politics could have been in a much better state than the mess it is in now.

I’ve now had a look at the pdf paper referred to. A great piece of work. However, there are several things to remember in that no notice of it will be taken by the Government. 1) Perry and Clarke cannot read, and don’t learn from lessons from other countries, i.e Germany, Australia. They are so full of themselves they can make the green mantra work that they are totally blinded and devoid of actual common sense. 2) The energy department is stuffed full of brainwashed idiots employed in the Miliband era. So nothing will change, unfortunately, until it is too late, then they will run around claiming in wasn’t me.
Fortunately for me I will not be around when everything falls down in this wonderful world they want to create. But to be honest, I cannot see the country being able to generate enough power to charge all the electric cars Gove expects people to use, let alone set up charging points all over the country for millions of vehicles. The Government’s record of implementing new technology and systems is nothing short of appalling. It will be another buggers mess. And what is the Treasury going to do, loosing all that revenue from fuel duty etc? As usual they haven’t thought things through before going off half cock, which is typical of our current Ministerial and Government levels of intelligence. No, I think this is all just Ministerial grandstanding to show off for the NGO’s benefit!

Keith, Thanks for your commiserations and support. You may be interested in my recent effort directed at the political minnow Ruth Davidson as a convenient proxy for the wider climate alarmist establishment. It illustrates the shockingly obvious serious flaws in UN IPCC climate science and the climate change reality which is staring these politicians in the face if they would only look that, despite all the political hysteria and their reams of policy papers, we have never experienced any discernible man-made global warming and that as the climate is overwhelmingly driven by natural cyclical forces, global cooling is much more likely than global warming over the next 30 years., see

No local effect: the erroneous Butterfly Effect in operation. Your environment determinrs the conditions of my environment.

And environment is not just physical. It can be philosphical, legal, social, culural and historical. Causitive correlations are intrinsic in all directions. The universe is a single organism.

Virtue-seeking, sensitive, holistic activists champion this. And it all leads to world governance as someone has to tell others what can and cannot be done.

What the UN means is that they are worried that having escaped the tentacles of the EU (hopefully) and the intended absorption of that bloc into UN global bureaucratic governance, the UK might resist direct imposition by other means (like ‘climate change’) of a not democratically elected unaccountable not dismissable socialist global tyranny.

I’ve maintained for a long time that the UN is the biggest threat to self determination by nations. The EU and UK both take their lead from an unelected UN. Whatever else you think about the EU there is/was minimal representation in a parliament. There is no such representation at the UN yet our politicians blindly follow their edicts. The IPCC is not an EU created organisation. It’s all very well sticking two fingers up at the EU whilst ignoring the body that is actually trying to become the world government.

The EU and the UN are like most Politically controlled bodies, are controlled by people who have never run a Business or anything which is useful to society that involves using their own money!!
