BBC’s Love In With Gina McCarthy

February 28, 2019

There is a programme on the BBC News Channel called Beyond 100 Days, which is hosted by Katty Kay in Washington and Christian Fraser in London.

The day before yesterday they interviewed Obama’s ex-EPA chief, Gina McCarthy, at about 48 mins in. I say “interview”, but it was really a love-in, but more on that later.

That whole section of the programme perfectly sums up everything which is wrong about the BBC’s coverage of climate change.

The interview was really about Trump’s appointment of renowned physicist, William Happer, to head up a new Climate Change Committee. Now, you might have thought that the BBC would want to interview Happer, to get his side of the story. But oh no, he’s a denier isn’t he, can’t have him on!

Instead they mention that he compared the media’s treatment of CO2, to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany. This comment by Fraser was surely intended to equate Happer’s climate scepticism with holocaust denial. In fact, Happer had simply wanted to highlight how much CO2 is demonised nowadays.

Fraser then continues:

And yet it seems so obvious to all of us that the climate is changing, and in some places is becoming more erratic.

Right now the UK is in a winter heatwave. Hard to think that just a year ago, the country was bracing for the Beast from the East.

Then Katty Kay adds:

Indeed, is it too simplistic to say it’s a direct result of climate change, but it is getting harder and harder to ignore the mounting evidence from scientists and weather watchers worldwide.

There is so much wrong in just these three sentences.

For a start, it is nonsensical to suggest we can all see the climate changing, as the first line implies. Whatever warming either the UK or the world as a whole has experienced in the last century is so tiny on a year to year basis as to be unnoticeable, if we did not have official temperature records.

The implication, of course, is that people look at weather events, and incorrectly interpret them as climate, something the BBC continually encourages.

Then we have the comment about “more erratic”. Well, I dare say, some places are experiencing more erratic weather, just as other places did in the past. There is no evidence, however, that this phenomenon is on the rise, or caused by global warming.

The next line about the winter heatwave is, of course, designed to reinforce this message. But the facts show that there is nothing unusual at all about year-to-year variations of this sort.

The chart below shows monthly mean temperatures for February, according to CET.

As can be seen, big year-to-year swings are common.

For instance, February 1947 is the coldest February in the whole record going back to 1659, with a temperature of minus 1.9C. Two years earlier, February 1945 averaged 7.1C, making it the 4th warmest at the time.

Heaven knows where Kay gets her “mounting evidence” from, because there is none to prove that weather is getting more erratic or extreme. Even the IPCC accept this.

Her commentary is purely planting her own bias on listeners.

We then move on to the interview with a rather smug looking Gina McCarthy, who starts out by condemning Happer’s appointment as a political ploy. (She of course does not have a political bone in her body!)

She is then allowed to get away without any challenge with some highly dubious, generalised statements, such as:

Migration and insecurity happens when you start running out of food and water [as an example of the effects of climate change].

I know climate change threatens me, I know it threatens the health of my family, I know it threatens our troops, I know it threatens the military.

She is even egged on by the interviewers, with Fraser actually labelling the US as the world’s biggest polluter. [FACT – US CO2 emissions in 2017 were 5087 MtCO2, while China’s were 9232 MtCO2]

None of this patently absurd tosh was challenged by the interviewers.

But what on earth were the BBC thinking, when they decided not to interview William Happer himself or one of Trump’s team.

The last time I checked, the BBC still had a duty to ensure controversial subjects are treated with due impartiality. Moreover the BBC Agreement forbids our output from expressing the opinion of the BBC on current affairs or matters of public policy.

Not for the first time, they have brazenly ignored their statutory duty.

I suspect that Happer would have declined the invitation to appear on the BBC, given how easy it is to distort interviews to push an agenda.

The internet has saved us from 1984-style telescreens on every wall, hence recent attempts to control it by UK MPs and others, and ongoing smears against anyone who dares to question the Party Line.

“it is nonsensical to suggest we can all see the climate changing”

confirmation bias might make that possible.

Nicky Campbell on Radio 5 stated that BBC policy no longer allowed climate change “deniers” a voice.

That program has exactly the same attittude towards President Trump, Brexit and the EU.
It is all sneering inuendos, half truths, repeating anti Trump, Anti Brexit comments and propoganda and mostly only interviewing the Activists.
    The BBC is a disgrace.

