Price of gas boilers could rise by as much as £300 under new government ‘green’ regime

If you can’t beat them, tax them!

The price of gas boilers could rise by as much as £300 under a new government ‘green’ regime, it was warned today.

Ministers want to introduce a requirement on manufacturers to push sales of heat pumps, which replace gas boilers and so cut the nation’s carbon emissions.

The proposal, called the Clean Heat Market Mechanism, would set makers a target to ensure at least 4 per cent of new systems sold are heat pumps. Firms that fail to meet this target would be required to pay ‘credits’ to other manufacturers that are selling heat pumps, or else pay multiple fines.

The boss of Worcester Bosch says these charges will inevitably be passed on to customers in the form of higher prices on gas boilers.

Chief executive Carl Arntzen said: ‘The price of a boiler currently within the supply chain is anything from about £700 to £1,000.

‘In some cases, for the top end of our models, we’re having to look at around a £300 price increase.’

He likened the policy to a ‘boiler tax’ and suggested the measure was designed to increase the cost of gas boilers to bring them closer to expensive heat pumps.

It is not just about wasting time etc .It is all about destroying the economy of the country .
Just like the hidden carbon taxes on fossil fuels which have made all forms of energy much more expensive , [ and put the price of just about everything up ,]
This one is another way of taking more money from everyone .
It is impossible for the whole country to switch to electric heating , it would need a massive increase in generating capacity . But they will carry on with taking money .https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/climate-change-scare-tool-to-destroy-capitalism/

The grid can’t manage to add the current intermittent sources without huge investment nobody can afford.

It is not just the cost of connecting up the unreliables .
Much to complicated to get a mention is the fact that with over 20 million electric motors [ heat pumps ] being put on the grid will cause a massive ” Lagging Power Factor “, causing the controls to shut it down .
I could not begin to estimate the cost for all of the synchronous capacitors to balance it out , but it will probably never work .

“Ministers want to introduce a requirement on manufacturers” Presumably that is “UK manufacturers” so can it be applied to foreign manufacturers? I seriously doubt it. So manufacturers bugger off somewhere else. Will it be a tax on UK sale? So drive abroad and stick one in the boot for the journey home – the new “booze cruise”.
Who the f… do these morons think they are?…Heil Hitler! Or should that be our still overlord Heil Van Der Leyen!

At some point in this mad plan to ruin the country, there will be an uprising against all these punitive measures to impoverish us for the requirements of net zero. Sri Lanka here we come.

Just replaced our faithful 30yr old old Potterton gas boiler with an equivalent Worcester Bosch unit – for a shade under £4k installed and with a 10-yr warranty and service deal. It can apparently be adapted to run on hydrogen, but there’s no chance of that coming to pass. It can also be converted to lpg. I’m 77 now and it will see me out – and some….. Bo****ks to them all!
But just in case, we now also have a 9kw wood burner too – and acres of (v sadly) dying ash trees that should also see me out.
Selfish attitude, I agree, but I truly, truly despair of our present ‘government’ and am very fearful of what the loony left might impose on us after the election……

Me too with the trees and log burner, have to look after nᵒ one nowadays!

New Worcester Bosch gas boiler and log burner installed here too. Seems to be a trend amongst so-called deniers (I wear that badge with pride these days). Net zero is nothing short of bonkers.

The usual stick with no carrot from the net zero dogmatists.

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Well, what a surprise. Can’t get the price of heat pumps down, so make gas boilers more expensive.

Not just the price, nobody believes they are better at heating your home. And they are incompatible with many homes.

Had a new Vaillant gas boiler installed 3 weeks ago. I am 74 and my last Vaillant lasted 25 years so….sod ’em.

“Minister” means servant, yet these ministers, the CCC , Ed Milliband are treating us like their servants. They are also behaving like agents of a hostile foreign power. Perhaps they get paid in Roubles or Vodka.
No-one voted for net zero or any other part of that most brilliantly executed scam since Nazi Germany.
    What are these ministers’ names?
They deserve, like Miliband, Johnson, ex-Gummer and so many more to be cancelled, sent to a totalitarian state which is what their edicts seek to do to the UK and never to be seen or heard in the UK again.
Could Rishi make the arrangements or does he fear the brainwashed public?)

Insanity. Punish manufacturers because they sell products the market actually needs and wants.

Directing what businesses should make and how many they must sell. Central planning at its most stupid. When did we vote for this?

Slightly off topic, but the current government is using the label “Conservative” – cannot we bring an action against them under the Trades Descriptions Act, as by no measure can any recent action of them be remotely considered conservative?

In fairness, the Conservatives conserve nothing.
Labour doesn’t care a fiddler’s fart about anyone who labours.
The Liberal Democrats are absolutely illiberal and staunchly anti-democratic. (Ignore the 2016 referendum?)
The Greens are Red inside watermelons.
Socialists are avowedly anti-social and Communists want to destroy any British community.
All the above use “fascist” as one of their favourite insults whilst behaving like little fascists and promoting a corporate state of which Mussolini would have been proud.
I could continue. Hope not Hate? Biggest haters around. Black lives Matter? Yes after the income had been spent on fancy investment property (and White lives certainly don’t matter).

I am totally at a loss how in a democracy with supposedly freedoms for us all that government can fine businesses when we choose not to buy something that is legal to buy?

Someone needs to add up all the increasing evidence of hidden costs to achieve this impossible transition. Cost of heat pumps alone is meaningless, without all the costs associated with improvements to the property concerned. Our 1650-ish cottage will effectively need rebuilding at great cost to achieve that. So b—locks to the new powers that our elected representatives in Parliament have mindlessly agreed, that will impoverish all but the rich and elites.

I smell civil disobedience leading to disorder in the air.

I am saving the planet by using a perfectly functioning Potterton boiler made in the late 1950’s.
