BBC have been up to their tricks again:

Joe Public has caught the BBC out again.

He immediately recognised that this image included in a BBC report on Sunday was fake, and that they had been used it before.

The image had been photoshopped from the original below:

Following Joe’s complaint, the BBC have now replaced their fake image, and issued a correction:

But as usual, their readers have already gone away with the misleading picture, and are unlikely to see the apology.

An important development; the complaint has introduced the BBC policy of “concept”, which they have admitted to be false in the example of this picture, thus needing a correction. We can now apply this precedent to any other BBC output in, and of itself, the nature of “concept”, thereby making a demand for correction, when demonstrably false, unavoidable.
Or we can just say more BBC biased bollux, QED

Can we all start playing the concept game ? Not only the BBC and the soviet union with their airbrushing ? How about the concept of weather forecasts that don’t have unprecedented and record breaking weather events ? Or would that be a concept to far…..

BBC: putting the *con* in concept.

You get plenty of fake news about Russia and can’t do anything about it. Not allowed to complain ,I expect. Never mind BBC look at all the other “news outlet” available to the United Kingdom Australia and the United States.. The Soviet Union broke up many years ago except in the minds of journalists.
New Zealand now is able to compare reports.

    Gotta love it!

It’s not a totally fake Photoshopped image that is a complete lie for banal political and economic purposes.

    It’s a “concept image”.

Proof, if it were needed of the saying “Is that true or did you hear/see it on the BBC?”.

BBC, just an appalling outfit of propaganda, the latest DG full of bluster and wind, the whole Corporation with net zero integrity!

It’s OK: “concept images” are “their truth” so that’s alright then. Now where did we hear those words recently?

A “concept picture” claims the BBC. Presumably that is their new term for a lie.

Two things: If a lie is now only a concept then I suggest we accuse BBC of conceptualising as much as we like without fear of prosecution (imagine Paul complaining to BBC again and asking them: ‘Was that a lie or a conceptualisation?’).
Also, having owned up to it, why haven’t they splashed this all over their eco-programming and children’s programs – as an example of what a lie is?

Credit also to Stew Green, who caught out the BBC using that fake image last year.

The BBC didn’t make up the term “concept image”
They probably got it off me last year when I pointed out the image and series was labelled that way in the Getty Image library

Yes they used the fake image, even though I’d told the reporter it was fake 10 months ago (March 5th .. March 25th)
Last year I expected BBC would brush off a formal complaint as usual
The original March 2022 thread started with Bishop Hill asking if it was fake
      and me running the checks
Then I tweeted the reporter twice. She must have seen that, cos she normally gets very few replies.

This week Joe put in a complaint and for once he got a quick and proper apology
but note how the BBC had to be pushed each step

Lying in in a “good cause”…… where are the heads rolling because of this? The latest DG is just an empty shirt to allow the marxists more time to complete their job

The Bbc are masters at creating concerns over nothing. Here is the bbc weather forecast for tomorrow for our area. Looks like a pleasant day. Can anyone see a reason for a weather warning

This is why there has to be an enforceable law, with penalties that hurt, against deception and dishonesty, in any way. Lying is not OK but we all accept it and say nothing.

The image is still in the video itself, along with 2 or 3 others that also might be ‘conceptual’ by the looks of it.

Yep I just noticed that as I noted below. The Seal one is clearly fake beyond any shadow of a doubt. I am also complaining about those on the grounds of if they admit the headline photo is fake allowing the continued use in the clip means they are deliberately even more culpable or just plain effing thick.

Two things come to mind, firstly I shall cancel my direct debit to the BBC and simply lie to them that I do not watch programmes from any source for which a license is required to watch. Lying is apparently okay with them so they will obviously believe me. Perhaps everyone should lie like this and see how they like it.
Secondly watching the clip it still shows the fake photo and some of the others look equally fabricated so in reality the deceits are still there whether they “deny” them or not.
The BBC has a terminal illness – the sooner it dies the better for the rest of us.

Remembe the spoof (‘genuine’) “lemmings rush to death” programme. They didn’t show the BBC staff using brooms to hurry the lemmings over the cliff…

The BBC have basically arm waved away a lie (again).

A “concept picture” would be where they photoshop the image but tell you that.

When they don’t tell you its a lie and the only conclusion is that underlying it is an intent to mislead.

It now begs the question how many other images that the BBC use does this apply to?

  20. January 19, 2023 10:59 am

On one of the odd occasions that David Attenborough was unbiased, wandered from the script’s impositions (you probably have to devote a certain amount of any programme to some sort of climate related stuff by diktat) he related the fact that creatures in the oceans (great watery deserts) make great use of floating debris for protection and breeding. You would think that zealous young technicians would not want to be complicit in such engineering. So focused on the truth boils down to a version of the truth. Who will speak the truth to power? How corrupting the Net Zero debate has become.

Isn’t there a copyright issue here? If they used the original picture , acknowledging the source – fine. But if they add to the image and still claim that it was from the original source , have they not committed an offence against the Copyright Act , unless of course the original copyright holder is OK with the deception . ( I am assuming of course that the original image is not in the public domain , and free for anyone to monkey with if they so desire).
Not a lawyer so I maybe talking nonsense , but I got the impression that a few years ago writers, artists, photographers were very concerned with strengthening the copyright rules to protect their work and income, understandably given the digital manipulations now available , as the BBC has just shown. Bit ironic when the BBC is so keen on protecting its own copyrights.

Presumably the photographer Jakub Gojda sold the rights to his turtle image to Getty Images (and maybe other suppliers of stock images).

He or others may have ‘added’ the plastic bag.

The Beeb simply selects (& presumably pays for) images that fit its agenda.

It’s inconceivable that Getty and other reputable stock-mage suppliers do not label their images with full details of what is represented.

UPDATE: At 16:40 this afternoon, in response to my yesterday’s further complaint, the BBC advised:

“We wouldn’t remove an entire video for the sake of one picture, although we this afternoon replaced this picture within the video.

Please accept our apologies once again for the oversight and thank you again for bringing this matter to our attention.”

However, the BBC’s addendum makes no mention of its further necessary action.

  23. January 20, 2023 11:47 am

I believe this other image is a genuine INSIDE BBC photoshop job
cos it’s been doctored from the image library version
