As the next Climate Jamboree, the on/off COP26, approaches, the BBC has been busy ramping up its propaganda to ever more absurd levels, with Roger Harrabin and Matt McGrath, truly the Laurel and Hardy of environmental journalism, at the helm.

This week the Beeb has been broadcasting a series of make believe reports of what sport will look like in 2050, thanks to global warming. Flooded football pitches, scorched tennis courts, no more Winter Olympics, and an end to outdoor sport as we know it. If this scary imaginative future sounds like needless, made-up fear-porn, that’s because it is.

The series kicked off with with an interview with Joe Root, who said it was "scary to think that cricket may not be played outdoors in certain parts of the world in 30 years’ time because of the impact of climate change.” Joe, you may recall, had to be taken to hospital for dehydration three years ago after batting in sweltering heat in Sydney. It was so hot that day that temperatures nearly reached those recorded in 1939!

Joe may be our best batsman, but as far as climate change is concerned, he appears to have left his brain in his kit bag! The Aussies play their test cricket in December and January, not because those months are the COOLEST but because they are the HOTTEST. If it really does get much hotter, all they have to do is bring matched forward to November or push them back to February.

Meanwhile Joe’s fellow players back home would be excused for wondering which planet he was on, while they shiver through a cold, wet May!

image

Next up is the football World Cup, which will have to be played in climate controlled stadiums, with 40 man squads and 30 minute halves; all of course to beat the heat. This is all a bit rich, given that the next one will be played in Qatar, one of the hottest countries in the world! Maybe the BBC has not heard of night time matches?

image

Pride of place though must surely go to their vision of golf. Apparently proper golf will no longer be possible because our courses will either be flooded, destroyed by drought or under the seas. Instead we will all be playing “Extreme Golf”, a bit like  crazy golf but on a larger scale

, played amongst the concrete ruins of our decommissioned power plants, abandoned industrial sites and office blocks (uninsurable apparently because of repeated storm damage).

What will the BBC conjure up next? Underwater tennis at Wimbledon? Camel racing around the deserts at Royal Ascot? Lewis Hamilton coming in for a quick 3-hour pitstop, to recharge his Tesla?

So what lies behind this bunch of fairy stories, which should belong on Jackanory not the Evening News? The BBC are quite open about it:

Sport 2050 was conceived and created with the ambition of making the abstract future impacts of climate change more real for people by looking at how it might impact on their everyday lives. Sport – one of the most universally relatable areas of life across the globe that raises passions like no other – presents an ideal opportunity to do this.

The second thought behind the project was the ability of sport to help inform readers who may not otherwise have engaged with the science of, or news around, climate change. The science presented is therefore only designed to be of an introductory level and we have tried to link to and include some more in-depth reporting and articles for those who are interested.

Translation – “We don’t think you stupid people have taken in our propaganda well enough yet, so we’re going to try another approach – scare you into thinking the sports that you love are all over unless you go completely green”

“Sport 2050 was conceived and created with the ambition of making the abstract future impacts of climate change more real for people by looking at how it might impact on their everyday lives.”

How on earth can that be a justifiable activity for a public funded broadcaster?

But then they can’t even perform decent investigative reporting on environmental matters, instead simply regurgitating press releases from activist organisations like Greenpeace and FoE.

TS: You missed the most alarming second paragraph of their ‘mission statement’:

The second thought behind the project was the ability of sport to help inform readers who may not otherwise have engaged with the science of, or news around, climate change.

They really are now not even disguising their open propaganda. They need to be reigned in.

This is desperately sad, to think that so many people should be engaged in scaring sports people in such a fashion. Using 2014 as an example shows that what is being projected as stopping future sport has already happened – and solutions were found, by rescheduling and the like.
Look through the BBC piece and despair. That is our money being spent and they credit 18 people as helping…None of the weather events mentioned were exceptional and there is no evidence that they will happen more frequently in future.
Somehow, the BBC seems to be asking to be brought back in to line…

Perhaps the BBC hasn’t noticed that a simple virus halted almost all sport for months on end globally. No climate change necessary.

I suspect the BBC will neglect to mention that the electric TT Zero had been dropped due to their being less than 10 entrants in the last race. They would likely gloss over why the TT Zero was only ONE lap compared to six of the main classes included a pit stop of less than a minute. I think the TT realised it was a waste of valuable time to have the course closed for a bit of virtue-signalling.

Not sure that the BBC is wise to persist with false narratives at this point in its history. Their credibility is taking a huge knock, and the only way to restore it is to return to a path of sober truth, and admission of failures. Probably beyond them though.

      Economic/political/corruption/crime pushed migration.

