Glasgow Airport Threatened By 26 Feet Sea Level Rise
By Paul Homewood
I expect this reporter also thinks there are fairies at the bottom of the garden!
Glasgow airport, where world leaders will land to attend the Cop26 climate change conference, risks sinking into the sea because of global warming, sustainability experts have warned.
The chances of the airport being caught out by rising sea levels will be significantly increased by 2050, according to the analysis by S&P.
Analysts looked at the threat of wildfire, coldwave, heatwave, water stress, flood, and rising sea levels.
The airport scored 70 out of a maximum 100 in terms of risk exposure by 2050 in total.
The biggest jump would be the threat of rising sea levels, which will increase from 3 in 2020 to 43 in 2050. The threat of a heatwave was just 15, however.
Steve Bullock, of S&P Global Sustainable1, said: “Cop26 in Glasgow will see world leaders and CEOs from across the business and investment community arriving into Glasgow airport, and it may not seem an obvious step to look to a future where sea level rises could present a significant risk to this location. However, the data tells us a different story.
“When we look at a global picture of flights cancelled and disrupted this year due to extreme weather-related hazards, it reinforces that it is vital to look to evidence-based insights and advanced analytics to support adaptation strategies to mitigate the exposure to these risks before they are realized.”

I don’t know who is worst. The idiots from S&P, who wrote this drivel, or Oliver Gill, Chief Business Correspondent for believing it.
Can readers have faith anymore in any business reporting in the Telegraph, if this is the quality of their journalism? It would only have taken a minute for Gill to check the altitude at Glasgow Airport, which is 8m:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_Airport
Even using the most absurd projections, sea levels will only have risen by a few inches by 2050.
As for heatwaves, Glaswegians must be falling around laughing, given the record temperature is just 89F. The vast majority of cancelled flights there are due to snow and ice.
As for S&P, they claim to offer clients “in depth market intelligence”. Investors would be better advised to go to the local kindergarten, if that’s the best they can do.

