Joanna Lumley Calls For Wartime Rationing To Tackle Climate Change

Joanna Lumley has called for a return to rationing to combat climate change.

The Absolutely Fabulous star suggested legislation is needed ‘for the sake of this beautiful Earth’.

‘These are tough times,’ she said. ‘We might even have to go back to some kind of rationing, where you’re given a certain number of points and it’s up to you how to spend them – whether it’s buying a bottle of whisky or flying in an aeroplane.’

Miss Lumley, 75, who has campaigned against single-use plastic, also said people should cut back on weekend breaks abroad and stop eating meat.

What “weekend breaks abroad”? It shows just how out of touch these luvvies are, that they think normal people regularly jet off to Spain every weekend.

And we can safely assume that she and her chums won’t be ditching their lifestyle any time soon, and living like the rest of us.

Some nnumerical prediction should always be made and stated of the impact of such gestures as our adopting vegetarianism.

What will be any effect on the climate be by, say, 2050?

Otherwise one would have no idea of whether the gesture would be predicted to have any useful benefit or not in averting dangers of climate change.

IPPC criteria and methods are appropriate to derive a worst case scenario.7

Yes cajw, the same applies to all “green” applied numptism. Take EV’s Bunter Johnson seems to think they grow on trees and will magically save huge amounts of CO2 emissions. Andy Palmer (he who brought the NIssan Leaf to market) admitted on GB News (Farage) a couple of weeks ago that EV’s will only have a wholelife reduction in emissions after 5 years/50K miles. He was very balanced and realistic in his statements on rare earths and batteries. BUT then he is an excellent engineer. Too many of those making decisions are arts grads who believe in Unicorns.

Not only Unicorns but Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny.
The Father is code for “only those who are good” and the last is code for subsidies for renewables companies they have shares in.

So, she is admitting to us the world is fine as it is. Well we all knew that anyway despite her irrelevant input. .

Legislation is a polite word for coercion. People should be forced to do what I want based on my view of what is beautiful.

      Hmm.

The odd thing about these calls is that people don’t recognise their own subjective solipsitic assumptions about the planet. The Earth isn’t “beautiful ” for our sake. It won’t be “ugly” if it changes. Thinking we should have more butterflies and fewer mosquitos is a wholly human viewpoint, not the view of nature of Gaia or the planet. And what we see now is a snapshot of the planet. It’s been entirely different for virtually all of the last 3 billion years with far more life extinct than now exists. In 1 million years – no time at all to get planet – we will be gone and it will be whatever it is. Lumbers claims are childish and silly.

The trip may make sense, if rich, using a private jet and no serious work. Otherwise, it’s just a waste of time and money. In this case, she is old enough her age can be an issue …

Personally, before the virus insanity, I used to do trips to southern Europe, each not shorter than two weeks, usually three. Just to get away for awhile from the craziness up north. That has now leveled out and increased …

Will someone please explain to JL that if she had her wish and we all stopped eating meat there would be no milk as cows would be redundant – as would be there offspring.

It is worse than that. If there are no livestock grazing in our beautiful countryside then the land will return to being unkempt and derelict with a massive loss of species that have evolved to live on farmland.

Trusting there’ll be 100% Wartime Rationing menus for *everyone* visiting COP26, to demonstrate *their* committment to tackling Climate Change.

    • October 27, 2021 10:59 am

Sounds like many looking to attend COP26 will have 3rd world conditions anyway, with nowhere to stay and transport disrupted. Tents & horses anyone? Such delicious irony 🙂

Another celebrity that thinks she knows all about it! Can someone please tell her that she’s calling for a ‘Social Credit’ system that will subjectively discriminate against people for none other than reasons of subjective and false belief, exactly what we fought WW2 to stop.

Rationing just means that those with “money & connections” can avoid it, whilst ordinary citizens will be fully impacted. Being told what to do by an ageing jet setter who has wandered round the globe on full expenses for her TV shows just shows the hypocrisy of these people. How dare they lecture us!!

