UN report on growing world hunger criticised for climate hype
By Paul Homewood

London, 15 June – Net Zero Watch has criticised the UN and news media for claiming that ‘climate change is pushing millions of people into hunger,‘ a claim widely reported in the media.
.
A new UN report, “The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2023”, claims that 122 million more people are facing hunger than in 2019, and that global food insecurity has worsened in recent years due to the pandemic and repeated weather shocks and conflicts, including the war in Ukraine.
.
.
Whilst Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine have both disrupted food supplies and pushed up energy and food inflation, it is not true that food production is declining because of extreme weather events.
Even Pakistan, which was affected by severe flooding last year, has just reported a record harvest.
.
.
The UN’s climate claims are also contradicted by its own data, which shows worldwide food production continuing to climb. New records were set in 2021 for cereal output and the value of agricultural production. Last year recorded the second highest cereal production on record, and this year is now forecast to set yet another new record for wheat.
.
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 7 July 2023
.
According to the new report’s methodology, the UN’s claims are not based on actual data at all. Their index for hunger is derived from computer modelling, while their measure for food insecurity is calculated from household surveys.
.
Climate researcher, Paul Homewood, comments:
“The Director of the UN’s Food & Agriculture Organisation has remarked that the world’s food systems could entirely collapse. This is grossly irresponsible and a complete denial of the remarkable success of the world’s agricultural industry.
If the UN is concerned about world hunger, maybe they should call a halt to all of the agricultural Net Zero and rewilding projects being undertaken in Europe and elsewhere, all in the name of climate change”

If the UN are worried about food security, here is a suggestion for them – pump more plant food, namely CO2, into the atmosphere.
Perhaps the WEF making farming illegal in the Netherlands and outlawng Nitrogen based fertilizers has something to do with the coming, obviously planned food shortages. Like Hunter’s cocaine at Brandon’s DC based Crack House, we may never know. Years ago the TV show, Fernwood Tonight, ran an episode that proved, leisure suits caused cancer. Perhaps leisure suits cause Climate Grift as well? Like Crack Gate, we may never know.
Genius!
It’s not CC causing hunger but the fact that 3rd World countries don’t have access to cheap, available and reliable electricity which will enable a lowering of birth rates and, by definition (in time) a smaller (relatively) population. But the U.N./China (the new colonialists) and Green NZCs want them kept in poverty.
Allied to a point I made earlier. The UN said recently that world population will peak around mid-century at ~11 billion, give or take, and will start to decline about 2100.
The sure way to prevent that decline is to keep the poor poor. The logic seems to escape the seriously hard-of-thinking. Instead of following a path which will inevitably lead to people having fewer children they are determined we should follow a path which will virtually guarantee the opposite.
They don’t know why this is and evidently don’t want to know.
While I agree with your sentiments, from what I remember from Sociology class at uni, EDUCATION is the determining factor in both fertility/family size, and poverty. These two are closely linked. I agree; they want to keep the poor poor.
They go together. If you are stuck with subsistence farming where every pair of hands you can “create” is needed to ensure that you can at least survive then education is not high up your list.
If we are going to insist that (to quote one of the climate gurus) “we have to stop those third world countries right where they are” — which means no industrial revolution for them — then we are not going to get any sort of reduction in the population. Simples.
I recommend Shellenberger’s ‘Apocalypse Never’.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
Sorry, Billy, I repeat myself. Education is a leveller – if given without propaganda – but, it does not become universal without access to cheap electricity.
I think that lower birth rates are a combination of 3 Es. Education Employment and Empowerment for women. The 3 are often closely linked but in some societies, especially Islamic ones increased wealth and education for men may not lead to improvements for women and the birth rate may remain fairly high.
Excellent observation. I concur; the education of women is the determining factor. I once read, “The female of the species is more deadly than the male” but only in the wild where they are not oppressed by the patriarchy.
I always wondered why it was the White House…..
Its now the Rainbow House. Didn’t you see the rainbow flags displayed at the same level or above Old Glory, in contravention of regulations?
The DemoTwats don’t believe the law applies to them. You have to laugh at the response to an FBI request for people to report more crime. So they did, listing all the FBI crimes and those it fails to prosecute.
‘If the UN is concerned about world hunger’
Cirrusly? The UN has focus grouped the word hunger, finding they can get cultural traction with it. The UN isn’t concerned with hunger. They are for it. The irony is they will use YOUR concern about hunger as a fulcrum to takeover world food production. You are going to starve. You will have nothing. Klaus will be happy.
‘global food insecurity’
Food is local. It’s not global. Make it global, and your little corner of the world starves.
Imagine how insecure your food will be when it is controlled by the UN or Wannsee Economic Forum.
There is a paradox in Western progressive think. On one hand when their word salad repeatedly includes the weasel word “sustainability” they ignore the continuing UNsustainable exponential third world population explosion, repeatedly coming up with fatuous decline curves when bizarrely there is no evidence to support them. Is that very brave or just plane stupid when the curve is currently convex, not concave? Look at the silence in the media about this, with the odd exception who say it is not a problem. Consider this while on the other hand listening to those nutjobs advocating for limitations on the especially Western ability to produce food. What the HELL is that all about?
Modern agriculture is dominated by the enhancing beneficence of hydrocarbons.
I already stated this a couple of days ago, let us take the arts graduated of the asininely labelled “Just Stop Oil”, and their fatuous demands for exactly that. If we implement their demands tomorrow, world food production will collapse, because in spite of the wonderful contribution of increased CO2, which is the life blood of plants, the contribution of hydrocarbons (not fossil fuels which is the term deliberately used by the morons with arts degrees who spout about cyense today), is total.
Want next to know where agriculture and hence productivity will revert without hydrocarbons? All you need do is check what agriculture looked like 100 years ago and definitely 150 years ago before hydrocarbons entered the scene. The result? I would say a cool 5 billion of the current 7.5 billion people on the Planet will cease to exist within 12-18 months. Is it any surprise that the ideology which murdered more than 100 million people during the 20th Century is not only behind this obscenity but actively embraced by the weasels who call themselves politicians today in most “democratic” countries? Maybe they are of the opinion the opinion that they can do a better job this time!
The people pushing this crap do not publicly consider this outcome. They are of the breaking eggs to create an omelette ideology. Problem is, socialism and it’s unveiled form, marxism, broke over a hundred million eggs in the 20th Century without creating even a single omelette. This speaks volumes about who they really are. Wannabes all of them. Pol Pot? He was an amateur compared to their ambitions.
One might ask why UK food self sufficiency has dropped to around 48% .https://www.foodsecurity.ac.uk/challenge/uk-threat/#:~:text=The%20UK%20is%20not%20self,itself%20and%20drive%20economic%20growth.
But we should be content that green agricultural land, being rewilded or covered with subsidised solar panels will save us all.
You missed out being planted with trees to save the world and covered with houses to meet a demand that is driven by immigration.
Old people like me still remember the old Talking Heads song, “Nothing but Flowers.” You youngsters search and play it. The song is prescient, describing civilization being replaced by flowers. Was Byrne the original greeny? I do not know but he sure called this one.
