Thank goodness for that. It would be awful if they ever actually reached a concrete agreement.
Now there’s a metaphor soon to be outlawed by NewSpeak: Concrete!! You can’t have concrete! Think of all that CO2! Then again…..
Reification rules the realm.

The West again refused to be carved up, which pissed off the pope.

A conditional agreement to begin carving up the West. Frankly, I don’t trust the EU to stick to the conditional requirement, though there are still enough rational people in member states to resist.
Josh and NetZeroWatch make a great partnership.
I would like to plat the idea that attending COP 28 is analogous to attending an illegal Downing St party. If any of those 90,000 hypocrites really thought there was a climate emergency, they would not even contemplate getting on a plane with the sole purpose of strutting around like evangelical peacocks.
Their brains are made up of small boxes, Euan. You pull out the contents of the relevant box at the relevant time.
It’s another variant on “it is hard to get a man to believe something when [insert relevant benefit here] depends on his not believing it?”
Love
“strutting around like evangelical peacocks.”
I’ll use that if I may
I think many, if not most, of them DO really believe that there is a climate ’emergency’ but they also take being a hypocrite very seriously.
It being the time of year, reading the above brought a carol to mind:
“Little donkey, little donkey
On a dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onwards
With the precious load.
Been a long time little donkey
Thro’ the winter’s night.
Don’t give up now little donkey
Bethlehem’s in sight.”
Happy Christmas.
It’s 70 °F in Jerusalem right now.
I think Western poets/songwriters project their own weather on Christmas in the Holy Land.
Yeah GC it’s warm In Israel but the new “Messiah” is now “Director of the Center for Science, Sustainability & the Media at the University of Pennsylvania” and it get’s quite cold in Bethlehem PA
Just imagine, COP 29 reached agreement on an internationally binding treaty to achieve Net Zero accepted by every country, with an inspection regime and sanctions on defaulters – there would be no need for any more COPs. Much more fun to keep falling short and having to meet next year for another jolly.
Touché!
“Do you want an agreement, or do you want to meet in Baku next year?”
. . . said rep from Brazil to attractive female rep from Japan.
The UN COP is completely undemocratic, and should be disbanded, they’ve become our lord & masters …and our governments are complicit
And by extension the UN should be disbanded as well. Not a great surprise to find that the UN are involved with Hamas in Gaza.
Says a lot to see our lame former PM Call Me Dave pictured just after our lame current PM Sushi has brought him back as Call Me Lord Dave.
For a change, some good news: Brazil putting up for auction 602 (!) oil & gas drilling blocks just days after COP28. (From news.mongabay.com – a green-loon site)
