    Inferno Earth, WTF !!!
Middle of July, midday, indoors 15°C, extra coat on & the thermostat has switched the heating on.

16°C here, and throwing it down. Full seater/sou’wester to walk the dogs soon.

Pretty soon the BBC will need to send Mr. Rowlatt by rocket to Venus.

BBC have just interviewed an American who has written a book about the dangers of heat and climate change. One of his comments was ‘inner cities can be 20 to 30 degrees hotter than the surrounding countryside’. Did the interviewer question this, of course not, completely useless.
Meanwhile just read an interview with a Sicilian ‘hot? this is normal for July’, well, well, surprisingly the Med countries have a Siesta during the middle of the day and have done for centuries.
Meanwhile here in N Wales its 15c.

Usual BBC hypocrisy – save the planet by cutting down the use of fossil fuels – yet of course they FLY their correspondents everywhere!! One rule for them and sod the rest….

Interesting that they chose 1998. That was the cold-phase La-Nina year that quickly followed the record 1997 El-Nino. And today the El-Nino is still at the neutral 0.5°C. threshold, having been under the influence of La-Nina since 2019.

The 2023 chart shows clearly how the El Nino heating of the Pacific extends over central America across the Atlantic to southern Europe. It also shows how the jet stream extends from Greenland to the UK keeping us cool. I’ve just come back from France and 38C and even with a fan it was quite tolerable.

Been a few days of 40+ where I am. That’s why I’m here. Loving it!

    Looks like a “warm”
    Antarctica that’s driving this “record”

Unusually for the Met Office, this actually tries to explain why the ht wave / not heat wavs are happening. I don’t THINK he mentions climate change once! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykC7ZeOa04Q&t=637s
