Delingpole: Greta the Teenage Climate Puppet Goes Full Marxist

December 1, 2019

By Paul Homewood

The mask has slipped!

Greta Thunberg the teenage Climate Puppet has gone full Marxist.

In her latest public statement, she says that the ‘climate crisis is not just about the environment’:

That action must be powerful and wide-ranging. After all, the climate crisis is not just about the environment. It is a crisis of human rights, of justice, and of political will. Colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression have created and fueled it. We need to dismantle them all. Our political leaders can no longer shirk their responsibilities.

To anyone familiar with the workings of the green movement, Greta’s statement will come as no surprise whatsoever.

That’s why I called my book on the subject Watermelons.

Environmentalists are often green on the outside, red on the inside. Their movement is essentially a global socialistic redistribution exercise hiding behind a mask of green righteousness.

Meanwhile, the consequences of little Greta’s hissy fits are being felt across Europe and hitting ordinary people hard.

In Germany the car industry is ailing badly:

Daimler, the German company that makes Mercedes-Benz cars, will slash at least 10,000 jobs worldwide in a major cost-cutting drive to help finance the switch to electric cars.

“The total number worldwide will be in the five-digits,” said personnel chief Wilfried Porth. More than 1,000 managers stand to lose their jobs.

As it is also in the UK:

Production this year is down by 14 per cent on the same period in 2018. The only month to rise was August, when output was artificially raised because many plants were shut in the same month a year earlier.

“Yet another month of falling car production makes these extremely worrying times for the sector,” said SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes.

Germany’s electricity prices have rocketed to their highest ever:

More than 340,000 German households had their electricity turned off last year because they couldn’t pay their electricity bills.  A mother is sitting with her son in her darkened apartment in Hanover (Source: DPA)

While wholesale electricity prices in Germany have increased by about 13 percent in 2019, taxes and levies on electricity have reached their highest level ever and will cost German families and consumers a staggering 44 billion euros in 2020.

And yet again the latest UN Climate Summit – COP25 – which Greta Thunberg is attending is destined to be a damp squib, with lots of scaremongering talk and little concerted action.

Any carbon dioxide emissions cuts it agrees on will be more than offset by the growth of Chinese industry.

Astonishingly, over the past 18 months China has added enough new coal-based electricity generation (43GW) to power 31 million homes. King coal has returned. Not only that, China is also financing 25% of all new proposed coal plants outside of its own borders, e.g., South Africa, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. They’ve gone coal gaga.

In less than two years, China is once again immersed in a vast “coal boom,” similar to its “one new coal plant per week” 2006-2015 commitment, resulting in air pollution so thick it could be cut with a knife, now replenished as new coal power plant construction is planning an additional 148GW, a number that equals the current total coal generating capacity of the EU.

To add insult to injury, China is trolling the COP25 climate talks by mocking their puny efforts:

Beijing. CHINA on Wednesday accused developed countries, including the US, of doing too little to curb global warming, ahead of a UN summit discussing controversial issues including climate compensation.

China is the world’s second-largest economy and the biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, but has repeatedly argued that developed nations should lead on tackling international climate obligations.

“Developed countries’ insufficient political will to provide support” is the “biggest problem” currently facing international climate efforts, said Zhao Yingmin, Vice-Minister of ecology and environment, at a press conference on Wednesday.

And with most of the West so eager to destroy its industrial capacity just because an annoying little girl in pigtails got radicalised by watching Ice Age 2, is it any wonder that China treats it with such ill-disguised contempt.

“Any carbon dioxide emissions cuts it agrees on will be more than offset by the growth of Chinese industry.”

CO2 emission cuts (especially down to Net-zero) must include the oxidation of fossil fuels used by people in the real world…gasoline, diesel, even biofuels. In addition cuts in emissions do not lower CO2 already emitted and in the real atmosphere. Do St. Greta and AOC, Bernie et al. really understand what it is they are proposing?

Are we to stop building, too? 8% of the world’s CO2 emissions comes from manufacture and use of cement. (I saw a higher figure somewhere but can’t find it now – age catching up with me.)

She is descended, through her father, from Svante Arrhenius, the Nobel prize-winning scientist who in 1896 first calculated how carbon dioxide emissions could lead to the greenhouse effect. He thought the Earth would boil in a few thousand years.

She is definitely taking after him; she’s wrong too. Tony Heller says: “He made a fundamental error in that he didn’t recognise water vapour is a greenhouse gas. Knut Angstrom pointed this out in 1901, and showed experimentally that adding CO2 has very little impact on climate.”

    • December 1, 2019 6:17 pm

Not for nothing is he known as Erroneous.

    • December 1, 2019 10:18 pm

After Angstrom & Wood showed his theory wrong, Arrhenius came up with theory 2 in 1906, also flawed (but at least he had the good grace to admit he was wrong).

None of it is Marxism. Marx analysed the relationship between capital and labour. He suggested that as socialism progressed and the workers get to control the means of production, the State would ‘wither away.’ This is the opposite to what is happening now with the anti-CO2 movement. The globalists behind the anti-CO2 movement want super control of both the means of production (via energy production and employment – or rather the lack of these) and of our State/s via brainwashing of our people and parliamentarians who have actually LEGISLATED to reduce energy production and thus increase unemployment. We have a creeping international fascism here – not leftist, not Marxist – but extreme right and fascist.

