New polar bear horror emerges out of advice to parents on eco-anxiety in kids

October 7, 2019

By Paul Homewood

Susan Crockford on the latest polar bear scare:

Unbelievably wrong: A psychologist has told parents to assure their children that rising sea levels might be an immediate threat to polar bears – but not to kids in the UK. She says this is “putting things into perspective” for anxious kids but is horrifyingly and almost laughably far off the mark.

The amount of ignorance about polar bears from those who still consider the species an appropriate icon for catastrophic climate change never seems to end.

From the Mail on Sunday (28 September 2019), “As doctors warn of a surge in youngsters with eco-anxiety, MARINA FOGLE reveals how to stop Greta Thunberg and Co making your children sick with worry” [my bold]:

“So what should we do when confronted by a child who is distressed by environmental concerns?

Child psychiatrist Dr Kathryn Hollins advises a frank discussion – because a desire to be more environmentally friendly is a positive thing. ‘Let them know they are not alone in having worries,’ she says. ‘Ask them what they are scared of and where they got these thoughts from.’

She says that reassurance will come from putting things into perspective. Rising sea levels might have an immediate effect on the lives of polar bears, but not on those living in the UK, she explains.”

Fact: Rising sea levels – the pitifully small amount that has happened since  1900 or predicted at 2100 – are in no way a threat to polar bears. Polar bears survived sea level changes of 100s of metres within the last 40,000 years along with unimaginable changes in sea ice extent.

Here’s a perspective based on fact rather than myth: polar bears are currently thriving and all scientific evidence shows they are not threatened by the amount of reduced summer sea ice they have experienced so far and are unlikely to be devastated if summer sea ice declines further.

My advice to parents: view the video below, buy this book for kids: “Polar Bear Facts & Myths” (available in English, French, Dutch, German, and Norwegian) and buy this book for yourselves: “The Polar Bear Catastrophe That Never Happened“.

Susan Crockford seems to be the only polar bear scientist who can be trusted to tell the truth. The rest are creators of fake news and are liars and propagandists.

    Child abuse springs to mind.

We do have fundamental problems as a society, we encourage anxiety and fear.

The current eco fear-mongering is similar to the religious fear mongering of Hell if you don’t believe. They just want to control behaviour.

However this anxiety encouragement extends to all sorts of stuff where it should be absent, one thing I think is quite wrong is if you read the NICE “patient information leaflet” of any prescription medicine, and you believe what it says, you would not take a single tablet !

So everyday I ignore the information provided by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence as they are obviously quite mad! I think?

The fear of Hell NEVER got close to what AGW is doing. It’s a whole new level that one could not have imagined in the past. Plus, Hell was based on YOUR behavior, not everyone else’s as is the case with AGW. It’s really not even close to the same thing. Plus, it was voluntary as an adult. So stop with the silly, religion-hating non-examples (it gets old and makes you look foolish).

The prescription medicine pamphlet is a great comparison. EVERY single occurance of anything that is over 2% gets listed. Thus, some medication for hair loss lists influenza as a possible side effect. I actually called a drug manufacturer once and asked how colds and flu can be a side effect. It seems if you do the study in cold and flu season, you get over 2% occurance, thus the “side effect”. It is absolutely insane. Same for operating a lawnmower. If you follow the instructions, you can’t take it out of the box. This is due to lawyers and greedy people. Now, science has ZERO meaning unless you find the original studies or call and ask. Climate science is not alone in destroying science.

I will also add that it seems the skeptics just can’t stick to science and have to include religion bashing, which makes them as wrong and unscientific as the true believers in AGW.

I’m glad that our fine British polar bears are unaffected. When the good Doctor is out treating the worried foreign bears who are having trouble deciding whether they want ice or not (bi-polar bears), then she can do some more good.

The only way Marina Fogle can stop children worrying about the stupid Ms Thunberg is to tell the children that Thunberg does not know what she is talking about: that her statements are all lies and there isn’t any problem to worry about

“Schapira started her project because, in the snowy New England winter of 2013, she was gripped by a sudden and profound sense of despair over the ecological collapse of coral reefs.”

I thought that was a lot older, but it seems the article that photo was posted in was written only 3 years ago.

What? And learn facts and about things like data? Perish the thought. Those of the left are willfully ignorant as the truth usually demolishes their beliefs.

Read this again and Kathryn probably just picked Polar Bears as that is something little children might relate to. She does say sea level rise in UK will not be a problem which is correct. Others in the media and government haven’t quite got that message.

The latest “State of Nature” reporting is off the wall stuff, looked into the actual data behind the report a bit, and the report isn’t that alarming and the data is questionable at best. They simply ignore things like the increase in predation by the increase in Domestic Cats from 4million (1970) to 8 million (2018), and then say some small mammals and birds are having a bit of difficulty!

Wish someone would get rid of the voles in my garden, I plant stuff and they just say thanks very much!

Presumably Marina Fogle is the wife of Ben Fogle, which probably explains how she came by her views on this. The Fogle family would do well to listen to Susan Crockford instead of pursuing their extreme dreams:

Rising oceans are forcing polar bears to relocate. Many are moving to England, and they are non too happy about it. They know your parents are the cause, and they know where they live. Some bears might be under your parents’ beds right now, just waiting to idevour them in their sleep. So, don’t worry about polar bears. They can take care of themselves. But if you care about your parents, make them stop causing the oceans to rise. Then polar bears will stay home, and leave you alone. Maybe.

Now, stop worrying about polar bears, OK?

Maybe we need to get a nice young persons research tour organized so that as many ‘climate worried’ children can go to the North Pole and play with those cuddly Polar Bears. Worried parents can either accompany their children or sign the disclaimer.

All outcomes to be videoed and shown on a Youtube livestream.
Those that decide to return to the warm safety of their westernized lives must write a journal of everything they have experience (with pictures) and submit it to all climate alarmist blog sites and the UN.

Polar bears swim! They swim out to icefloes and dive into the water when they see a large fish or small marine animal. Children were taught this in Canada in the 1960’s and presumably still are. The fur of the polar bear has two kinds of hairs One keeps them warm in icey water because it is hollow. Like all bears they have small brains ,are extremely savage and will eat any animal that moves and is the right size.

To the idealist bed wetters out here go read Alastair Dawson’s recent ‘So Fair and Foul a Day: A History of Scotland’s Weather and Climate’. You want temps low and higher and storms and iced estuaries premised upon excited wavelengths? The dicks in charge via engineer/policy driving is the fundamental fault. Too much we read about ‘engineers’ and how their somehow systematically capable if only…

Parents should be told child psychiatrist Dr. Kathryn Hollins meant to say Unicorns, about which she knows quite a lot. About Polar Bears she knows nothing.

It appears that the real problem with polar bears is that they are cute and that therefore they make a useful victim of the horrors of climate change with excellent sales potential.