She sounds like a female Capt. Mainwaring – Cpl. Jones and Pvt. Walker waiting in the wings ready to answer the call. But butchers not required by Capt. Lumley. Plenty of scope for Walker and the emerging black market.

Before rationing could be introduced in WW2 everyone had to be identified and given a number via the 1939 Register or they wouldn’t eat. This is why we must resist vaxx passes at all costs. Once we have signed in they have us and we will have to gain permission to buy that bottle of whisky, as Ms Lumley suggests, in case we have already exceeded our approved alcohol consumption level for the year.

I am impressed, qualified in Climatology with an excellent understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics as well as statistical awareness particularly the concept of “Null Hypothesis” and complex regression analysis. I always fancied her and now she is a Polymath as well! My ideal woman. I can imagine her and Emma Thompson having deep discussions on the role of clouds on global temperatures at the next luvvies shindig.

Dear Ms Lumley as good as your campaign for the Gurkas was on this topic you are way off the mark.
Meat and flying are not such big problems, I contend that the fashion industry is.
Every year the fashion industry encourages millions of people to change their cloths, footwear, make-up and much more. So much of these item have no additional functionally over the previous years versions, and the vast majority are manufactured using fossil fuels, and will end-up causing more pollution as they degrade in landfill sites.
Thus I propose that Legislation be enacted to stop the useless creation of fashion items — from hair dye and make-up to cloths and footwear. Only functional versions of these items need be manufactured.
I agree with your sentiment that a new era of puritanism (and less frivolity) is needed in all our lives, we need more killjoy messages such as yours to remind us. 😉 🙂

Yes – I sort-of remember the ‘utility’ clothes and furniture of WW2 and the years after. Once I had my own bedroom in 1948, I had a plywood ‘utility’ wardrobe, that I put my foot through in a moment of adolescent anger. I also remember the lack of variety in food, and the crummy implementation of the NHS (which is why I have bad eyesight and false teeth today).
Well, as far as I read, the NHS is little better than it was, but I doubt that Britain would want to go back to the privations of the 1940’s! ESPECIALLY because it’s not necessary – the ‘climate change’ panic is a scam!

      • October 30, 2021 1:27 pm

She is too young, in her 70s, to remember personally the details of WW2 and after’ s privations!

I like Joanna Lumley. She’s only a year younger than me. In AbFab she showed her skill as a comedienne. Has anybody considered that, in the reported comments, she might actually have been taking the piss out of the climate change brigade. After all, her AbFab persona was all about drink and ‘free’ travel, and excess. In other words, it was all a joke, but the self-righteous protesters cannot see it.

As I see it, we need more of this straight-faced piss-taking as an antidote to the ‘net zeroes’.

‘Has anybody considered that…she might actually have been taking the piss out of the climate change brigade?’

Yes, and she wasn’t Bill. Unless you take the piss out of eco loons by giving them money. Caroline Lucas and the Green Party have been former financial beneficiaries of her ‘sarcasm’. As much as anyone here can admire JL for her brilliant comedic and acting skills and, indeed, her support for the Gurkhas, she’s very much on the Prince Charles end of the scale of climate change skepticism. And there isn’t a lot of humour there unfortunately!

The people who enjoyed Ab Fab. were the people who liked the high life saying there but for the grace. Fast cars, booze, parties ect ect. Not the sort who would glue themselves to a motorway. I believe that she has just lost her fan base. But who cares as long as there is plenty of Bolly.

  18. October 27, 2021 6:33 pm

Well it’s alright for her! All she has to do is ensconce herself in the local Bottoms Up and imbibe into oblivion.

John Humphries was suggesting that the government purchase Thermal vests for everyone so they can keep the heating turned down. If it is really getting warmer, why would that be necessary. I am still awaiting the Mediterranean Climate we were promised in 2005. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4091068.stm

I’m all in favour of certain types of rationing, e.g. on the number of celebrities that can tell the rest of how to live, the number of blatantly false articles the BBC can publish each month, the amount of money the government can spend on net zero etc.
