I thought that Britain’s constitution forbade the Monarch from dabbling in politics. Like all politicians Charles will claim that his sacred mission (translation: his pet project) transcends such considerations.

As always, our ruler just expects his loyal subjects to bow & scrape and tug their forelocks in stunned amazement at his amazing apolitical judgement and knowledge, but never mind the rank hypocrisy. He seems to see himself as a reincarnation of Louis XIV.

This is the key issue with climate change. There’s the science, which is supposedly science. then there’s what, if anything, we do about it. That’s politics. But our idiot king, the BBC, most of the media, most commentators, simply don’t understand that. Charles should be told that choosing to do anything is POLIITICS, not science.

Unlike Queen Elizabeth, who everyone loved and respected beyond measure, King Charles has decided that he should use his position of privilege to lecture us. It’s a bit rich coming from the man with possibly the biggest carbon footprint of any person in the United Kingdom.
Looks like his sons are suffering from the same delusion, whereby they have the divine right to continue to maintain their own privileged and exorbitant lifestyles whilst, at the same time, telling the rest of the world that it’s time we returned to the dark ages.

I hard somebody on TV last night suggest that because there were 10 people on the flight, the carbon cost per person was no worse than on a commercial flight, so there.

That reminds me of my late Chairman. When his son , the MD, had failed to book flights to an important meeting in Basel, the only alternative (if they weren’t to lose face) was to charter a private plane. The plane had a capacity for 13 passengers, so a group of us, including the Chairman’s secretary, were invited to go on a day trip to Basel for no good reason.

On the way back, the Chairman pontificated that if we divided the cost of the chartered aircraft by 13, it was little more than the cost of a business class flight, completely disregarding the fact that only one person actually needed to go to Basel in the first place.

I sense he missed his vocation. Such logic would have qualified him for high office in today’s administration.

Being king should bring some privileges.

Is the problem this king, or having a king at all?

    • November 7, 2023 10:42 am

He has totally failed to learn the lesson from his mother that the King/Queen must be absolutely apolitical, and also keep his mouth closed on any remotely political issue.

      • Gamecock permalink
        November 7, 2023 10:49 am

So the problem isn’t really about his going to see Miss Katy, it’s about shooting his mouth off.

Indirection doesn’t help your cause. Tell him to STFU. Calling him a hypocrite misses the point.

It doesn’t reflect well on him that he had so many years to learn from his mother and yet obviously failed.

In answer to Gamecock, people who say we should dump the King as Head of State should consider the downside of this. We could have a senile dribbling fool who evidence shows did not actually win the election as Head of State. Or if you look around other countries where there is a President alongside the head of the government, the President has very little respect and virtually no public profile outside their country. Who can name the German president for example?

Gamecock !! Pay attention in the back row !

“So the problem isn’t really about his going to see Miss Katy, it’s about shooting his mouth off. ”

No, Charlie Chump didn’t go to see Miss Katy ; he just shoot’s his mouth off.

It was Harry the Ginger fool that went to see Miss Katy.

Charlie Chump took his first wife as a brood mare while all the time, before during & after the marriage was more involved with his Nanny. And that’s OK because he was the ‘defender of faiths’

        November 7, 2023 11:09 am

He never wanted to learn the lesson, he only paid lip service to being apolitical when his mother was alive. He has an overbearing sense of entitlement, which comes from being a constitutional monarch, but not the emotional intelligence to understand the need to manage his behaviour accordingly and keep his mouth closed.

      • November 7, 2023 11:21 am

” people who say we should dump the King as Head of State should consider the downside of this. ”

        I don’t want a head of state.

My view is that the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas should have been sent back to Germany in August 1914. This might not be a popular view !

I think the King’s problem is that he has convinced himself that everybody in Britain believes climate change is real – so the issue isn’t in contention so therefore its not a political matter. This isn’t helped by all the main political parties agreeing with this.

        Well said, Mr Phillips.

“This isn’t helped by all the main political parties agreeing with this.”

Worse, the press has abdicated their responsibility. It is their duty to tell him to STFU. Situational ethics; they agree with him, so it’s okay.

Good point. Since BA are flying their Boeings to Sydney and New York every day ANYWAY; that means all the passengers score zero ‘carbon footprint’ when they fly on those jets. Thats solved the Weenie Greenies ‘climate crisis’ then.
By this accounting logic I’ve reassessed the UK ‘carbon footprint’ to already be below net zero.

Yes that’s how it works, people who shout very loudly that we must give up flying don’t themselves have to give up flying until there’s no flying.

      • November 7, 2023 12:14 pm

I doubt if many Germans know who the President of Germany is!
Worse still in a recent survey in the Irish Republic, quite a large minority did not even know they had a president.

So a visit by the German president to meet the Irish president would barely cause a ripple.

Our ‘ King ‘ softening the proles up for paying more green taxes to fund increased subsidies to persuade Right Charlie’s tenants – the wind farm scammers – to bid for those otherwise unprofitable contracts .

      Absolutely right.

Aug 2004 (Telegraph): The Prince of Wales believes that wind farms are a “horrendous blot on the landscape” and that their spread must be halted before they irreparably ruin some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside.”

Then things changed: April 2012 (Daily Mail)
“The Royal Family could soon be cashing in on dozens of wind turbines – even though they have been condemned by Prince Charles and Prince Philip. The Crown Estate, a £7 billion land and property portfolio, is run by independent trustees, but from next year the Royal Family will be living off its profits as a result of sweeping changes to their finances.”

      June 2019 (Guardian)
“After officially opening the Beatrice offshore wind farm in the summer, Prince Charles described it as a “remarkable engineering feat.”

      July 2019 (Guardian)
“The crown estate has opened the first leasing round for offshore windfarms in a decade to usher in a new generation of wind projects expected to eventually generate an investment of £20bn.

Industry experts expect the complex bidding process to raise record sums, which could increase energy bills and hand a windfall to the crown – potentially generating hundreds of millions for the Queen. The Crown Estate does not make its forecasts public. However, if the government’s 2030 target is met, the Queen [or King Charles, or King William] could be collecting more than £100m a year within a decade.”

      June 2021 (Business Green)
“Prince Charles has launched a new task force under the banner of his Sustainable Markets Initiative to bring together the CEOs of some of the largest insurance companies to explore how to accelerate the transition to a nature positive and net zero emission economy.

Specific new offerings could include adapting and expanding coverage for offshore wind projects in a bid to accelerate the clean energy sector’s growth, and introducing ‘build back better’ claims clauses in home insurance policies to encourage customers to ensure damaged homes are rebuilt in line with environmental best practices, the group said.”

With the recent disappointing offshore bidding round, he needs to up the ante and keep the money flowing. He has an expensive family to keep.

Something to smile about. An all battery powered Google bus lost power in San Francisco and was acquainted with the power of gravity as it hurtled backwards down the hill. It hit 9 cars on the way down before coming to a halt. Why didn’t it brake?? The brakes are electric so failed as well.

According to the Guardian article the Truss Government advised the King to not attend last year’s COP27 conference and consequently he did not. So this means that the current Government has given permission for the King to attend COP28.

I will not be voting for any party that supports the false CAGW narrative and Net Zero.

Especially one led by a PM who, as Chancellor, said at COP26 :
“So our third action is to rewire the entire global financial system for Net Zero.”
