Making Comments
February 23, 2019

One reader mentioned to me that he now has to type in his details every time he comments, rather than them appear automatically.
Strangely I have also had the same problem with other sites, such as WUWT and Real Science.
Has anybody else had this problem? I’m not aware of any changes at WordPress, so it may just be a browser issue.

I don’t seem to have this problem at the moment, although I may have had in the past and the problem has gone away.
I put it down to a problem with my set up.
I also had a recent problem with some comments being classified as “spam”, but that problem seems to have gone away too.
On Firefox.
Paul,
It is all rather annoying, I sometimes post only to be told that, ‘I haven’t filled in the required fields’ or summat, always before, my details ’email and name’ were already provided on this site, the reasons why not are very unclear to me.
Alas unless and, as I alluded to before, things on the interweb are a changing all thanks to the rampant paranoia of the EU and their lackey’s in HMG and especially their aversions, to not liking contrary opinion one iotaand in purposeful endeavour to knock off all ‘anti’ comments dead.
see it, ref the Beijing censorious bots MO, they don’t like it up ’em, the wounds and memories of the 2009 dopenhagen gabfest ‘climate conference’ the vehicle transporting its attempts to install the UN-EU arbitrated lust for the NWO and which are still bleeding: fresh in their memory banks and all thanks to a very determined ‘virtual’ small bunch of truth sayers and the most timely ‘climategate’ email release.
In actual fact, I see that today (all change again), I cannot even post without filling in my ‘details’.
You are right to remember the climategate email revealers whose timely action not only kept scepticism alive but envigourated all of us who were then shining a light on the rife malfeasance of so called academia and climate science.
This has appeared as a problem at some questions about climate at ResearchGate. Some skeptical comments have been taken down. Censorship?
Yes…. This is a pain in the neck. Can it be fixed?
I note that when I comment under my nom de plume as of now……….no problem. But commenting as myself…… grrrr!
WordPress wants to log me in using a wordpress account I dont have, I registered with a Google+ profile, so I have to log out and log in again even though It has logged me in with gmail.
I have the same problem. I dumped WordPress about six months ago for several reasons. Its attempts to automatically log me in here using my WordPress account name were the last straw.
Ever since it has refused to allow me to use my “normal” email to log in here and I’ve had to use a gmail one. Both WUWT and Notrickszone are also requiring logins each visit.
I’ll try using Firefox on a Windows machine instead of the iPad and see if it makes a difference but I have a suspicion it may be something to do with increased security demands. Maybe not?
Mike: Yes, I stopped using the email associated with WordPress because it demands I use WordPress to comment.
I do have to fill in information everytime I comment, as I do at WUWT.
I’m using Safari on a Mac. I’ll try it again with Chrome and maybe Windows 10 to see if there is a difference.
Yes, but I only have to enter the first chr. on my PC. On my phone I just have to touch the box to get a prompt.
Should have said, I’m on Opera on the PC and Android on the phone.
Also Opera and no problems.
Might be related to cookie settings?
I had at one time my details come up as soon as I entered the comments box but then some little time ago that stopped. I now have to put in my details every time, even when I am on the same comments page.
Yes. Same occurs for me. Now have to enter details every comment but no real problem, as i have them saved so they come up with one button press.
Not here, but often at WUWT. On my mobile, I’m using Chrome (unfortunally, but alternative’s are not showing a number of web sites properly. Using FireFox Dev. on PC.) and it ‘forgets’ far to easily. One thing is when I check several email links to WP blog posts and load them into new tabs without reading. Later when I have time to read, the tab with the WUWT is always gone.
I never have any problems with your site.
No problems here, only at WUWT.
Fine here, automatically showing WordPress ID.
At WUWT on the other hand have to enter every time now – PITA.
Not a problem with me, Paul. My browser is Opera.
Seems to work OK for me.
I have not been able to ‘Like’ or comment for some time (not that I comment much), but I just I logged out and back in to my WordPress account and it works now.
And me!!
Always have to enter details on WUWT (since Anthony changed to a new server) and also here for the last year (it seems). Strangely, WUWT asks for name first then email; it’s the other way round here.
On Chrome.
All that has to do with your browser settings, cache, history etc.
I rarely clear history, cookies or cache, yet I have to fill in every time. Seems odd so many people ALL have the wrong settings and ALL at the same time.
Now I end up in moderation. Fascinating…..
It may depend on the number of devices you’ve used for commenting. Some services seem to have a limit of two simultaneous devices. If you try and comment from a third (or just a new device), I’ll be asked to log in prior to submitting the comment.
I have a desktop connected to nothing.
“…connected to nothing…”
That could be your problem right there.
Same for me when I use an IPad, but not on my PC.
hmm, such mixed but interesting answers, I am not IT savvy enough (or too lazy) – to work it out.
Your comments panel at the top will not open to accept comments as requested
I’m having this issue (for a month or so now) – using Safari browser on my iMac.
A pain 0n the a**e!
Let’s be consistent if anybody is going to see a trend.
Platform, browser. Then explanation(s).
A cursory reading seems to implicate Apple products. But I could be WAY off base.
But I’m just a lazy (ret) pilot.
Have no issues either now or in the past. Use Firefox as my browser on only device I employ for commenting.
Have changed email recently and am now offered both old and new when I click on that box. And with ‘name’ am offered choice of my regular moniker or a nom-de-plume I sometimes use on other non-climate sites.
