Coal Power Still On The Rise In India

May 18, 2019

By Paul Homewood

While western politicians are declaring climate emergencies, India has continued to expand its coal power.

During the financial year just ended, thermal generation increased by 3.37%, accounting for most of the increase in total generation:

Data for renewable energy always takes an extra month to collate, but for the 11 months to Feb 19, renewable generation was up by 23 TWh from 2017/18, and accounted for 9% of total generation, much lower than in the UK.

By contrast, thermal accounts for 90%.

In short, thermal generation has increased by 35 TWh, compared to 23 TWh from renewables.

This follows a similar pattern to China, where the expansion of renewable capacity is not enough to satisfy the increase in overall demand.

Coal and lignite combined accounted for 1022 TWh last year, a year-on-year rise of 3.6%, and equates to 95% of total thermal output.

New thermal capacity added during the year amounted to 5782 MW, down on the year before, but still substantial. This represents 2.5% of current thermal capacity, most of which is coal.

They deserve a visit and a row from Greta Thunberg and Al Gore, having travelled on foot and swum to India: they would soon change their minds and energy policies!

A dolphin and a whale, eh? Threatened species both, no doubt.

It’s good to know that there are some countries not swallowing the scam.

Does this not show the idiocy of our “Climate Emergency” clearly?

“Do you have a climate emergency? Then ring 666 and ask for Deben, Al, Mann or Nye (DAMoN) and we’ll get you decarbonised as soon – sorry – as quickly – as possible!”

The Times of India had a cracking article recently on the exaggerations, hysteria and corruption of climate science with due acknowledgement to the vagaries of historical natural climate variation. I’m sure The Guardian will be syndicating it soon! Whilst the West castrates itself with climate guilt the Indians are slowly dragging their huge population out of poverty by supporting cheap and reliable energy. And who, in their right mind, could blame them?

Have you got a link to that article Mack?

It was an article entitled ‘Climate Science violates the basic precepts of science’ by Sanjeev Sabhlok. It originally appeared in the Times of India earlier this month. It’s also available on the GWPF and Climate Depot web sites.
