    Black is white, ain’t it?
We must fight colour changes, but in UK that will cost upwards of £3trillion but HOW do we fight it?

I dreamt last night that a BBC interviewer asked a Greenpeace body to explain the winters of 1947 and 1963 if current record lows were a sign of climate change and waited patiently for an answer. He was still waiting when I woke up!

We are getting very close to a tipping point if we know how to make use of it. This ridiculous tweet just demonstrates the extent to which activism has lost contact with reality and will use any unusual weather event (not necessarily all that unusual) as an excuse to re-arrange society. Because that is the aim. Climate, as Edenhofer admitted a decade ago, has precious little to do with it.

Surprised (and pleased) to see some of the pushing-back comments on the linked Greenpuce twitter page. Quite encouraging really!

You have to laugh at these records. Madrid is what, 0.0001% of the area of the Earth? If that? So 99.9999% is completely normal but we should be trashing our economies and societies because. And it’s a record for a few hours. So again, Madrid has normal temperatures for 0.03%of a year and normal for 99.97% of the time.

And of course there will be records in limited areas – theres no reason to think every weather station everywhere has already had every possible weather it could naturally have.

Have a heart Paul, they have to keep the donations coming in, they have mouths and expensive executives to feed. What’s the odd lie now and again!

Looks like we’re going to have to get the temperatures back up again by generating loads more anthropomorphic CO2!
As you say Paul, you couldn’t make up this juvenile nonsense.

I like the concept of “anthropomorphic” C02 but I think the word “anthropogenic” is more (in)appropriate!

    I liked this one …

Looks like we fixed the global warming. You should be happy.”

My observation is that people over about 50 generally think that Global Heating (give it it’s correct Graun scary name purlease!) is bollox, and that age has reduced in recent years. I am now hearing increasing doubts from 40yos, but women are much more likely to believe it than men. The media is starting to suffer from the Pravda effect, if you keep lying then eventually people rumble you and then they don’t believe a single word you tell them.

Women tend to be much more caustic about ‘liars!’ and if they ever come to the conclusion they have been consistently lied to by an outlet, it is cast into the outer darkness in their minds.

I was having a think about this when seeing TV ads that suggest that buying a particular product will help to save the planet. The marketing folk have been known to totally misread their target audience in the past so are they off target with this stuff too? I’m really looking forward to seeing how Amazon’s fleet of electric Van’s works out.

Stonyground: Advertisers have come to terms with the fact that it is very difficult for them to access a male audience through TV. Major sports events work, but it is hard to design an advert that gets a useful male response. There are notable exceptions, like Virgin rip-off “Catch me if you can” advert that produced a measurable, substantial (10%+) bump in sales – the Holy Grail. Marketing console themselves with the cliche that 80% of household purchasing is controlled by women – from one survey done in Palo Alto in the mid-60s when Palo Alto was Stepford wives country. The true figure now is about 55% all in. Men generally buy the alcohol and the DIY stuff, and slightly more gardening than women. They also have a considerable % of food shopping these days – all those blokes in Tesco on their phones “so which one do you want”.

Almost all TV advertising is aimed at women, single men don’t watch much TV, and married men tend to watch it with their wives – it’s an ‘us’ activity.

The Korean figure, as quoted, is hardly historic or a record for cold on the peninsular. The Korean Meteorological Administration have only been collecting official data since 1980, and they recorded a figure of -19.6 in 1986. As for the Spanish figure, the figure quoted is well above the -32 recorded in 1956. There are recent reports of figures of -34 and -35 in Spain and snow in the Sahara and Saudi Arabia and bitter cold in China so perhaps it’s not golobal warming or climate change we should be all worried about but global cooling, so best we start pumping a few more magical molecules into the atmosphere to warm the place up a bit. Just like Greenpeace’s friends in Beijing are doing!

      Stonyground and Harry Davidson,
As regards TV advertising, have wondered what the target audience is?
Has anyone seen ANY advertisement which features a British white normal married family recently on TV?
Maybe I watch the wrong channels.

Minus 18.6℃ is not a South Korean low-temperature record as the idiots at Greenpeace would have the gullible believe.

The wiser ones at Greenpeace had previously pointed out, correctly, that minus 18.6℃ was only the coldest since Jan 5th 1986.

The low-temperature record for S Korea is -32.6℃ at Yangpyeongon Jan 5, 1981

The surprising aspect of this section is not the obvious slant by Greenpeace but the response by the Tweeters. 2 years ago you would have got an overwhelmingly supportive majority for a Tweet from GP like this. Today, the complete reverse is true. It must be an uncomfortable shock to GP.

It hasn’t helped their cause that they have chosen to say global warming via climate change is to blame for near record low temperatures. Even fence sitters will see how stupid this link is.

In 2015 Prof Valentina Zharkova, of Northumbria University, predicted a decline in solar activity in years 2020 to 2050 – comparable with the conditions of the Maunder minimum in the 17th Century.

“the researchers uncovered a pair of magnetic waves in the Sun responsible for variations during 11-year solar activity. The scientists managed to derive the analytical formulae, describing these two waves and made first the prediction of magnetic activity in the current cycle, which gave 97% accuracy.
Inspired by this success, Zharkova and her co-authors extended the prediction of solar activity to future cycles. They discovered that the waves become fully separated into the opposite hemispheres leading to a sharp decline in solar activity in years 2020 t0 2050 – comparable with the conditions of the Maunder minimum in the 17th Century. This will lead to a reduction of the solar magnetic field and a noticeable decrease in solar irradiance.”

I have believed since that that fuelled panic in green ranks, causing them to ramp up the mad rush towards creating a zero-carbon future (not that that is remotely possible of course) – making their fortunes, and/or carrying out their political agendas, whilst they can – so that the cooling when it comes can be attributed to the measures foist upon us. I mean, how would it be if we did nothing and the world still cooled? Collapse of stout party (in this case stout off the backs of the taxpayer) as they used to say.

I live in Seoul, South Korea. Let me tell you, it sure was cold here the other day.

Some remarks on the Greenpeac picture
    – the -18.6 degree temperature was the minimum temperature in Seoul. Other places in Korea were much colder. In the mountains, it got below -20C.
    http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2021/01/113_302154.html

    – the -18.6 degree is not historic. Winters were much colder in the past. Average minimum winter temperatures in Seoul have risen from roughly -7.5C in the 1930s and 1940s to roughly -4C in the last two decades
    https://www.kma.go.kr/eng/aboutkma/notice.jsp?bid=eng_notice&mode=view&num=94&page=3&field=&text=

    – Seoul did have some snow this January (it always has snow in January), but not when it was -18.6C (as the picture is implying)

Sadly, Greenpeace has completely lost its way and is now run by Eco zealots. For an organization which claims to protect our oceans it is tragic that they support offshore wind power and peddle misinformation.