Not a problem here using Edge. Just click the name box up comes my handle and e-mail and double click an it fills it in.
My comments are being devoured by something. For now, I give up. Maybe security holds them an hour or two.
I think that’s too many comments too quickly, Sheri
Once a month it seems this happens to me on some sites ( aged cookies ? ) Using Opera on Win TEN. Big upgrade fromXP last autumn – BUT now beginning to wonder if I’m being led along despite my earlier protestations about upgrading. and YES that d*** EU cookie thing – almost EVERY site visit dims or locks until I agree.
And then recently the Email links t this and some other sites no longer work. AND Google won’t let me watch / see Steve Gofddard’s Twitter stuff on “Climate realists”.
I use EDGE.
Posting here goes very well. I’m on WordPress.
Other sites do provide frustrating days.
Just now, I see I will have to enter the details (I’ll copy and paste from a handy word document). Did not need to do so — a click in the box and all auto-loaded.
For a couple of years I commented (not often) at the Energy Matters site. Last year I started getting an error message. Never figured that one out. I continued reading, but not commenting. Now Roger Andrews has died. Don’t know what Euan Mearns will do now.
In general: I might do, say, 20 comments over 2 weeks on several different sites with no issues. Then I have to re-enter the name and e-mail stuff again. Seems random, but could be a timing or number thing. I never worry abut how quickly things appear. I just move on and check back.
& note: Thanks Paul — great site.
I stay logged-in to WordPress, but find different WP sites behave differently.
Pleasantly, NaLoPKT *always* recognises I’m logged-in, so I get email notifications, can ‘Like’ & post comments straightfotwardly.
As others have commented, recently the WUWT page insists on filling in every field. It’s not even possible to auto- ‘Like’.
A 3rd WP site I visit regularly seems to think I’m not logged-in to WP; however, clicking in its comment-box offers amongst other things the WP Icon to log-in. Simply clicking it logs me in, despite already being logged-in.
Weird.
At 5:41 pm, I got —
Please Note: Your comment is awaiting moderation.
No problem here
On a couple of occasions yes, and now this comment.
I sign in every time using my commenting email and user name. I avoid automatic log-ins and always wipe cookies after every session – call me paranoid if you like. I am considering a VPN setup to avoid tracking. I am steadily cutting Google from my browsing and email use – not quite there yet as you can see.
I have stopped using my own name almost everywhere, it has cost me a couple of “what I thought were sensible ” friends already.
Reports of censorship of realist views on Climate topics and anything “conservative” in nature. Even some leftish stuff gets cut for not being far left enough. The attacks on democracy and free speech are increasing, especially in the States.
Yes. Using Chromebook today. 24 February 9:15 am NZ time and date.
Yes I have the same problem on most WordPress sites including WUWT, realclimatescience·com and also on notrickszone·com, principia-scientific·org, joannenova·com·au but oddly I do NOT have this problem on chiefio·wordpress·com, tallbloke·wordpress·com, or this site
BTW I use Linux and the browsers I use are based on the earlier version of Firefox (pre Rust Monzilla) or de-googled chromium. I have the choice of Otter, Dillo, Falkon, SeaMonkey, exo, NetSurf, Brave, and Tor and many others.
Of these I believe Brave (https://brave.com) is probably the best browser that covers nearly all platforms (Windows, Apple, and Linux).
If I post on a Thread, my name & address appear to be remembered for subsequent posts but not on other Threads until I have made a first comment there. Am using Mozilla Firefox as a browser.
My email address and name (in that order) have just auto filled.
(I’m probably logged into WordPress – I say’probably’ because I’ve encountered flaky behaviour with WP before.)
I’m using Brave on a Win10 notebook.
None of my comments appear en clair. Some appear to me as awaiting moderation (interestingly on my tablet as well as my laptop, regardless which I used to submit), and others disappear completely from view until rescue by moderation. I only need to enter one character in the email/name fields to get a prompt if they are blank. Once I have commented on a thread, they remain available automatically if I enter another comment or reply.
Recently I was informed that Climate Change threatens the worlds rice crops with rising seas…any truth to this?
“…rising seas…”
I have not noticed anybody growing rice on my local beaches!
From what I know of the location of rice paddy fields, I doubt that much rice producing land is disappearing beneath the waves. The statistics I have seen indicate that the total area of the world being cultivated for rice is 161.1 million square hectares, and this is increasing very gradually.
I don’t think so, and anyway the Actual planet we live on is about to get a big surprise from the Sun as it is going into a Super-Grand Solar Minimum as we also reach a point in our orbit where we will be tilted more than at present. We will get more extremes of heat and cold in first one, then the other hemisphere and for a long time we will need to be able to survive in very cold conditions.
Change in cookie handling post GDPR? I now have to state my cookie preferences again on various sites, every time I visit them. A big hand to the EU, and their relentless drive to regulate everything out of existence. Maybe they could start with themselves?
I log into WordPress, no problems. I advise anyone using the Internet to delete all cookies and data stored on your browser regularly, I use mainly Firefox with some blocks for ads etc. If you are on Mac or Windows OS use a good anti virus, it’s worth paying for Kaspersky. I use Linux OS which is less vulnerable but still have an anti virus installed. If you are on Linux, don’t log into your root, always set a second profile without access privileges.