With all the money wasted by the UN, and the NGOs etc. plaguing ad. breaks on TV with never ending begging for our money, if it were an issue of climate change – the migration could easily be stopped, an effective food distribution program and assistance to set up alternative business/livelihoods. But the UN etc. want to facilitate migration as part of their master plan for our future, it’s not in their interests to stop it at all.

The recent climate compact demonstrates that unequivocally. The list of ‘Objectives for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration’ starts out sounding reasonable, then by point 23 you realise it’s all about facilitating migration and migrant ‘rights’ making irregular regular!

I seem to remember when I first started skiing in the alps, back in the 70,s, some eco loony telling me to “enjoy it while you can ‘cos there will be no more snow after 1990”!!!!

BTW, Winter 2021, (as in 2020, 2019 & 2018) saw vintage alpine snowfalls, but sadly nobody to enjoy it.

The growth in ‘snow tourism’ has just meant more ski fields are areas that dont have enough snow and for long enough in season. But technology has advanced too as snow grooming machines can now make marginal areas usable for the bigger crowds of basic snowboarders who have replaced beginner skiers. As well snow making machines which have extremely cold water piped to them to blow extra snow on the lower slopes at night, and then groomed in early morning.

I well remember skiing in the early 1990s and seasons were very poor in both Europe and the US. Resorts in invested heavily in snow making equipment and reservoirs. Then something changed and since then there’s been far more good years than bad and much of that investment has been wasted.

Pretty good snow in the Austrian Alps at the moment.

In 1970 the great and the good (and the Club of Rome – but they were neither) were fond of telling us all what the new millennium would bring man. Flying cars by the thousands? No oil? Plastic cars? (well, almost). But they were no where close to the predicting the internet, flat-screen interactive TVs, home computing and so on.
So, for the BBC to predict 2050 is nonsense. I think I’ll clip this post and leave it in my grandson’s scrap-book of daily newspapers (one per birthday) and let him compare it to reality then.

exactly, Malcolm. I wrote the following to the DT, more in hope than expectation, but if many more do the same perhaps we might get some traction:

      Sir,

The revelations – long overdue – that the BBC were implicit in the cover-up
of the means by which they obtained their Panorama interview with Princess
Diana should help to shed a light on their other immoveable opinion: Climate
      Change.

They have taken it upon themselves with a (proven) formal Corporate
decision, to DENY any and all counter-arguments regarding the contrived
scare that is man-made global warming. They use their dominance to lace
every programme in their control with messages – let’s be honest and call it
propaganda – about climate change. And all without any contra-argument.

This is intolerable and against all the rules of freedom of speech. As a
business which is bank-rolled by the (poll) tax of the populace they should
not be allowed to deny alternative opinion.

It is time that the BBC joined the real world. Warming or otherwise.

It's mostly otherwise pedestrians that use them, so they are negative for the environment/health/road congestion.

For “Sport 2050 was conceived and created with the ambition of making the abstract future impacts of climate change more real for people by looking at how it might impact on their everyday lives.” ,

read “we have tried every other way we can think of to scare you. Blackmailed you by scaring children etc. This time we go for the avid couch potato sports fan to try and get them on board and into line.”If this does not work then probably we will go back to square one.

    They are inventing scenarios………….why?

I watched the video about Montrose golf course. One look at why it is eroding is plain to sea. There is just grass on top of unconsolidated sand. I quote “This course is falling into the sea and that process is accelerating.”. Really? As usual it is just a fatuous statement with nothing to back it up

Next we have Prof (oh they do love their authority figures) Bill Austin who is equally fast and lose with his baseless off the cuff doom statements which actually makes not sense.
I quote “Because of Climate Change Sea level is accelerating”. No I did not understand that either but then he is a professor so we are just supposed to accept without question anything he says because he is important and clever.

  12. May 21, 2021 4:14 pm

I like the ” The science presented is designed to be of an introductory level”. What? Are we so stupid that we need you to dumb it down. Incredibly it is so dumbed down I cannot find any. Can you?

So here we are. Not content with distorting any factual piece to sex it up with climate fear, they move into the world of fantasy. Why do they need to do that if it is REAL and already HERE?

Excuse the multiple posts but I keep finding more and more deliberate misinformation promoted by the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/sport/57175397

“The key to the survival of most species on Earth is the greenhouse effect of our atmosphere.
While 98% of it is made of nitrogen, oxygen and argon gas – the critically important 2% for us are carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane and others”.

Why do they deliberately put CO2 first when Water vapour is the most abundant AND effective greenhouse gas. This is wilful to make people think CO2 is the main greenhouse gas.

Secondly, this took my breath away:

“The imagined scenarios are not predictions; they are creatively imagined and for illustrative purposes only – but are based on both the science and collective thoughts of how sport might adapt. “Based on science and collective thoughts??????

There is that science again and no you will not get told what science.

