& China, Japan, Russia, Canada, Turkey, Iran, USA & in this ‘boiling world Antarctica has reached a summer-time record low of -50C
& the Arctic has 14 million sq km of sea ice.
Amazingly Alaska gets a lot less snow over the winter than you would expect……except for this year when they have had loads and loads.

There used to be heavy snow on the South Coast (Sussex) on the South Downs and in the 1940s and 50s but it hasn’t snowed there in any depth (3 cms for 10 minutes) or at all for 30 years at least.

One of the useful aspects of data recording is to stop completely wrong anecdotal memories such as yours.
the South Coast (Sussex) and South Downs were covered in snow for weeks during the winters of 2008-9, 2009-10 and 2010-11. Roads were blocked and drifts were in feet not cms. I know cause I was commuting through the stuff daily. You really should do some homework before posting nonsense here. Snow in South England has never been regular, it comes on the climate cycles. There will be heavy snow on the Downs again before 2030.
He is invariably described as a senior scientist but I remember him well as a quite junior member of CRU who given the task almost immediately after achieving his doctorate of preparing their press releases.
They are absolutely right. Snow in England and Wales won’t save French ski resorts.

My son is skiing in the French alps this week at megeve. Says there is good snow cover and excellent skiing. They just make these stories up. The alarmists have forecast the end of skiing in the Alps for the last 30yrs, but every year more ski lifts get built. Hmmm, no snow aint happening – its just an urban myth.
My daughter lives in Switzerland and has a holiday home in Klosters. Plenty of snow there this year. A bit of a waste really as none of us ski.
Most Alpine resorts reported their best start to a season for decades, at one point Chamonix had 5 metres on it’s upper slopes. The past few weeks have been fairly mild and some of the smaller low lying resorts are currently struggling a bit so there’s always some facts to cherry pick.
Every school in Flintshire will be closed tomorrow, but BBC waeather forecast for Mold says sleet and a moderate breeze.

The Met Office expects a lot worse.
Are these closed schools on the high ground? I suspect it is another example of yet another over zealous risk officer and all too willing teachers – willing to stay at home.

Any excuse to skive off work. The country’s gone so soft its turned to slime. Green slime.
The Met Office always expects a lot worse, since it stopped being a scientific body and turned into a branch of the propaganda business.

‘A council which closed all of its schools today due to snow warnings has faced backlash from annoyed parents.
Venting their frustrations on social media, parents say that all schools in Flintshire were closed, despite the snow never materialising.
Flintshire County Council confirmed on Wednesday that all schools in the county would be closed on Thursday after the Met Office issued an amber weather warning for the area.
The warning is in place from 8am to 3pm.
Darren Williams posted on X that he had to book time off work for this “pitiful amount of snow”.

The very serious danger of all these Met Office weather warnings is the classic “Cry Wolf” syndrome. Nobody pays attention after a while to the exaggerated claims of impending disaster and then a genuinely dangerous event occurs.

Back in the early noughties when our daughter was at primary school, the school bus would be cancelled if there was the lightest dusting of snow. Parents would then have to take the kids to school in their cars.
Just spoke to a guy in a call centre in Doncaster. It’s snowing hard there and he was about to leave for home in Sheffield as it’s getting worse.
In the winter of 1962/3 my school (Mersey Street Juniors, Hull) never closed once. Heating consisted of a sole paraffin heater in the corner of the classroom. Weirdly the only bits of me that ever felt really cold were my toes as wellies are not very good insulators and even two pairs of socks didn’t help much. How times have changed.
Bloody luxury,we dreamt of having wellies (and socks).
Here in Whitehurst, near Chirk (N E Wales) we awoke to a Met Office yellow warning of snow with a large ! centred on Oswestry 6 miles away down the road.
Snowed soggily but not heavily for just over an hour then rained. Cold but whilst some snow still remains on the lawns roads, roofs and parking areas clear.
