Nepal is experiencing its worst fire season in almost a decade, officials said Tuesday, as huge blazes rage across the country’s forests, engulfing the Himalayan nation in a shroud of brownish haze.

Air quality in the capital Kathmandu was ranked on Tuesday as the worst in the world, according to monitoring site IQAir, with some international flights delayed as thick smoke blanketed the city.

"The highest number of wildfires have been reported this season since records of such incidents were maintained nine years ago," the spokesman for Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Uddav Prasad Rijal, told AFP.

I blame all those pesky renewables myself. The country is plastered with hydro-power stations plus a few solar plants wiith only 2 small diesel generators to keep Greenpeace hyperventilating.

Greenpeas are right. The wildfires are literally the worst in 0.9 decades.

“Air quality in the capital Kathmandu was ranked on Tuesday as the worst in the world.”
That’s very likely. Kathmandu’s air pollution is legendary. This proves nothing about the fires.

If you want some more fish in barrels to shoot, Sunday BBC2:-

“Missing Islands?” – that’ll mostly be the Tsunamis then, that wiped out entire towns, of course some of the lowest/smaller islands would have been swept away!

No doubt sea level rise will be blamed.

Of all the real problems these Islands have described below, climate change SHOULD be the least of their worries, and money and resources could be far better utilized.

Meanwhile, NOAA have produced this headline –

Despite pandemic shutdowns, carbon dioxide and methane surged in 2020
Carbon dioxide levels are now higher than at anytime in the past 3.6 million years

    Who will contradict them?!

      What do you want contradicted!

It is accepted that you need to go back to the Pliocene to find comparable CO2 levels IN THE PROXIES to the modern high resolution very short term instrument records.

Is it a meaningful comparison – who knows!

I wonder how many of those “wild fires” were actually started by Farmers burning off?

      You really need to ask?

And apparently they like to burn people out of their homes.

Expand the sections on Land use and Trees and forest in this page for the detail (glossing over all the equality etc. BS.

      https://www.land-links.org/country-profile/nepal-2/

Clearly the issue is not climate change, it is people population pressure, a recent natural disaster, poverty, and politics.

Poor people ravage the environment for what they need to survive and greedy criminals ravage it for profit in lawless/corrupt societies.

The link above also mentions recent satellite monitoring for fires so clearly recent years will have more KNOWN burn area.

The killer blow was the devastating 2015 earthquake which has pushed thousands of displaced people to acquire/clear yet more land.

Worrying about climate change and equality just wastes resources, and the environmental destruction will accelerate whilst the true causes are sidelined.

Only last August they were talking about ‘Monsoon Mayhem’.

At least there are people out there attempting to argue the case against the GW hysteria; Politicians in Norway are being targeted:

Its now a day of mourning. No, its not because Prince Phillip has sadly died, its because Greta is not going to Glasgow this year. I did hear that they are now scouring the Swedish schools for the mentally disturbed to find a replacement. Shouldn’t be too difficult to find someone as the school kids have been thoroughly brainwashed for some time.

Very sad day with the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh. I recall being told at a RFS visit to the Windsor Estate that the great man said ‘Sustainability? I hate that bloody word’. I think it would be marvelous if at the end of the day, Phillip and the Queen had a good laugh over a nightcap at the coverage of his latest ‘gaffe’.

I never met him but I did meet his son once. Intelligence must have skipped a generation. I always thought that Phillip had a lust for life and was greatly interested in many varied things. His enthusiasm was infectious. He was certainly a man and I thought he was a loss to politics where there are precious few people with the guts and principle that he had in spades.