L.O.L. Will it never end?
Ron , I do think that the propaganda is getting far more ridiculous leading up to this Greenfest .
So I have been using a bit of common sense against any of the claptrap that has been coming out .
The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is just 413 Parts per million . About 97% of that occurs naturally , Of all of the human produced CO2 , just 1% is from the UK .
So you finish up with just 1 part in 10,000,000 which is UK produced CO2..And anybody who believes that that tiny amount can have any effect on the climate is ignorant or deliberately lying .
I wish it were this simple but the annual increase in CO2 is a lot less than our emissions so it is a complex argument that we do not cause the increase.
David , I was talking about UK CO2 emissions . Which at 1 part per 10,000,000 , is about 30 or 40 times less than the annual atmosphere rise , which is about 3 or 4 parts per million .
Sorry, I took your 97% to refer to the increase. But given that the half life residence time of our emitted molecules is just 3 years or so, because of that huge natural flux, it is the case that the increase is not a build up of our emissions. My view is that the cause of the increase, including our role, is still unknown.
There is a yearly natural flux of about 8 parts per million , which I believe is caused by seasons . Hot weather in Northern Hemisphere , more trees growing , absorbing more CO2 , at the same time cold weather in Southern Hemisphere , more ocean area to absorb CO2 .
This reverses in Winter / Summer time causing the flux .
There is no doubt that most CO2 in the atmosphere occurs naturally , [ about 97% ].
And the recent lockdown proved that human caused CO2 is such a tiny part of it as to be insignificant .
They offer clients “in depth market intelligence” ! What intelligence ??
The dis-numerate t**s can’t tell difference between 26mm 26ft
Why are ~30,000 at Flop 26 ?? …
to arrange time, place & menus for Flop 27
Telegraph is just toeing the climate change line, it is going the way of the guardian. I notice my generally critical comments get the “likes” knocked back, however they do not get deleted like the guardian. I suppose they have to keep the advertisers happy, lot of money in feel good adverts these days.
They offer NET Zero Intelligence! 🙂
The current Spectator video about COP26, on YT, is just as bad, if not worse: it needs a health warning, so I haven’t provided a link!
Surely not fairies at the bottom of the garden IF it is going to be flooded, rather water babies?
As for sea level rise, Australia is a stable tectonic bit of real estate, and sea levels in Sydney Harbor are close to what they were around 1911. There has been slight fluctuations over the past century but no trend. With the north of the UK supposedly rebounding from the loss of the last ice sheet and rising slowly (as also noticeable in southen Sweden) it is far more likely that Glasgow airport may rise a few inches.
This exactly the type of nonsense that is driving the absurdly one sided CC ‘debate; with few daring to challenge for fear of being vilified the eco-loons.
When the Suez & Panama canals which have very accurate tide guages that have not altered since they were constructed indicate otherwise,
this claptrap may make sense!
‘CHIEF Business Correspondent?’ Appointed by Daddy, no doubt.
It also seems odd to think of Glasgow ‘sinking’ if seas are rising. It’s one or the other.
It is impossible to have a data record of future events.
Climate modellers don’t seem aware of that.
Could someone explain to me how an entire airport could sink? and if it did surely there would be a good case against the builder/developer of that airport?
Reminds me of Rowan Atkinsons ‘sermon’ in the Secret policemans ball
Makes you wonder how Amsterdam Schipol manages to be Europe’s largest airport and is 3 metres BELOW current sea level! sarcasm…..
It makes you wonder how the Maldives have constructed 5 new airports when the islands sank years ago according to ‘settled’ science …zzzzzz
Was the highly qualified climate author thinking, there has been some floods in Scotland recently, so this will strike a chord with them. What utter rubbish. The climate alarmists are whipping themselves into a frenzy. Now High Priestess Greta has arrived, what a week of nonsense we’re in for.
The actual runway at Glasgow is at an elevation of 8M by the way, not too sure about the buildings.
Be sure to check out the antidote to this climate witchery at the Climate Reality Forum, also in Glasgow this week: https://climaterealityforum.com/
Two weeks of nonsense.
Glasgow has two airports – Glasgow Prestwick and Glasgow Airport. The latter is a wee bit low-lying. But still a good metre or two above HAT.
Anyway, they’re planning a second runway. They could just make it a bit higher if necessary. Or just make a dyke/levee/bund.
Even if sea-level rise WAS a factor (which it isn’t), BAA have the money and skill resources to overcome it.
BAA doesn’t really exist any more and hasn’t owned Glasgow Airport for quite a few years now.
Planet Earth has been Warming since the lowest point of the ‘Little Ice Age’ in 1750 (Pre-Industrial Times). The 21st century has been the ‘Warmest on Record’. Glaciers in Greenland and the whole Northern Hemisphere are melting faster today than at any time since record keeping began, 16 million, billion tones since 1985. All these ‘Facts Are True’. What is missing from the Scientific discussion is the role of Nature. Why have all the interrelated moving parts including the chemistry and the physical dynamics of Water and Ice and their effect on Sub-Ocean plate tectonics been left out of the discussion?
Fact – Manmade CO2 represents 3% of total annual inputs to our Global Climate. Nature is responsible for 97% of Annual inputs of CO2 in our Global Climate. A 1% increase in natural CO2 of .97%, is 3 times more than a 10% increase in Man-Made inputs or .3%. That same 1% increase from Nature is 16 times more than the 20% reduction or .6% proposed by the Paris Accord. Clearly, context is absent from the discussion surrounding Global Climate Change and the fact that Planet Earth is Warming. Nature’s historic role and the magnitude of that role, in context, is missing from the analysis in our current narrative on Climate Change. This data is drawn from IPCC graphs of ‘CO2 emissions in the 1990’s’.
Jim, the role of nature is completely obscured and ignored. Just that single fact, the lack of even lip service about it, certainly the lack of due diligence to demonstrate that it has no effect shows clearly that science has no places in this charade. It is just a throw away term used by ignoramuses like the cabbage patch doll look alike from East of Norway to impress people equally as ignorant as she is. I remember both Freeman Dyson and Will Happer both put the maximum effect of man at below 5% with a massive error margin equal to that number.
I was once a sinful frequent flyer for business and used Glasgow Airport dozens of times
Paisley closed due to snow all too frequently and getting diverted to Prestwick , which due to its position on the West Coast never got snowed off.
This was a chore, as you got a magnificent view of the Isle of Arran but you couldn’t get to Glasgow as all other means of Transport were snowed off as well.
Closures for snow happened from November through to middle of May, eventually they invested in really effective snow clearing equipment to keep runways clear, but de-icing the planes then became the issue and off we all went to Prestwick again.
Frequent flyer actually means frequently frustrated.
Glasgow used to be, by a very long chalk indeed, Scotland’s busiest airport. I imagine all those closures and delays are one reason the the mantle has now been taken by Edinburgh (until about 20 years ago, most Glaswegians didn’t even know Edinburgh had an airport). Being on the west of the city, close to the M8 motorway and the railway line, it’s arguably more convenient for its neighbour than Prestwick.

