Polish Guards Seize Rainbow Warrior

Polish border guards boarded Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior vessel Monday and arrested the captain and one of the activists for impeding a coal ship from unloading at the Gdansk port.
On its website, Greenpeace said that its activists had sought to prevent a shipment of coal imported from Mozambique from being unloaded in Poland as part of a “climate emergency protest.”
Earlier, activists had vandalized the coal vessel with graffiti, painting “Poland Beyond Coal 2030” on the side of the ship’s hull.
Greenpeace Poland Program Director Paweł Szypulski justified the group’s actions by saying they were responding to an emergency.
“This is a climate emergency and we need to take action now,” Szypulski said. “This is our moment of truth and there is no turning back. We are taking action along with the millions of other people around the world demanding an end to fossil fuels. We have no time to waste.”
In a strange coincidence, at least one European nation has recently had to turn to Poland with its substantial coal reserves for back-up energy in time of need.
In late 2016, Germany found itself in dire need of energy after embarking on an ambitious green energy program and was obliged to turn to Poland for assistance.
Having wagered on renewables such as wind and solar energy as part of its ill-fated Energiewende, the country’s program for energy transition, Germany found itself in an embarrassing situation when the wind failed to blow for several days and a thick fog descended upon many parts of the country.
As the output from renewables fell to just 4 percent of total demand, Germany had to turn to Poland, with its black coal-fired electricity plants, in order to meet its energy needs and emerge from its self-induced energy crisis.
Poland’s impressive track record notwithstanding, Greenpeace has doggedly tried to rein in the recalcitrant central European nation.
“Poland must abandon burning coal by 2030,” Mr. Szypulski proclaimed Monday, in reference to the target date for the phasing out of coal use in the European Union (EU).
Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) government has resisted the EU’s strong-arm tactics, saying it will embark on a gradual reduction in dependence on coal for electricity production, from around 80 percent today to 60 percent in 2030.
Along with Hungary, Poland has also rejected a call by the European Union for zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, citing its negative effect on the economy.
Greenpeace has reiterated its total commitment to phasing out fossil fuels, regardless of its effect on the economy or the well-being of citizens.
“To keep global warming to 1.5°C and prevent a climate catastrophe, Greenpeace is calling on the EU to achieve total decarbonisation by 2040 and to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030,” the group said on its website.
Let’s hope that the Poles get tough with the offenders. It would be nice if our government took a leaf out of their book as well.
It is time to teach Greenpeace and the rest of the eco-cretins that they don’t have the right to go around telling everybody else what to do.

My world-weary cynicism (!) is rapidly being replaced by anger, since these guys know what they are doing and saying is rubbish and yet it seems they are given a free pass to preach their nonsense and demand that we treat it as gospel truth.
The Green Movement is home to the planet’s largest agglomeration of mendacious hypocrites and one day, if there is any justice, they will get their comeuppance. The only thought that keeps me half-sane!

I read somewhere recently that people are becoming a lot more choosy when it comes to donating to charities. The larger ones are starting to lose out to smaller local ones.
Rightly so. The 3 largest UK charities pay their CEOs more than $430,000pa. I will not support a charity that pays anyone more than £90,000. So that means every UN ‘charity’ is off limits.
Greenpeace is funded by the EU! Another reason to leave without a deal to keep funding Greenpeace.
I was in Gdansk in July. Lovely place, lovely people. I went on a trip up the river through the port and ship yards, massive and impressive. Greenpeace contamination is not welcome there.
In the countryside Poland does have an unfortunate number of wind turbines.

I mentioned a while ago that the CC activism is now the new religion. More and more people are turning their backs on religion so, as religion’s prime purpose is one of control, how do you control people? Simple, create another belief system that talks of eminent doom for mankind, collectively and individually, provide “proof” of said doom, offer salvation to believers if they agree to your control and lastly ban and persecute all nay sayers.
You don’t expect the MSM, especially the BEEB, to run with that story do you?

As a Marine regulator, I had to deal with the fledgling Greenpeace many years ago and I quickly came to the conclusion that they regarded them selves above the law. A founder Pat Moore disassociated himself, as this organization was becoming too extreme. One has to realize that this is a business out to make money and must keep in the lime light to keep the contributions coming in. The Poles should force them to repaint the graffiti using 2′ brushes.
The so called self styled useful idiot celebs are an integral part of their financing plan. Next time you are solicited by some wistful young person tell them to FO

