Christian Aid Demand Climate Justice
By Paul Homewood
Christian Aid have been spreading more despicable lies:
By every measure the Third World is much better off than it ever used to be, and this has only been made possible thanks to global economic growth resulting from fossil fuels.
For example, life expectancy began rising in the 1920s, and has carried on rising since:
https://ourworldindata.org/life-expectancy
Child mortality is half what it was just thirty years ago:
https://ourworldindata.org/child-mortality
Many more now have access to clean water:
https://ourworldindata.org/water-access
Food production has rocketed:
https://ourworldindata.org/crop-yields
And poverty levels have fallen sharply:
https://ourworldindata.org/poverty
Africans nowadays have standards of living which their ancestors could not have dreamt of:
https://ourworldindata.org/economic-growth
Does Christian Aid think any of this would have been possible without fossil fuels?
Or would they prefer that the peoples of Africa and the rest of the Third World lived as their grandparents did a few decades ago?

As Christiana Figueres revealed , climate change policy is not about the climate , it’s about redistribution . It’s ALL about the money , money , money ….
Christian Aid wrong as ever, the lack of affordable energy caused by the eco-loon death cultists is the greatest threat to poor people. The answer to your last point is YES! they would prefer poor people to stay that way.
Their desire for the polluter to pay means that they believe climate is man-made.
How odd. Where was the polluting population that caused the MWP? Or the Roman?
That being the case they must know exactly what is required to create an ideal climate. Problem is, they can’t define it, let alone figure out how to achieve it. But I bet they think that (other people’s) money is the way to go.
As an aside, my seven-year-old grandson comes home from school to tell me not to leave lights on or have a log-burner! That apart, he has been taught to – against all my tuition – to say, ‘haitch’!!!
Yes.
In the real world Africans say the priority is economic development.

‘Does Christian Aid think any of this would have been possible without fossil fuels?’
They might not say it, but they KNOW it wouldn’t have been possible. They’re not THAT stupid.
BUT…
‘would they prefer that the peoples of Africa and the rest of the Third World lived as their grandparents did a few decades ago?’
Of course they would. Without creating ‘victims’, what’s their purpose in life? Especially as ‘victimhood’ is key to a self-sustaining career nowadays. Raise up the ‘victims’ but only just as far as necessary to ensure their own continued involvement (or hindrance).
If they were as ‘Christian’ as they claim, wouldn’t they want people to be happily self-sufficient to sustain and continue the proven improvements ? Their own Bible says that their God made the Earth for humans. I must have missed the bit that said ‘It’s all yours ~ except for the hydrocarbons.’
But then again ~ as with most religion ~ it’s all a bit pick’n’mix from their chosen version of the Book to suit their own agenda & make up the rest.
And no, I don’t miss the irony of my comments considering my own surname!
Most if not all NGOs that offer aid make life worse for those they ‘aid’. But then since they are made up of leftie virtue-signallers unable to do a real job.
If they were bona fide Christians, they would not LIE.
CA should FO!
Paul,
A good friend in my (UK) village is Christian Aid UK’s Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement. Unfortunately, I know he believes in this stuff, so not sure how I break this to him.
Present him with the facts, showing his organisation are lying in the pursuit of people’s money. A printout of this comments trail might be a good starting point!
The other side of the coin is also a problem, the relentless propaganda that the world CAN do without fossil fuels, an idea NEVER questioned in the MSM.

