Goldsmiths Ban Beef

August 13, 2019

We discussed the anti-meat food stasi last week. It has not taken Goldsmiths University long to get in on the act!

From Business Green:

Goldsmiths University in London has announced plans to ban the sale of all beef at its campus canteens from the start of the upcoming school year, as part of a "major drive" to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2025.

The university also said it will impose a 10p levy on bottled water and single-use plastic cups at the university, install more solar panels across the campus, and switch to a 100 per cent clean energy supplier "as soon as practicable".

In addition it plans to make modules on climate and ecology mandatory for first-year students and launch a programme to rewild unused land on campus. Goldsmiths also confirmed that from December 1 its £2.5m endowment fund will no longer hold investments in companies which derive more than 10 per cent of their revenues from the extraction of fossil fuels.

The changes have been backed by new College warden Professor Frances Corner, who succeeded Patrick Loughrey at the end of May and is the first woman to hold the role.

Forget about freedom of choice. Note as well the mandatory indoctrination course on climate change.

“Professor” Frances Corner obviously knows all about climate change, given her background as a “fashion activist” (whatever that is).

FOOTNOTE

Ms Corner may think beefburgers are bad for the planet, but she evidently thinks flying is OK.

Last November she popped over to Beijing for a fashion exhibition:

Other trips in recent years include Seoul and Milan.

Now who does that remind you of?

Its worth reading the comments in the telegraph, about 400 so far (9am tuesday 13th) 398 saying what an idiot….does she realise that leather will have to go as well and milk.

To be replaced with……Let me think…….I Know!

      Fossil fuel derived plastic!

There’s always sackcloth of course. Not sure the students will be happy with that though. Unless it’s designer sackcloth of course, straight from Milan.

Yet another climate and scientific illiterate virtue signaller who hasn’t the critical thinking ability to turn up here or at WUWT and simply ask some questions.

Charles Moore contributed a very measured piece to last Saturday’s DT entitled ‘In exhorting us not to eat meat, green preachers place morality over reason
Food-guilt is becoming the eco-zealots’ weapon of choice in their crusade to purify the West of pleasure’ – many Telegraph readers will have welcomed this article together with some further insights from other writers which are following on. Hooray! Problem is all of us – Charles Moore, Telegraph readers any journalist attempting to counterbalance the green tide that threatens to overwhelm us are dismissed as being right wing and therefore any knowledge and opinions displayed can simply be dismissed.

I read this this morning and was outraged by it on many levels. How can one stupid woman exercise such a draconian measure with no facts to warrant it?
In the same issue of the Telegraph a correspondent has written an amusing letter on the same subject:
“If the objection to eating meat is based on the greenhouse gases produced by cattle, I fail to see how a diet of pulses for us is going to help, given the well-known effects of eating too many beans”.
This would seem to make more sense than Ms Corner!

I listened to the interview of the Student Union Pres on Today this morning. This was supposed to be someone who has risen like the cream of the crop to study in academe yet he was convinced that the world was going to ‘burn’ in the next 12 years.
He was so convinced of this that he said the target for zero-carbon should be 2030, not 2050. When asked if he would be in favour of Goldsmiths removing gas CH and replacing it with expensive heat pumps etc, and then spending loads on insulation – to the extent that the costs were passed on to student fees. His answer was, ‘of course not. We want education to be free’. Typical snowflake. Full of virtue, unable to form any logical argument against the scare and not willing to pay the price for his beliefs.

        “…common-sense…”

“Common sense is genius in homespun.”

A N Whitehead, Mathematician and Philosopher.

A bit of common sense is to keep an eye on this:

The recent, weak, El Nino is finishing. Most predict an indefinite period of ENSO Neutral will take over.

However, I have a suspicion (no more) that a La Nina may happen soon – based on the fact that the last period of persistent La Nina activity was a decade ago, at a similar period in the Sun’s magnetic activity.

Dave… in order for La-Nina to form, the ENSO would have to pass through the neutral “El-Nada” period to reach the minus 0.5°C threshold…and stay there. Not likely in the next few months. Previous La-Ninas were well on their way by now.

        August 13, 2019 4:40 pm

“How does that compare to last year?”

The Index was neutral then, as the system transited from a weak La Nina to what became a weak El Nino.

“…in order for La Nina to form…”

Most of the models do predict Neutral for the next few months. But none of them allow for a direct solar effect. I think they may be wrong in this.

The index for the area of the ocean known as Nino3 has dropped 1.4 C in two months…

It is just something to watch.

It’s a thoughtful look at their arrogant ignorance, and how their “solutions” to imaginary “problems” are antithetical to their stated goals, and are invariably harmful.
