Ignore Fake News, Says Fake News BBC!

Maybe the BBC should start by taking a good look at themselves!

The problem posed by disinformation online is increasingly serious, the BBC’s director general has said.

Tim Davie told the Radio Times: “Traditional journalism has been playing catchup in the disinformation world.”

He added that 2020 has repeatedly highlighted the dangers of the internet as conspiracy theories about coronavirus and the US election were circulated online.

“News sources such as the BBC need to work harder than ever to expose fake news and separate fact from fiction,” he said. “We need to take care that trusted news is not blown off course by claims that are unfounded, however widespread they become.

“And we need to recognise that we are up against the well-funded, state-backed actors who see news as an extension of state influence and a tool for disrupting our societies and democracies.”

Davie said he was proud of the BBC’s effort to “stand up for integrity in news and fight disinformation on the frontline”.

Could this be the same BBC, who rely on Greenpeace for their climate change reports?

Is it the same BBC, which has just broadcast a woefully one-sided indoctrination programme, masquerading as a “Royal Institution Christmas Lecture”?

Or which trumpeted Christian Aid’s mendacious report on extreme weather, without the slightest attempt to check or challenge it?

Or broadcast a Panorama documentary on UK extreme weather, that was so misleading it should have carried a warning label?

All these instances have occurred in just the last month, and many more examples can be found over the years of outright lies, misinformation, omission of relevant facts, bias and a stubborn refusal to report the views of those experts who don’t agree with the BBC’s climate agenda.

And that’s before we even get started on the BBC’s political and anti-Brexit bias.

What Mr Davie is really saying, of course, is that we must all get our “news” from the BBC, and ignore other sources in case we discover the true facts.

I’ve always listened to the news on BBC Radio 4, and watched it on the TV, ever since childhood when my parents did the same. Now – mainly since Brexit proved how biased the BBC was – I still do so, but only to criticise and in order to know what rubbish they are putting out today. I am in my 60s and have always taken an interest in the environment ,and the effect of man’s actions on it, but now I look back on everything I heard and read in the past and am trying to work out what was fact and what wasn’t.

      Lizzie,
you are at one of the best places to find objectivity on this issue.
I have watched the capturing of the BBC by left wing ideologs over the past 10-15 years with both concern and dismay. I used to be so proud when abroad to talk to people in countries which do not have the freedoms we take for granted listening them speaking about the BBC in glowing terms. Now when I have such conversations I offer words of caution on the subjects I know a little about because what is see and hear is far from impartial, they are promoting an ideological view which has nothing to do with the dissemination of factual news and information.

It is obviously a requirement now on the BBC to mention climate change or, worse, the “emergency”, at least once in every programme on Radio 4 no matter how irrelevant it is to the main subject. That is on top of the programmes dedicated to climate change like the daily one we can look forward to at 1.45 this week with Tom Heap, whoever he is. I had hoped the new director general might have some modicum of sense but apparently not. Sadly too many people still trust the Beeb, can’t think why.

      Brenda,
My first education is as a geologist and this stems from a love of the outdoors and a desire to understand the world that made us. I am as a consequence a scientist and automatically have learned to question everything I am presented with.
A major part of my tv viewing diet are programs with any link to natural history or the physical sciences.
Sadly of late I watch very little because to find a factual programs without opinion pieces so rare. As a consequence I go to Youtube to watch such programs.
My yardstick is anything more than 5 or 10 years old is generally unpolluted.
I really object to being lectured to by cretins reading from an autoprompt.
So often as you say there is no need for it to be there and it stands out more because of the lack of context.
Contryfile and its ilk are for me generally low brow but easy on the eyes and brain. However they are unwatchable because of the incessant references without qualification by the dullard presenters to climate change whenever possible. It is the falseness and complete unnecessary nature of the insertion which annoys. It is now virtually impossible to just watch something factual without the damned unsubstantiated and unqualified insertion of “CC”

The BBC’s biased twisted reporting of Trump over the last few weeks is more comical than ever. Scowling Trump pictures, grinning Biden.

‘Unsubstantiated’, ‘no evidence’, they cry – yes, only if you refuse to hear it, report it, see it, actively suppress it.

Trump is deeply flawed, but he is a hero for standing up to the deep state, big tech and the MSM. The last man standing between a new dark age and the death of any semblance of democracy.

It’s typical that the BBC reports the recording of Trump in a tone that suggests he is improperly pressuring Georgia to commit fraud and ‘find votes’, not that he means correct a small fraction of the fraud that went on there – the BBC won’t report the statistical analysis, affidavits, immensely vulnerable and compromised voting systems and facts behind his ‘find votes’ request.