Try this:
This calculation uses only internationally recognised, factual data.
Assuming increasing atmospheric CO2 is causing the planet to warm:
Atmospheric CO2 levels in 1850 (beginning of the Industrial Revolution): ~280ppm (parts per million atmospheric content) (Vostok Ice Core).
Atmospheric CO2 level in 2021: ~410ppm. (Mauna Loa)
410ppm minus 280ppm = 130ppm ÷ 171 years (2021 minus 1850) = 0.76ppm of which man is responsible for ~3% = ~0.02ppm.
That’s every human on the planet and every industrial process adding ~0.02ppm CO2 to the atmosphere per year on average. At that rate mankind’s CO2 contribution would take ~25,000 years to double which, the IPCC states, would cause around 2°C of temperature rise. That’s ~0.0001°C increase per year for ~25,000 years.
I saved it to my phone and showed it to a friend of mine who is a dyed in the wool alarmist and for once he had nothing to say. You can change the 3% to 50% if you want and it’s still over 1,000 years.
Off topic. I heard the following comment recently.
I tried to follow the science but it wasn’t there. I followed the money and found the science
Socialists and do gooders will always keep poor people poor otherwise their raison d’etre would vanish.
Exactly the same for all religions.
I wonder if it would be a good idea to have some kind of official body to look at the various stunts pulled by UK Charities and check that they were (a) feasible and (b) might promote the alleged aims of the Charity. For example, they might wish to upbraid Oxfam (once the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief but whose schemes now seem to be specifically intended to spread Global Famine).
I see nothing very Christian or much Aiding anyone but global elites in this latest scam.
They could call such a superintending body “The Charity Commission.”
Oh, wait…
Christian Aid are just another in a long line of organisations trying to trip the guilt switch of naive people to feather their own nest. Foreign aid was best described as “The transfer of money from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries”
Few will now read this, but I couldn’t avoid a wry smile at this advice today from a Tour Operator:-
“Cambodia is a poor country and it is a natural response for international visitors to want to help whilst travelling in the country.
Often tourists are encouraged to visit orphanages and make a donation to support the children. In recent years the number of tourists visiting orphanages has led to an alarming increase in these institutions in Cambodia. In reality the number of genuine orphans in Cambodia has actually declined and 74% of the children in care in Cambodia are not orphans at all but have at least one living relative.
Orphanages are seen as money making businesses and children are being taken into care to pose as orphans – often kept in squalor to encourage visitors to donate more. International organizations including Unicef and Friends International are now campaigning to stop this phenomenon by asking people not to visit orphanages, even legitimate ones. In compliance with this, [Tour Operator] actively discourages any visits to orphanages.”
Gosh. I’m constantly surprised at the amount of surprising news. Who knew?
The trouble with all of these climate do-gooder types is that they know only to well what they don’t want, but, they don’t know what they do want!
OT – another rant from Rowlatt on the BBC needs yor attention – warming will cause a major health problem!
Christian Aid are simply socialists and have been since the charity was set up. The climate nonsense is just their latest excuse for pushing their debunked politics on poor people.
Population of Somalia has increased 6 TIMES in the last 60 years. Population of Yemen has increased 4 TIMES. Say no more.
More and more we see references to so-called CO2 pollution, but they don’t seem to realise that we need the stuff, and it has in fact helped raise crop yields in these poorer countries. It’s just lazy thinking.
Which comes first? Lazy thinking or crass stupidity? Or maybe it’s just a very poor memory; forgetting all those lessons on photosynthesis from GCSE Biology classes?
Not a single country has suffered a weather event that it has not had many times in the past. There remains no evidence that extreme weather events are more frequent or more intense because of climate change. On the other hand, economic growth, reliant on fossil fuels, that has lessened the impact of weather on the developing world.
So it is undeniable that Christian Aid are simply claiming the opposite of truth.
The great Greta Thunberg was given half an hour’s adulation on BBC Woman’s Hour yesterday. Wonderful command of idiomatic English. One little rugosity – she seemed to praise Africa for emitting so little CO2. Didn’t get asked about the billion or more without electricity who are busily burning up her ‘collapsing ecosystems’ in order to live. But her interlocutor was an ignorant BBC apparatchik of course.
Ach got that wrong sorry. Not Thunberg but Vanessa Nakata from Kenya but deploring the fossil fuelled prosperity increase in Africa
Christian Aid, I assume, is just another big sock-puppet charity getting much or most of its funding from the state, and promoting the state’s propaganda in return. No doubt all the senior executives are very well rewarded.
The number of such outfits has increased, is increasing, and ought to be diminished.
Yes, it would be interesting to dig into their finances. Before I moved there used to be a regular donation envelope delivered for Christian Aid Week.
As a Christian sorry for the false witness that Christian Aid are presenting. The Bible is clear that God is control of the climate/weather not man. Unfortunately the green propaganda is working/has worked too well.
