Friends

By Paul Homewood

One of the great things about this job is the contact I have had with so many of you, whether via comments or email as several of you do.

A few years ago, a lovely lady called Barbara wrote to me. She studied Earth Sciences at Cambridge in the 1950s; her supervisor was Jean Grove, the renowned glaciologist and one of the leading researchers of her time into the Little Ice Age.

Every Christmas since, Barbara would write to me, thanking me for my work and telling me how appalled she was by the corruption of climate science.

Sadly her son emailed me a few weeks ago to let me know his mum had died, and I have now received an invitation to the funeral.

It is these friendships that make it all so worthwhile.

A sad loss – sounds like she was a lovely intelligent lady who appreciated your good work, as we all do.

It is good to know that there are some people who appreciate the truth .

And I think that everybody likes the work that Paul does on this site when most of the media is so corrupt and comes out with endless streams of lies .

So well done Paul and all of the people who are concerned about trying to tell it like it is .

Paul, I don’t make many comments on climate science as I have no formal science education but I learn a lot fro you postings, and those of Tony Heller and the sadly deceased Robert Felix all passionate researchers and callers out of the climate scam. They try to change the past to suit their agenda but the true facts are always still there. Thank you for all your great work.

Nice to hear you also have a human side. Personally I find your blog instructive, challenging and thoughtful. Keep it up. Amazing in a world where the official view must be challenged

There is a world of difference between those old-time climatologists like Jean Grove and the current batch of so-called climate scientists. That cohort belonged to the Association of British Climatology rather than the Royal Meteorological Society and tended to be in Geography departments, not Physics. They immersed themselves deeply in weather patterns characteristic of different regions of the globe or environment and many were focussed on the man:weather interface – how societies (also natural systems) adjusted themselves to the range of weather types they encountered. Some among the more numerate of them did apply statistical techniques but pukka meteorologists tended to look down on them and there was a measure of “physics envy” among the climatologists. This led to them being a too easy pushover when faced with modellers and mathematicians so, for example, they acquiesced with scarcely a murmur of protest to the disappearance of the MWP.

NWP has been an enormous boon but the downside of modern climate scientists’ and atmospheric physicists disconnect from real-world commonsense through slavish adherence to their models is doing untold damage and not just financial. Attachment of all parties to faddish Environment departments aggravates the situation through political overtones and presumptions.

The ‘NWP’ (New Warming Period?) might be a false interpretation. Longer cycles indicate that the LIA is NOT OVER. However, the return of it will be slow, and not in time to avoid the crippling of our Western Society by the mad ones.

NWP = Numerical Weather Prediction, a massively beneficial output of our understanding of dynamic processes in the atmosphere and capacity to simulate them numerically. The tragedy is that it didn’t stop there.

Condolences to all concerned. It is indeed remarkable how friendships and respect for the contributions of others in the community develop in forums like this. I felt a personal loss when Roger Andrews at Energy Matters died. His friends and relatives in Ajijic, Mexico where he spent his retirement urged us to carry forward the torch that he had lit. It has inspired me to contribute here and elsewhere and badger politicians, government and its quangos to try to get them to see sense.

We should take inspiration from those who like Barbara hold to the torch of proper research and truth.

    Paul,

I stand amazed at your ability to remain sane, immersed as you are in
all the lies with which we are fed and which you so valuably expose. I
find myself going potty reading and trying to absorb it all. ‘Stop the
World I Want to Get Off’ never more apt. How you must value people like
Barbara. Hope for your sake there are more of the sensible like her out
there and in contact with you.

Very many thanks and best regards,

    Martin Denning

    Dear Mr. Homewood,

How sad.😢 And yet, how heartwarming to learn about such a lovely person. Thank you for sharing and for honoring Barbara by writing that.

Your site is a life-giving breath of fresh air and very encouraging to one (me) who is still dismayed at the loss (since around 2016) of the personal touch and of the intellectually vigorous, unapologetic, defense of data-driven CO2 science over at wattsupwiththat.

    With gratitude and sympathy,

    Janice

I heartily second all the comments above and add my own thanks to you, Paul, for all your tireless work.

When there’s a new scare story in the news – and there always is, nearly every day – I come here first to read (and pass on) the invaluable rebuttal. Thank you Paul. What would we do without you?

Paul, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on Barbara, who was my much-loved aunt. I think I introduced her to your blog, or maybe she introduced me! It was such a long time ago! She was such a wonderful person and continued the crusade until the end. If you were able to come to the service you would be so welcome, the family would love to meet you and I know Barbara would be very honoured, and not a little amused! Thank you x
