    Worked for me. Over 270.

OT, but I’m just researching my energy contract renewal and, using the usual sites, the best I can get is a deal that’s AT LEAST 20% more than this year’s. Most are nearer 30%.

I assume it’s at least in part due to this:

    Renewable Subsidies Reach Record High!

but have asked my current supplier for an explanation.

I think it has been mentioned on here earlier that there is a huge bill coming for the costs of managing the grid to stop it failing given the amount of unreliable generation there is. Any company offering a fixed term contract would be aware of that and have to cover. Having said that it might be that in the terms of the contract that they can increase to cost to cover something like this. What, you say, increase a fixed contract? Yes, one of the greenie companies did just that as the contract only fixed the basic energy cost and not anything like green taxes, which had just been raised. I don’t know where grid management costs would fall.

I tend to think petitions are rubbish
cos the only the official government portal checks your email address and that you are a genuine UK vote.
The rest I could sign ten times from anywhere in the world
Sometimes people sign with an obvious Fake name to prove the petition is worthless.

Of course I support the mine since it does more good than harm.

Signed, but I tend to agree about these petitions. I fear my email address has been harvested 😦 But don’t you love the way the last 20 or so votes count up slowly on the indicator, as though there are folk out there signing as you watch! Just refresh the page to see it happen! Needs a few more votes to counter the antis who are over 500 now.

Does anyone know if there is a gov.uk equivalent as Stew suggests?

Replying to myself, sorry. There is one for the antis with over 3200 votes that will run until July, nothing for the pros. It needs to get over 10000 for the government to even take any notice.

Thanks Paul. I’ve included a reference to Northumberland Mine which needs the coal for steam engines on private enthusiast trains. The main takeaway is where will these railways will get their coal. I know a lot of miners now too knackered to work the mines but as good union men never thought in their wildest dreams that they were doing anything to harm the planet.

It is interesting to note that a lot of commenters on the petition are anti-mining types, who can only spout platitudes. Functioning brain cells aren’t a prerequisite for them.

Will the impartial? BBC ever present an unbiased climate debate? Perhaps Paul would appear on the panel, along with Patrick Moore, Ian Plimer and Malcolm Roberts?
The eco loons represented by SDA. Not that I’m biased.
