Maybe Greta would like to come to Sheffield and campaign against our wind farms which also frighten the animals and disrupt age-old traditions!!

Greta Thunberg has been taking part in a five-day protest blocking the entrance to Norway’s energy ministry to protest against wind turbines.

Miss Thunberg was specifically demonstrating against wind turbines built on land traditionally used by indigenous Sami reindeer herders.

"Indigenous rights, human rights, must go hand-in-hand with climate protection and climate action. That can’t happen at the expense of some people. Then it is not climate justice," she said while sitting outside the ministry’s main entrance with other demonstrators.

Norway’s supreme court in 2021 ruled that two wind farms built in central Norway violated Sami rights under international conventions, but the turbines remain in operation more than 16 months later.

Reindeer herders in the Nordic country say the sight and sound of the giant wind power machinery frighten their animals and disrupt age-old traditions.

Ms Thunberg and a dozen other Sami demonstrators have occupied the ministry’s reception area since Thursday. Police forcibly removed them at around 1.30am on Monday and detained them before releasing them.

They returned to the ministry at around 6am.

Headline ” Multi millionaire nut job heiress in loony protest”
As David Starkey once put it, she is a figure of fun we would have once throw rotten vegetables at.

Maybe she be forced to walk naked through the streets while people throw excrement at her. Or whatever the punishment is in Game of Thrones that Clarkson got into trouble for suggesting should happen to Megan Markle.

‘Climate justice’ according to Greta-pixie: Sami reindeer herders got rights: birds, bats, whales, crustaceans, seals and the rest of you human plebs, not so much.

If only the Doom Goblin protested the Sami’s use of fossil-fuelled Skidoos etc that they depend upon in order to herd & petrify the reindeer.

    Her double-standards defy credibility.

There are numerous TV shows covering people “Living Off The Grid”. But everyone of those featured rely on something made from, or powered by, fossil fuels. This can be Skidoo’s & Quad Bikes (depending on the season), Ski & Float equipped aircraft (likewise), boats & barges – even the Alaska railroad! Those boasting about “Zero Utility Bills” have large plastic tanks to collect rainwater, solar panels & batteries, as well as propane powered refrigerators, freezers and cooking. “Traditional” log cabins now incorporate modern building products & sealants, all made from oil or gas. Even the handful of REAL off gridders need ammo to shoot their food…

I grew up “off grid”. No mains electricity, no mains gas, no mains water, no mains sewage no telephone.
But we had Calor Gas for lighting downstairs and for cooking on a two ring with grill. There was a Rayburn for heat, hot water and cooking. We burnt coal, wood and peat on the Rayburn and open fires. Definitely not fossil fuel free.

To see friends or catch a bus anywhere was a four mile cycle or walk. My education had a huge carbon footprint, the School Car (taxi) for 4 miles and 9 miles on a bus twice a day in term time. Probably a bigger footprint than all my class mates.

I have happy memories of living there but there’s no way I’d want to repeat the experience; it’s not all it’s cracked up to be when the choice belongs to somebody else.

This is what happens when you are a wet-behind-the-ears dweeb. You know nothing, but just follow the script handed you.

I am reminded of the opening of a song we sometimes sing in church: “When the music fades, And all is stripped away……”

It’s a bit Orwellian. Substitute ‘some animals being more equal than others’ with ‘some turbines are more renewable than others’. What’s Norway’s energy policy got to do with this silly Swedish neighbour anyway? Hypocrites Sans Frontières

I recall a Norwegian friend some years ago complaining heartily about the Sami and the huge amounts of compensation money they extract each year from the government because the wolves attack their reindeer. Most he said were just part timers anyway but milked the system for all they could get.

      The Sami

Fails to mention their dogs though. Mostly Finnish Lapphunds. Not as spectacular as the Samoyeds from Siberia, also used for reindeer herding in the past.

“…human rights, must go hand-in-hand with climate protection and climate action. That can’t happen at the expense of some people. Then it is not climate justice,”

Greta…When you and other protestors demand that people lower CO2 emissions to zero, that demand creates shortages and higher prices for the very fuels needed for the transportation required to make the transition to the world of renewables (solar and wind) and electric transportation. That is what happens at the expense of people. Is that the “climate justice” you espouse?

Here we go again; the petulant, teenaged scold lecturingthe adults about magic Unicorns AND reindeer herds. One this is for certain, if Greta’s lips are moving, turn around and find an adult.

I assume that reindeer ‘farting’ does not contribute to global CO2 emissions. Otherwise, it might be necessary to cull the herds. Then what will the Sami do?

Well actually it is ruminant’s belching that releases CO2 – not so much from farting.

Thunberg has condemned British mining firm Beowulf’s project to mine iron on Sámi land. She said, “We believe that the climate, the environment, clean air, water, reindeer herding, indigenous rights and the future of humanity should be prioritised above the short-term profit of a company. The Swedish government needs to stop the colonisation of Sami.”

Maybe Greta is on her 2023 World Tour. Along the way she might stop of at Brazil, India and China to have a word about the number of coal powered stations they are presently building.
After all, now a twenty year old adult who in the name of fairness and justice will believe in preaching to all.
Perhaps she would also stop off at the Democratic Republic of Congo, to visit a few cobalt mines and chat with the child miners there about working conditions ?

Perhaps we’re being a bit unfair on Greta. After all, when the eco-loons have destroyed our economies we might need the Sami to show how to be herders/hunter-gatherers. (Sarc intended)

Very much worth noting she is a 20 year old adult woman and not some “little girl” Then again when comedian Lee Hurst joked that Greta’s views on single use plastics might change when she discovered “….” wrapped in it she was only an 18 year old adult but he still got censured for his remark.

And there was George Carlin saying you could make a joke about anything but seemingly those who revere George for his ground breaking consider Lee’s remark vile. Weird.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get it! What is this unutterable word? I’m a very broad-minded, world-weary 80-odd year-old and have wracked my brains and can’t imagine what it is. Can someone please help? Possibly a word that rhymes, or something?