    • Harry Passfield permalink
      December 1, 2019 6:21 pm

Your hypothesis may be correct but your conclusion is not.
The State is definitely ‘withering away’: the Eu and UN are leading examples of this plan. Let’s face it, the EU is a prime example of the loss of state to a supranational oligarchy – defined and initiated by a bunch of Marxists back in the 40/50s. Climate Change is a means to an end for these control freaks – and would that be all they were. They will happily destroy our society in an attempt to prove their point and celebrate their socialist piety. The fact that they will not suffer the consequences of their actions is what makes them not care too much.

      • Ariane permalink
        December 1, 2019 7:12 pm

Harry, my conclusion is that the workers are NOT in control of the means of production and the State is NOT withering away. And this is because the globalists like the EU and UN institutions are in control of energy production and thus workers’ income (employment) via the anti-CO2 movement. The origins of the EU were definitely not Marxist. Note also that Maurice Strong may have had socialist connections, but his anti-industry perspective originated with the Limits to Growth by the Club of Rome – a very wealthy bunch of people. As I say, there is no Marxism in any of it. The anti-CO2 movement was started by the rich and is promoted continuously by the rich. Any ‘Leftist’ support of this movement (eg Greta on about colonial, racist and patriarchal systems) just shows lack of analysis and lack of knowledge about history. This confusion is happily publicised by the globalists as it strengthens their control of energy production and the workers, and with the gloss of ‘justice’ and ‘anti-capitalist’, this control is given a very nice appearance. All helps in the brainwashing. If I recall correctly, Hitler wrote about being anti-capitalist in his manifesto for national socialism.

Ajax, no need to feel sorry! I’m not uttering Marxist ‘dogma’, just referring to what he wrote. And far from being ‘blinded to the truth’, my opinion that the anti-CO2 movement was started and perpetuated by the rich is historical and evidenced. Greta is a pawn of the globalists. So-called Marxists who use the anti-CO2 movement to attack capitalists are fools not Marxists.and as John points out, capitalists (like Al Gore) are only too glad to use the anti-CO2 movement to make more profits! If you want the truth it’s this: low-paid workers, the unemployed, the poor and asset-less would never promote the end of cheap fossil fuel use. So ask yourself: who is?

    Hello Everybody,

It is important to realise that, whatever the Leftist or Marxist leanings of this movement, it is being ably abetted by crony capitalism selling highly expensive unreliable renewable energy systems to many of the Western countries. The governments of the latter seem to be so keen to impoverish their populations in this way in the vain hope that they can appease the climate greens.

Dieter Helm in the updated version of his book ‘The Carbon Crunch’ suggested at page xii that, “Climate change policies are a magnet for rent-seeking lobbyists and vested interests – especially those associated with current renewables and nuclear.”

In short, this movement seems to be a highly effective alliance between Right and Left with the ordinary people of the Occident caught in their pincer movement. It will be expensive for those ordinary people, and politically and economically debilitating for the nations of the West. Without being too Spenglerien, the future of the West looks bleak while their governments utterly fail to challenge and interrogate the post-normal science promoted by the climate alarmists.

Absolutely. It’s yet another unintended consequence of QE as the wall of cheap money chases yield.
As an example, there is an IPO by Octopus Renewables, closing 5/12/19. Considering it myself – just to flip it. The sustainable theme is the current trend that is making quite a bit of money for people! Just like oil and other commodities were when QE first started. Watch the air come out when the bandwagon rolls on to the next trend, though by then the damage done to our infrastructure might be terminal.

My problem with all this is our reaction to all the Marxist initiatives, economic and cultural. When Genghis Khan rampaged, did the countries under threat decide they needed to debate their politics? When Napoleon tried to make Europe his empire (how proud he would be of the EU), did countries decide to fight for their nations or question whether he might have a better idea of government than them? We are at war with the same level of evil and are not dealing with it robustly. Marxism is about taking complete control of a country for the specific benefit of an elite group.

Ian, ‘Marxism is about taking complete control of a country for the specific benefit of an elite group’ ? Where can you find this in any of Marx’s writings? From my readings, Marx referred to workers’ control of the means of production and the withering away of the State. Can’t remember anything about ‘taking control of a country for the specific benefit of an elite group.’ This bit sounds more like Nazism to me.

It matters not that Marx may have been anti-big state, his writings are the means that give an initial cloak of respectability to all dictators. Greta is useful. The activists she gathers will block cities and require actions. Politicians can use it to make hasty environmental laws and invent taxes according to the wishes of the dumb children.

Politicians can smile with her on camera and have millions of hysteric young supporters that support political dictatorship to save the world from humans. Hitler was against Jews – The new dictators will be against humans.

The taxes and regulations will hit society, people, and parents and be great for political projects. Money will support politicians luxury life in the EU at a safe distance from demanding inhabitants of each member state.

Then when the stupid kids become voters, politicians can once again offer them solutions with new laws and new taxes.

They are so indoctrinated they will never figure it out. If they wake up and protest, the system “hate speech police force” will find them, silence them. Dissidents will be tracked down and charged with being an “enemy of the state”. “Enemy of saving the planet”.

Speaking up is already a crime in countries like Canada and Sweden. Newspapers and media full of “useful idiots” helping destroy dissidents claiming they are evil nationalists, when all they do is complain about destructive outcomes of idealistic experiments.