      Re. all of the above

So why does the British public continue to pay for this relentless stream of ideological guano?

It seems that on almost every site I’ve looked at recently there are a growing number of people who are no longer willing to pay the licence fee. I really hope this is starting to hit the BBC where it hurts.

Sara, have watched the TR #PanoDrama documentary video on YouTube ?
.. that’s what got him banned from Facebook within 24 hours of its release,
… despite what other unevidenced claims the media made.

      • February 28, 2019 5:36 pm

Because you need it to watch “Live TV” or BBC I player and because most of us know it for what it is.
It is the poor fools that believe I feel sorry for, some are in a state of almost panic over poor Polar Bears, No Ice, Drowning in Rising Seas etc.
I have also actually seen it as the declared reason of at least 1 suicide and 3 Murder/Suicides, they just couldn’t face their or their children’s future.

@ Ian – “So why does the British public continue to pay for this relentless stream of ideological guano”

It seems many have stopped –

“ALMOST 3.5million Brits have cancelled their TV licence fee in the last four years — a rate of almost one million a year. ” 20, 2017 –

However, I also read recently that some 43% of the public get their daily news from the Beeb – really sitting ducks for propaganda ….. as per Herr Goebbels.

“mounting evidence” ” a warming planet” “overwhelming evidence” “scientists say” “scientists believe” “unequivocal” “the world’s leading scientists”, “ocean acidification”, “CO2 pollution”, these and many, many more are part of the litany of the cult of global warming.

They are implanted by the priesthood and their media acolytes and repeated ad nauseum until they become part of everyday conversation. By so doing, the acceptance of global warming is internalised and then re-inforced by adding the anthropogenic component.

Gina McCarthy should have a look at some US climate history, as recorded by a couple of earlier US Presidents.

“In Virginia, George Washington noted the severity of the cold during February 1788 (Washington 1788), and Europe in 1788/89 was also bitterly cold (e.g., Lamb 1977, 1985; Lindgren et al. 1985).”

“Thomas Jefferson, American minister to France at the time, described the conditions there as “a winter of such severe cold, as was without example in the memory of man, or in the written records of history” (Koch and Peden 1944, p. 91; Neumann and Dettwiller 1990)

I prefer it a little warmer.

Here’s the skinny on little Gina. She is from Massachusetts (hence the attitude of elitism). She graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1976, as a Bachelor of Arts in “Social Anthropology”. She received a Master of Science in “Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy” in 1981 from Tufts University.

Having been around the block with these “environmental” programs at so-called schools of higher learning, let me give my observations beginning in the 1970’s.

I can guarantee that the MS from Tufts contained little science or content, but was rather along the lines of “community organizer” training to block things they did not like. And what they do not like is western civilization.

As to Gina—good riddance to bad rubbish.

Stewgreen, yes I watched it all and I caught the end of last night’s BBC2 documentary “Satanic Verses 30 years on”. Now starting to watch the backlash from that. We live in interesting times!

    • February 28, 2019 6:48 pm

Ironic that on the same day the Satanic Verses doco was on BBC2, Amazon banned one of TR’s book that has been out for years.
…An annotated version of the Koran.

I guess the BBC will lead public book burnings next year. I think we’ve seen this pattern of behaviour before in history!

  7. March 1, 2019 12:18 pm

So glad that Gina is “ex-EPA”. She finally did come to West Virginia once to hear about the effects Obama’s War on Coal was having. In her mind, she had to get a visa and all her vaccinations before venturing into the land of the untouchables.

These arrogant elitist, leftists are nauseating and she was a poster child.

It has been such a refreshing change to have President Trump and his cabinet members come to West Virginia. They want to work on problems instead of looking down their noses at us.

We are where we are because on certain issues statutory obligation is not enforced (while extra-legal measures are taken against anyone slightly to the right of the Elite’s position). Britain is a successful country, trusted around the world because of the nature and fairness of our laws. Not to enforce those laws, for Leftist political advantage, means we will fall ever further from grace. Trump, the Brexit vote are all a (possibly unconscious) reaction by ordinary people to exactly this kind of behaviour across the world.