So they are not even basing this on their worthless models? I suppose they cannot produce a sexy enough result enough even when they by default abuse the statistical method and quote one extreme of the probability range ( the doomiest one of course) in isolation.

They might as well have begun their story with “Once upon a time”, or better still “Jackanory”.

Promise this is the last today: https://www.bbc.com/sport/av/57087451 Generation Next: Why sustainability is important to young athletes

Firstly the word sustainability is not mentioned once by any of them but “saving the planet” gets several mentions. Saving it from what?

My favourite virtue signalling sporting ignoramus has to be Eleynor Backstedt who starts of in a voice over of video of her riding her competition bike stating rather condescendingly “Obviously cycling is a green sport”. Hmmm and she goes on to say “some twaddle about their cars and then “some of their kit is made from recycled material” without of course bothering to telling us exactly what! However just take a look for a moment at her on her bike with its carbon frame( hydrocarbon) and paint ( hydrocarbon). plastic parts (hydrocarbon), helmet (hydrocarbon) sunglasses (hydrocarbon) outfit ( hydrocarbon) shoes(hydrocarbon)

This is what sticks in my craw most of all because these dumb idiots “believe” that their virtue signalling is real and worth a mention. They have been mislead to believe that their virtue signally really will “save the planet” when the reality is re CO2 Eleynor certainly has a hell of a footprint and will continue to do so.

The BBC increasingly does not hide its motives and methods
      .
They use the word “science” (or is it Cyense?) as some kind of sentence filler. They band it about a-la Greta as if repeating the word “science” is like Harry Potters Magic Wand giving authority to their words.

The BBC are in the van of the politicization of science because even if they fleetingly show anything remotely scientific, what they show is cherry picked and distorted, the results can be misinterpreted to support the cause. It is very clear that the BBC has politicized science because they NEVER EVER publish any scientific news which disagrees or refutes the alarmists claims or shows good news. That alone is unacceptable and something that the new DG should have addressed and clearly has been told to ignore.

When was the last time the BBC mentioned the greening of the planet or year on year record food production?

The BBC constantly are presented a biased and jaundiced opinion under the heading of science.

This future sport fantasy is just awe inspiring for the nerve they are showing.

If their “climate emergency” was real then why not show that instead of having to resort to fantasizing about a doom laden future that they clearly so desperately want?

Have you also noticed their egregious habit now for linking every isolated weather event as cause by climate change no mater how baseless and absurd such claims can be.

As people here will know, the BBC policy of 100% climate bias allows it to broadcast endless climate alarmism. The Corporation gives ER activists a platform. It worship Greta so much that she was invited to be guest editor for its flagship Today programme. It is screening a special series about her climate activism.

But it will not allow anyone, however distinguished and expert, to question or challenge the flawed science. But there is a glimmer of hope.

The BBC may have changes to its editorial process imposed by government. There could be an opportunity to challenge the current climate policy. At a time when the country faces a climate initiative costing trillions our national broadcaster should not be allowed to stifle national debate. The rest of the media does not have the resources of the BBC and tend to copy and paste BBC alarmism. It is therefore essential that the editorial policy is changed.

I suggest that all of us should do what we can to bring this about. There may not be another opportunity.

  22. May 22, 2021 3:27 pm

Maybe they are intentionally getting a bit silly so they can more easily abandon their position sometime in the future if things don’t pan out the ways that they hope. By “getting a bit silly” I mean “taking the piss”, I believe is how ya’ll refer to it over across the pond. Get more and more extreme with their predictions, and they can write it off as primarily fiction when they get called on it down the line. (assuming they ever do get called on it down the line)

  23. May 22, 2021 7:33 pm

So what will be next from the BBC after this outrage?

Are they setting the scene to drop actual reporting on this non-issue and just dream up bad case scenarios with only individual weather events absurdly promoted as caused by climate change?
Maybe they can also showing scenarios for your next family outing in the car where it “could” be hit an 18 wheeler head on and everyone dies horribly…..of maybe they can project also on the “possibility” that your next family holiday flight “could” end up as a hole in the ground. Hang on…. maybe they have thought of that already to stop you using your car and taking flights!
How about the scenario where the whole family could die in a house fire or all be murdered…how about cancers for everyone? There is a whole Pandora’s box of badness they can develop as scenarios but why would they do that when “bad” is just one of a myriad of possible outcomes and the most likely outcome (P50) means nothing of the kind will ever occur?

I will tell you why and here for the first time the cancerous malignancy infesting the BBC reveals itself for what it is. For what reason does a public subscription news broadcaster do this? That reason, their intention, is to promote a specific political agenda using fear to intimidate and influence and yes bully people into their way of thinking or I should say more clearly the thinking of those extreme left wing shadowy organizations who pull the BBC’s strings.