The data says beyond all reasonable doubt that there was massive fraud in key places, and it needs to be properly investigated. Yes, sometimes there can be misunderstandings/mistakes that means the data does not indicate what it appears, but a proper investigation would find that out, and then Biden/Harris can carry on with legitimacy.

Has Tim Davie deliberately been put in place to highlight the problems at the BBC?

Perhaps not, but Robert Conquest’s third law fits the bill, even when the politics are reversed:

Robert Conquest’s Three Laws of Politics:
    1) Everyone is conservative about what he knows best.
    2) Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing.
    3) The simplest way to explain the behavior of any bureaucratic organization is to assume that it is controlled by a cabal of its enemies.
    http://www.isegoria.net/2008/07/robert-conquests-three-laws-of-politics

We need to encourage Davie to be even more descriptive: there’s plenty of it to describe at the BBC! And well substantiated ridicule is a very effective tool for weakening an opponent. 🙂

    • Robert Christopher permalink
      January 4, 2021 11:53 am

The comments under the Conquest Laws are also informative. I like this one in particular:

      “G-Man says: October 22, 2015 at 1:36 pm
      4. the simplest way to identify the cabal is to find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”

Many state bound organisations come to mind, especially those who have had orchestrated ‘praise sessions’ arranged on a national scale, when the praise should be directed at some individuals, and not all of those within the Public Sector.

And with Science requiring informed discussion that includes promoting ideas that increase understanding, at the expense of others, we need to question to what extent Scientists appearing on TV (and the organisations they represent) are part of the cabal.

        “Praise sessions…”

Reminds me of a very short sci-fi story I read, Lo these 65 years ago – funnily enough it was written by a well-known American who rose to fame as TV host of (almost) the first of the now ubiquitous, propagandist, planned-interview, shows (masquerading as – or mixed with – light entertainment).

A man, excited and eager, enters a stadium for his first time participating in the latest government-ordered, mass action, which uses a technique from the new science of enhanced telepathy.

A hundred-thousand people watch, while a “wrong thinker” is dragged into the middle. Then they all concentrate on hating him. He shrivels and dies.

The man, confused and revolted, leaves with a piece of paper ordering him to attend regularly – or become the man in the middle.

        The End.

Different situation. It wasnt voting meddling by Russia before or now. Foreign
government interference in the pre election campaign is barred by US law, whether it be Russia or Britain.
As for Trumps election evidence , there is none, in court Giuliani appearing for the Trump campaign was asked by the judge if he was alleging fraud and he said no.
“Under questioning from a federal judge in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Mr. Giuliani made a different admission: “This is not a fraud case,” he said.’
That was because the standard of proof for Fraud is much higher and he had none at all for the injunction he was seeking ( he wasnt asking for a trial with evidence presented later)

Most of the reasonable claims referred to vote processing period and time allowed for ballots to arrive. They have been rejected bar one in Pennsylvania which covers less than 1500 votes ( and likely to be 50:50 or so for each candidate)

I agree with most here about the BBC flimsy claims on many things but the election isnt one of them. They are still going on over the ‘dire predictions’ over Brexit, when even the port chaos came to nothing like all the rest

Absolutely spot on. When the BBC wails about ‘fake news’, invariably it is trying to park the truth way out of sight of its’ audience. As you have demonstrated regularly here, equally insidious is their continual failure to report on facts, matters and events that run contrary to their preferred narrative. They’ve been doing it for years in relation to the climate (non) debate but, increasingly, on political and social matters. Their coverage of Brexit, the US election, Covid, BLM etc etc has been a complete disgrace. And, increasingly, they’ve been cordinating their coverage with fellow travellers in the media, global elites, ngo’s and the big tech world that completely blindsides much of their viewership to the reality of what is really happening around them.

I shall be interested to see the Beeb’s reaction to the millions of disenfranchised Americans kicking off in the next few days at the Biden steal. Will it just ignore the demonstrations or write the protestors off as far right trailer park troglodytes who have ‘no evidence’ of election irregularities? I somehow doubt that they’ll be dispatching Panorama investigators to wade through the numerous affidavits of election officials and postal workers detailing ballot fraud and videos of voting irregularities, like any independent minded broadcaster would, to try and actually establish the veracity of Trump’s complaints. Nope, I’m sure it’ll be the usual dose of ‘orange man bad, Biden good, nothing to see here, let’s move on’.