How can Glasgow Airport be 70 out of 100? And 100 what? By 2050 Glasgow would be like maybe Bordeaux now at worst. Far too many people have entirely switched off their brains.
Yet another reason I cancelled my Telegraph subscription after 40 years.
Direct democracy. Vote with your feet folks!
The pandemic is not performing as was expected by the “vaccine is the answer” worldwide medical paradigm. Politicians just make things worse. Better treatment is in a poor 2nd place, but that was the answer to AIDS not vaccines.
It reminds us that consensus is often wrong and I am beginning to get concerned that the ill advised rush of Boris to get us all jabbed, with a type of vaccine not used any more because it is dangerous, is now causing problems.
The experts have always known there were risks with this rush, but anybody who raised justified concerns was labelled a denier.

This is worth a view: https://www.canadiancovidcarealliance.org/media-resources/dr-rochagne-kilian-blowing-the-whistle-on-covid-19-vaccines-and-d-dimer-levels/
“sustainability experts”? I have had conversations with several people who use that word. Most of them surprise surprise do not know what it means. It is a weasel term like all the other weasel terms that the climate make believe world has adopted. Aren’t those people who guarantee supply change? Since when did they muscle in on the sea level fear mongering business? Not enough gravy in doing an almost real job?
You just cannot make this stuff up. They make no pretence anymore that they are making it up hence the outrageous religious piece about St Greta of section 8 provided by the BBC, ” News you can trust” yesterday.
Who needs Glasgow Airport anyway? Probably needs a good wash!
2 things come out of this for me apart from the obvious rubbish which the article relies on,
The first is why is this journalist still employed within the industry. He could not have checked any of the assertions made as they can readily and quickly be dismissed by a couple of back of the fag packet calculations. It is also obvious that he has not followed good practice by checking the info from other sources.
The other thing is, if this is the quality of the research coming out os S&P, why would anybody entrust them with their investments and savings. An absolutely shoddy and biased piece of work.
I live about two miles from Glasgow Airport and this ‘flooded by the sea’ drivel confirms the alarmist nonsense and lies put out there to scare the gullible into accepting the end of their current lifestyles and the replacement of a free-market economy with what is essentially a consumerist version of communism – like China, but without any proper manufacturing jobs.
Thank you so much Paul for highlighting these things. Christopher Booker would be proud that you carry the torch of truth…
Worth reposting this here. The chart shows the average tide gauge readings at Millport at the mouth of the Clyde estuary. To my eye there is little sign of a trend.
26ft how very precise of the Ex perts, we used to call them drips under pressure, well we will have a whole lot of them at the Cop26 circus.
Oh dear, the green mist has definitely descended
What do the folk of the Blackcountry think of COP26 Doreen Tipton share her thoughts in this video.
.
Thank you for that amazing Video !!
Electric Cars . . .
31 % is Lost getting Electricity from Power Plant to Electric Motor
Let’s Calculate Total Input Factors for Electricity Starting at Production
All Power Plants use a Thermodynamic Cycle – The Efficiencies are about 35%
Coal, Diesel, Nuclear, Natural Gas, and Bio Fuel . . . That is 81% of all Electricity
31 % of that power is Lost as Heat During Transmission and Charging 35% x 31% = 10.85 %
35 % – 10.85% = 24.15% of gross potential Goes to the Wheels of the Electric Motor
Gas Powered Vehicles after Burning fuels have the full 35 % going to the Wheels
Electric Cars – 31 % . . . is Heat loss . . . from Transmission and Charging
Therefore . . . Electric Vehicles burn 31 % more Energy per Kilometer Driven
Sorry Gretta . . . you have been Had . . .

More likely to disappear under 26′ of uncollected rubbish in the socialist republic of Jockland.
Reader BTL comments were a torrent of abuse towards Gill, the Telegraph and the general principles being traduce by such a batsh*t crazy ‘study’.
The article went from headline to Business byline story in no time!
Schiphol airport has been ‘under water’ for some time. It is only ingenuity, enterprise and endeavour that keeps it dry.
‘Glasgow Airport Threatened By 26 Feet Sea Level Rise’
So move it. Duh. You’ve got 30 #%$@ing years. Are these people children?
No one can forecast with absolute certainty what the weather will be in 7 days time, yet these bungholes are kidding the world that they can tell us what the weather is going to be in 29 years time. How do they do it?
