George Soros joins up with the the Club of Rome to push the global equity agenda:
For the European Green Deal to succeed, the EU must foster sustainable economic systems and societal wellbeing across the planet. Positive system change is essential to avoid climate and environmental disaster, and the best chance of making it happen is through serious implementation of the European Green Deal (EGD) and the Sustainable Development Goals. But the EU cannot achieve sustainability on just one continent, given the web of interdependencies in the globalised economy. Decarbonisation and dematerialisation of wealthy economies will have profound effects in other regions, requiring Europe to reimagine most of its trade relationships and create more equal partnerships.
Current debates on EGD implementation hardly consider its global implications. A new report, International System Change Compass: The Global Implications of Achieving the European Green Deal, takes up that task. It unpacks the global interdependencies affected by EGD implementation; points to the collaborative efforts needed to foster sustainable economic systems, mitigate negative cross-border spill-overs, and maximize societal wellbeing; suggests how the EU could channel the investments that will be needed to help many countries on their paths to sustainability; and considers how the EU can maintain productive industry at home whilst enabling a just transition globally. At the heart of the report is the realisation that the success of the European transition is inseparably linked to the global transition.
As well as Soros, other backers include Adair Turner, David King, Nicholas Stern, all in the SYSTEMIQ lineup.

Be very careful with these obesity and overweight claims. BMI is entirely arbitrary. It is not based on health outcomes. The Obesity Paradox – where higher BMIs survive serious health issues and live longer – has been known about for decades, yet still public health bodies lower the BMIs to increase the numbers.bers deemed obese. Only a few years ago, childhood obesity increased dramatically simply because the BMI deemed obese was substantially lowered. We now have the bizarre situation where at 18, then of thousands suddenly stop being obese! Many of the health clains about obesity are forecasts, not reality. Yes phoenix. BMI is a garbage measure that just measures weight related to height. This is obviously silly as it doesnt reflect bone or skelatal or muscle mass. It was also devised by narrow shouldered ectomorphs. So if you have broad shouldesr or more muscle you get an overweight reading. It lists most olympic sprinters as overweight because its based on the Mo Farah build. BMI needs replacing with something vaguely scientific.
Perhaps this would be an opportune point to restate that the intention of Net Zero or whatever it’s called this year has nothing at all to do with the climate and everything to do with destroying Western civilisation.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added:
“This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”

Turner has been chairman of Soros Institute for New Economic Thinking for several years and is currently a “Senior Fellow”.
Stern’s HoL register of interests says he is on the advisory board of Generation Investment Management, Al Gore’s outfit.
King was the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change from 2013 to 2017. Who was Foreign Secretary? From 2016 to 2018, it was a certain Boris Johnson.
King was the founding Chair of Independent SAGE, pushing for ever tighter lockdown. For some reason he is Senior Strategy Adviser to the President of Rwanda. He’s either an Arsenal supporter, or he came up with the idea of getting some British dosh to Rwanda under the guise of the boat people to Rwanda idea.

Figueres is based in London these days so it’s easy to pop round for tea and cakes. She was dripping in Theresa May’s ear before she had her epiphany on Net Zero.
She has been in this game for a long time, before she became UNFCC exec sec she was a colleague of Lord Stern in a “carbon” trading company, she worked for other “carbon” trading companies before that.

What I cannot fathom is that people like Soros and the others named in that cabal will not live to even see the start of their

Wealthy economies exist in countries created to protect wealthy economies. They are going to have to do a lot better than Climate Change! to get people to give up their prosperity.

He visualised the best way to accomplish the goal was to collapse Western societies was by creating mass hysteria proselytized by the willing dupes in our education system that CO2 is going to destroy the world because allegedly it will cause the temperature to go up 3*C.
The politics behind the IPCC is not about Climate according to the UN policy makers – is is all about redistribution of wealth which is a necessary step to realize Strong’s dream. The IPCC has admitted that Climate is not a problem, but, is a tool to be used for redistribution of our wealth through taxation of carbon as a start.

No transition can be made without using fossil fuels for transportation. That’s the basic flaw in any attempt to mitigate the Earth’s climate. Solar and wind “farms”, electric vehicle factories, nuclear plants, even carbon capture facilities, don’t just pop up like mushrooms. Energy is needed to move people, food and all of the materials needed. It’s not complicated.
I have a suspicion that the total lifetime fossil fuel usage of a wind turbine exceeds the equivalent fossil fuel “saving” the turbine creates (i.e. the gas it would require to generate the equivalent electricity the turbine produces) once you include everything from mining to disposal. They are negative energy effectively.
I would agree. The energy density of solar and wind is insufficient to be able to power its own production. That’s the fatal flaw of the 100% renewables hypothesis. It’s just not ‘sustainable’.

I seem to have been fighting these people’s ideas all my adult life. My very first job entailed subjecting parts of the original Club of Rome model and report to critical examination. The conclusion was it was alarmist nonsense in shorthad. In those days I had little idea of their motives, but I already had plenty of idea of life under Communism, at least in Soviet Russia.
Prof Wilf Beckermann was one of the strongest voices against Limits to Growth, but his book, In Defence of Economic Growth, is now largely airbrushed from existence gaining no mention in his obituaries (he died in April 2020). We need sane voices like his ot help defend us.

Much of these three countries are as poor as door-mice anyway, so what’s their motivation to be de-democratised (specifically, India, the largest democracy in the world)?

People are now faced with the stark reality that ‘going green’ comes with enormous cost and disruption to traditional life and, as much as they all claim to be planet savers they know its unaffordable. NetZero and The Green New Deal are now becoming hot political potatoes and voices of dissent from the ‘back benches’ are becoming louder as the winds of change blow politicians off the fence.
Paul. A point to note from the recent local elections. In Northern Ireland Assembly election results, the Northern Ireland Green Party who had only 2 seats in the NI assembly, in last Thursdays voting they lost both their seats. The leader lost her seat in Belfast South and her colleague lost her seat in North Down. The candidates were Clare Bailey & Rachel Woods. Clare Bailey had been a huge advocate of Net Zero and wished the total death knell for the agricultural industry in NI. Totally insane and non evidential policy proposals. They were advocating laws to reduce dairy and animal farming in NI. The sensible voters gave them the two fingered response they deserved.