‘We must work harder to separate fact from fiction, says Tim Davie’

But that’s not what he is doing. He is declaring his opposition evil, therefore, he doesn’t need to separate fact from fiction. Anything others say can be dismissed as disinformation.

Disinformation is something others do, the BBC can’t. It’s in the definition. How convenient.

“And we need to recognise that we are up against the well-funded, state-backed actors who see news as an extension of state influence and a tool for disrupting our societies and democracies.”

Projection? If so, he just admitted to ‘state influence.’

The intent is to scare people into not listening to any other view. Indeed, demonizing others. This, in a fascist state, is pure Naziism. It’s 1935 all over again, and the BBC and Guardian are die Tageszeitung.

“History doesn’t repeat itself, but it often rhymes.” – Mark Twain

So what can Davie do to separate fact from fiction? ALLOW COMMENTS ON EVERYTHING. The solution, as we have known for centuries, is free speech.

‘Davie said he was proud of the BBC’s effort to “stand up for integrity in news and fight disinformation on the frontline”.’

Davie is proud to fight free speech.

Not so bothered about BBC political fake news, as all politics is fake news.

My run ins with the BBC have been about environmental propaganda being presented as “News”.

The Toddbrook Dam failure was blamed on climate change by David Shukman et al on the 6 o clock news. The inquiry determined the failure to be due to appalling design, operation and maintenance. Strangely this has never got on the BBC news.

Then David Attenborough in one of his fairy tales says Covid 19 is caused by human interference with nature.

Relentless BBC propaganda over decades has made climate change a reality for most people. Less wealthy news providers simply copy and paste the alarmism. The BBC has ensured that no critical comment on climate change is ever given publicity.
This is now about to cause enormous damage. The BBC has ramped up its alarmism to a daily event. Politicians feel under pressure to respond. The green policies though impractical, impossible and ridiculous will destroy our economy, way of life, energy security, transport, heating and much more. The BBC is a very dangerous threat to our country.
I no longer listen to or watch the BBC but switching off has no effect on its income. Removing the licence fee is the only way to shut down the propaganda. Put pressure on your MP that being forced to pay for a service you don’t want is no longer acceptable. The government obviously approves of the BBC climate campaign as does Ofcom.

What he is saying is the “truth” belongs to him and his other Elitists, and that he and they are so clever and so knowledgeable about absolutely everything that they cannot be wrong and cannot – indeed should not – be challenged.

The BBC has moved beyond reporting to a quasi-religious role where it decides and defines “truth” and seeks to root out heresy and blasphemy. Ironically it believes it is doing so from “science” when it is simply using whatever it deems to be Authority.

Brexit and Trump have strengthened the BBC’s resolve to prevent heretical ideas spreading: expect worse from the BBC in the future, not better.

I used to love watching wildlife programmes on TV – especially as times and camera technology advanced and evolved. The incredible close-up photography of rarely, if ever, seen footage of shy creatures was, and is still, wonderful.

But the whole process has been totally ruined by environmentalist/green/activist producers, script-writers and narrators – such as David Attenborough.

They have utterly corrupted every wildlife documentary to the extent that I now will not watch any so-called nature programme – knowing that it is only a matter of time in the programme before the dreaded and loathed phrase “climate change” is introduced. Such is the hate with which they hold humans to account for any natural changes. “Climate Change” being their shorthand for human-caused combustion of fossil fuels and emissions of the life-giving gas CO2.

They conveniently overlook the fact that had it not been for fossil fuels and the industrial revolution, they would not be living in the lap of luxury as they are now and technology, on which they rely, would hardly have progressed since the 1800s.

Luc Ozade: I never watch any wildlife documentaries for the same reasons as you – if David Attenborough’s involved, there’s no doubt about ‘climate change’ being forced into the narrative sooner or later. As you say, they forget the very nice lifestyle we all have thanks to proper science and technology!

One of the most memorable statements I have heard from a manager was, “What is the point of meeting all your personal goals if you leave a trail of destruction in your wake?”

Surely, Fake News should include NOT REPORTING on any ‘trails of destruction’.

Here is an example for the Climate Change Industry on which to ponder:

Here is another reference to it:

There are so many failures, yet this current government is ratcheting up the regulations, to look Green, and making conforming to them even more unobtainable!

I took our three TV’s to the tip and never looked back. The Thought Police came knocking. A man came and wanted to look in my house for TV’s and I said he could if I could loook in what he called his “TV detector van”. He declined. Another man came while I was outside gardening, he asked which BBC radio programmes I listen to. I held my breath, bit my tongue and was polite.
