Disgraced Gummer’s Dodgy Dealings With Drax

February 21, 2019

By Paul Homewood

Guido uncovers more dodgy dealings from the disgraced Gummer:

The formal inquiry into Lord Deben continues over the £600,000 in payments his family-run ‘Sustainability Consultancy’ Sancroft International received from taxpayer-subsidised ‘Green’ corporations – in what appears to be a flagrant conflict of interests with his role as Climate Change Committee chair. Now, confidential documents seen by Guido appear to show that on the very same day as Deben was arguing in Parliament in favour of expensive renewable energy subsidies, his firm was meeting with cash-guzzling, wood-pellet-burning, biomass generator Drax Group in a secret meeting that resulted in a £15,500 payment for Sancroft. Not bad for a day’s work…

The debate on 30 November 2017 was on an amendment to the Renewables Obligation Order, the largest and most expensive scheme to subsidise supposedly ‘low-carbon’ technologies – like burning wood pellets. Drax are the biggest recipients of Renewable Obligation support in the country, receiving a whopping £481m from the taxpayer in 2017…

Combined with money from other schemes this took their total level of public support to a staggering £729m in 2017 – all for burning dirty woodchips instead of coal. Somehow they still managed to make a loss before tax of £183m that year…

Deben attempted to play down the impact that these subsidies were having on people’s energy bills while arguing forcefully that Britain’s manufacturing businesses should not be “let off the hook” for the costs of decarbonisation. Of course as these costs rise, so do the subsidies that go to Drax. Yet Deben made no disclosure of his relationship with Drax. In fact Guido has found at least 12 instances of him speaking in Parliament in favour of measures which benefit his private ‘Green’ clients without declaring his Sancroft interests…

Deben’s lawyers claim that the Climate Change Committee gave Sancroft the go ahead on this project. How they ever thought it was appropriate for the Chairman of their supposedly independent committee to be receiving payments from the biggest subsidy beneficiary of them of all is extraordinary…

It seems the greens are doubling down with today’s announcement that gas fired boilers and hobs will be banned in new homes from 2025. There we are, sitting atop a world class shale gas resource that these people are seeking to replace with expensive forms of energy, and there they are, seeking to send the country back to the Stone Age. Still, it might solve the immigration problem.

I would say that Gummer is a typical Westminster swamp trougher.

This is surely a matter for the fraud squad. Drax must have known that Gummer was behind sancroft, and I would have thought that the police should be investigating whether or not such a payment constituted a bribe. As such I would hope that this turns out to be the case and that both Gummer and the personnel at Drax who were involved all go to jail.

But the mere fact that we have to pay the “Subsidys” on top of the cost of the energy makes it a bribe to the renewables. That in itself makes it illegal!

Who would want to buy a heat pump when they keep putting up electricity prices. I wouldn’t be surprised if VAT was charged on heat pumps as well.

For that matter, who would want to buy a new house with a heat pump instead of a gas boiler. This could lead to builders struggling to sell new homes, while older homes became more sought after.

They have forced new off grid homes to use either wood chips or a GSHP now I believe. Once they have finished the house and eff’d off I would be on to Calor straight away.

Lord Debens CCC suggestion of a ban on the use of grid provided natural gas in new homes from 2025 is another example of how these greens want to make our quality of life significantly worse (or even kill us all off from cold).

My last house (admittedly 18 years ago) was a modern new build with no gas. It used electric storage heaters that stored energy overnight on economy 7 and then you could turn them on next day to release the heat. This sounded great on paper but in reality the heaters only managed to give out decent heat for a few hours before they ran out of stored energy. The house was like a fridge in winter. The whole system failed entirely when we had power cuts and of course power outages most often occur during winter months when the winds are blowing or ice/snow damages power lines etc. The all electric oven/hob was useless too. In the end I paid for gas connection and fitted a gas hob as I cook a lot and those damned halogen hobs were virtually uncontrollable.

I got so fed up with that modern house that I bought an 1850’s house with solid fuel heating. It is beautifully warm and toasty in even the coldest of weather, the household energy cost is vastly reduced and I’m not reliant on grid energy at all so am immune to power cuts.

I can only imagine that people will soon find out how dire electric heating is during a cold winter and will soon be paying for gas to be piped in. Anybody that enjoys cooking will also be putting gas hobs in too. Not much they can do to stop it because you can just buy bottle gas and run the cooker off that, no need for mains gas just for the cooker. I imagine there’ll be a nice hike in sales for those mobile gas heaters too…and probably a corresponding hike in damp related illness, house fires and CO poisoning…..

Don’t you think they will ban bottled gas as well?

      • February 22, 2019 5:40 pm

They may well try but then that also takes away peoples choice to have BBQ’s, heat their caravans, boats etc. The politicians who vote to ban that will suffer the wrath of an awful lot of people! As they are skating on thin ice as it is with the Brexit betrayal/saga I rather suspect the Tories may very busy trying to win voters back at the next election, not alienating even more! 😉

With you on that. How long before they ban woodburners like in the US?

Speaking as a person that has voted both Conservative and Labour I really lose faith in the Political classes when things like this appear. I remember Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall doing a series of programmes trying to draw attention to the dangers of Sugar in food and was generating some traction on this matter because of the Diabetes epidemic but suspiciously he could never get a face to face with the Health Minister. Out of frustration he went to the Conservative conference to do an ambush interview but was amazed to find that the Conference that year was sponsored by, yes you may have guessed -Tate and Lyle. As he said you couldn’t make it up.

Disgraceful. The latest CCC recommendation on gas amounts to a depopulation agenda. I’m beggining to believe the conspiracy theories

    • February 22, 2019 7:00 pm

next they’ll be putting a male fertility reducing drug into our bread to cut population growth and claim that it is actually a health benefit to 0.001% of the population………oh wait…. 😉

Yes, yes I know the official studies show that putting folic acid into our bread has no ill effect but then I’ve also read some research from the States that show that it may reduce male fertility. You also have to question why we need to give 100% of the population, including all the men, a growth hormone that is only there to benefit pregnant women who eat a poor diet (0.001% of pop.). As the BBC have been heavily pushing the idea that it is such a great idea then I’m tempted to believe the exact opposite 😉

No point in UK decarbonising, so repeal Climate Change Acts and disband Deben Ctee, thus saving money for useful purposes.Negligible greenhouse gases, 1.3% of global total CO2.

J.S.Gummer Deben should be prosecuted for corruption and, by a journalistic investigation,
all other such disgraceful miscreants put on trial and the guilty punished.

(Good old Pres. Trump is again showing the way, by setting up a US ctee to debunk the climate scam.!)

l would say that it is fraud on a global scale, but not in the USA, China or India so our emmissions are paltry by comparison…..And it will not change the climate one iota!

Lord Deben’s job as Climate Change Minister was of course held previously by Chris Huhne
the Minister who resigned after he received an eight month prison sentence for lying to the police. He was also found to be falsifying his expenses in the in the MPs parliamentary expenses scandal and was forced to pay back over £5,000 for claiming expenses against groceries and painting his home.. After he was released from prison he was immediately given a job by the American wood pellet company Zilkha Biomass Energy as their European Manager with responsibilities for growing the business in Europe. One just wonders whether Zilkha have ever paid any ‘Fees’ into Sancroft International, and if so, for what purpose. I wonder whether Chris Hurhne might clarify the situation on this point?