Greenpeace (greenpiss) are running a campaign on social media to boycott prepackaged fruit and vegetables in supermarkets. It is to protect the oceans. Here is my facebook comment. It seems to have disappeared on facebook….I wonder why?
This is a waste disposal problem….unscrupulous operators (in Italy its the mafia) are disposing of waste by illegally exporting it in containers to the far east, where it is simply thrown in the ocean or burnt in peoples backyards. Most of the ocean plastic gets into the sea from 12 rivers in Africa, China and the far east. If greenpeace got its finger out and organised the collection of this waste like Ellen MacArthur charity does, rather campaign for the west to reduce plastic packing of fruit and veg. (which many have pointed out increases the shelf life of the product) then I would support them. Greenpeace run these pointless campaigns just to get donations from gullible westerners, there is no point in running them in the far east as they don’t have any money. The point has been made before and recently, though off-hand I can’t remember where, that Greenpeace is not interested in a solution to the problems it campaigns against but to control them to a level where they can continue to justify their existence.
The article I read also made a comparison with Ellen McArthur’s work.
Many of the NGO charities — WWF, FoE, Oxfam, SCF, Cafod — operate in a similar manner. It is 10 years since I blogged on a report that concluded that with a bit of infrastructure South Sudan had the land and the potential to become the “breadbasket of Africa”. The obstacles were the local warlords, the do-gooders who turned up with enough goodies to solve the immediate drought/famine problem but never enough to make the local people self-sufficient (assuming those same warlords would allow it) and the outside world which didn’t give a damn.
Which is the main reason I have continued to preach the virtues of those charities that get their hands dirty instead of behaving like the Lady of the Manor doling out Christmas gifts to the estate peasantry. Avoid the NGOs like the plague. Give your money to the likes of Mercy Ships, WaterAid or Mary’s Meals who at least make some attempt to improve the lives of the people they deal with instead of polishing their own haloes while taking advantage of the very people they are supposed to be caring for.
A great post Mike, one quibble, if you insist on donating, give money yes but to local UK charities, ie hospices and the like, where your money will go directly to patients and nurse etc and not be disbursed to a top heavy bureaucracy and kickbacks all the way down the ‘pipeline’.

NB, State enforced taxation in the west, virtue signalling pols, spewing funding and sloshed over the big Charities, inhibits development because it prevents Africans from helping themselves.
Athelstan — Maybe I should have prefaced it with “if you want to give to charities working in the developing world …” Have a look at what the three organisations I mentioned are up to, Mary’s Meals especially.

Mike, the problem with foreign aid is that it is fragmented. All the nations of the world should get together and decide, Norway you do hydro schemes, Canada you do forestry, China you do backyard industries. Instead every nation wants to tackle every priority, with zero communication between bureaux of two donor nations tackling the same thing in the same recipient country. Some earnest, well-meaning Ph.D. candidate writes his thesis on sand dams in low-rainfall countries and five years later another earnest, well-meaning Ph.D. candidate tackles the same problem of rainwater retention to improve fodder yields for free-grazing animals. The fragmented budgets also mean that no one nation has enough resources to do the job properly.

Would be nice to see our government doing the same thing by opposing Greenpeace? Really? When the swivel eyed Michael Gove apologises to St Greta on our behalf? Not a chance.
The police have arrested 2 of the ‘leaders’ behind the planned Heathrow drone protest. Maybe ‘the state’ has begun to realise the eco-loons are just terrorists/anarchists with a pseudo noble-cause veneer?

When will it become common knowledge that cutting CO2 emissions leaves carbon in the ground but takes no CO2 from the atmosphere? The Paris goal of negative emissions to go back to 350 ppm is unreachable.

were Christians ,but the people of the West did not protest. It will be the same in the future with Climate Deniers. No one will protest. It will be incorrect thinking.
I could imagine a substantial bill for damages. Not only the cost of repainting the vessel, but also the costs of all the delays during which it would have been earning its keep.
Strange that no one questions why Poland, with its large resource of coal should be importing coal from Mozambique. I guess that the EU is not at all happy with Poland, considering it used the excuse of having large natural resources and therefore unnecessary to reduce electricity generation from coal plants. The EU therefore had to back down on some of its carbon reduction targets.
Just turned on Sky news and Extinction Rebellion are at it again. This time gluing themselves to fashion retailers and protesting. But not about how slave workers in North Korea or China or child labour in India are used to produce the clothes. But about the contribution to the mythical climate change.
There is plenty of waste for some reason women seem to never to have enough dresses. Most men are happy with just what they need.
I notice there is not the heavy handed policing on climate change protests as there are on anti-fracking protests. Anti-fracking protests are hindering commercial activity but with the government overruling local council and local democracy. Perhaps more justification for peaceful protest. If local opinion is swayed buy campaigning groups then with all the green propaganda then support for Extinction Rebellion may grow.
Hopefully the reality like Germany’s recent energy shortage will wake people up.
The policing of (delusional/pointless) anti-fracking protests has been extremely light-handed. The only time it has been more robust is where the fracking company has had an injunction in place and continued disruption is contempt of court.
