Meet Andy Samuel–The Met Office’s New Director
By Paul Homewood
h/t Philip Bratby
Why has this bloke been appointed?

Now I wonder what qualities he will bring to the job?
“Andy brings a wide range of skills and experience. His leadership of transitional change in the energy sector in the field of carbon capture and storage, hydrogen and offshore wind energy in particular will help the Board provide strategic direction to the Met Office as it works to inform government and its customers who work in these sectors.”
This sums up the Met Office’s priorities. They are no longer interested in weather forecasting, and are more concerned with stopping us all enjoying the benefits of fossil fuels.

Please tell me this is a sick joke
There’s nothing like a good joke and that is nothing like a good joke
What is immediately apparent from his Linked In profile is that in recent years he has become a green trougher of the very highest order and clearly makes money (no doubt lots of it) from promoting the “energy transition”. What is not obvious is whether he knows even the first thing about the weather or climate science in general. What the hell, therefore, is he doing on the main board of the national weather forecasting company? What value is he supposed to add?
You are left with the clear impression that his appointment can only be aimed at continuing to steer the Met Office away from its obvious original purpose toward promoting the themes of anthropogenic climate change thus necessitating the energy transition that he/his investment managers value so highly.
He had a clear conflict of interest and should step down immediately….
Don’t wait up….
All conflicts of interest are immediately hidden by the Ministry of Climate Crisis – look at them all, Kerry, Gore et al, all making huge bank accounts from greenery – as with all things, just follow the money
Energy transition? Is it a variant of the so-successful German Energiewende?
So, he’s been a leader in CCS and hydrogen! Neither are more than idealised paper studies to please the net-zero fans. Nothing has been built in the UK for two of these technologies that he “leads in”. Offshore wind is not UK technology either, all imported apart from the structural aspects. Clearly, he has friends, or, more topically, should it be fiends, in the right places.
Yep. A leader in failed technologies. Perhaps he can scuttle the Met’s program, too.
Cirrusly, why would you bring in a loser? Without field knowledge? The Met has some splainin’ to do.
He used to work in oil and gas before going over to the Dark Side.
He should have stayed there, they will be around a lot longer than the nut zero tat
But he can always go back to a proper job when the scam ends.
So, not knowing a damn thing about how meteorology and weather forecasting – let alone climate development over history – he has all the credentials to give his employees the warm feeling (Hah!) that they will have his support when they play the the CC/NZC card.
It really proves the point that a fish rots from the head down. Ad the MO is really starting to smell.
“starting”?
🙂
Huh, what can I add? at the Trough: Hunger for compliance and the Power of Knowing (nothing or something)
Q: What is the difference between a shopping trolley and a non-executive director?
A: Both can contain a large amount of food & drink but a shopping trolley has a mind of it’s own.
Bizarre. I wonder who was on the interview/appointments board.
It would be interesting to read the job description for the appointee although non execs do not necessarily require relevant competences. Sound familiar?
Why do the Met Office need an expert in CCS and hydrogen on their payroll?
They’re supposed to be about weather forecasts and meteorological stuff.
And off shore wind!
Put that in a letter to the DT, Ches. It needs to be made public.
More to the point, why are the Met Office choosing solutions? Fine, they believe something must be done about climate change. But on what possible basis do they decide what we should do and how?
Of course, he ticks the big green nut zero box – no weather competence, but hey, that’s no issue in these climate alarmist times – he can stir up a good crisis as well as any weather person, likely better
In these dystopian climate times, you need agenda henchmen, not people who may actually act professionally and not really buy into the hoax based on the actual, factual data
A strange appointment given that the purpose of the Met Orifice should be quite clear.
Once again we see well-paid jobs for those who are part of the elite group and should play the game. The role of an independent director is yo challenge management, not nod enthusiastically at every idea management has.
The Met Office appointed somebody with even more Green credentials than Andy Samuel as one of its non-executive directors only a few months ago. They appointed Catherine Bremner in May 2023:
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/press-office/news/corporate/2023/catherine-bremner-appointed-to-the-met-office-board
“Prof. Penny Endersby, Chief Executive Officer, welcomed the appointment, noting: “I am very much looking forward to working with Catherine. Her experience of formulating climate policy informed by scientific research programmes and working to develop sustainable finance and business solutions will help us understand the needs of government, our partners and customers. Her practical leadership and operating experience in high profile organisations will help ensure we support and equip our staff to continue to focus on delivering real and meaningful impacts that help people stay safe and thrive.””
“Catherine previously served as Director, International Energy and Climate Finance, in the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), managing a team of 200+ staff globally. Catherine chaired the UK climate and energy G7 Presidency in 2022; the first G7 to agree to Net Zero commitments. Catherine joined BEIS in 2016 as Head of Climate Science and co-sponsor for the Met Office Hadley Centre climate science programme. Catherine was previously Vice-Chair of the International Energy Agency and was a Trustee of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Before that Catherine worked as Global Head of Environmental Sustainability at ANZ bank and Chief Operating Officer at Low Carbon Australia. She spent her early career with McKinsey.”
He looks eerily like Jeremy Paxman.
The whole system / institutions are politically corrupt agenda driven liars, but the vast swath of the population just don’t realise it or even care, probably due in part to the controlled media.
What can be done ?
Move to South Carolina.

You are correct, BP, the corruption is manifest.
