The “Great Barrier Reef Is Dying” Scam
By Paul Homewood

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!
Hundreds of sites across most of the Great Barrier Reef are turning white from heat stress in the fifth mass coral bleaching event in eight years.
Aerial surveys over two-thirds of the reef have confirmed ‘widespread’ bleaching, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority said on Friday.
Climate change is the biggest threat to tropical reefs worldwide, and coral bleaching is caused by heat stress.
It’s not always fatal but corals are likely to die if temperatures remain higher than normal for too long.
Reef Authority chief scientist Roger Beeden said bleaching had been recorded at 300 sites from Cape Melville north of Cooktown to just north of Bundaberg.
‘The results are consistent with what we have seen with above average sea surface temperatures across the marine park for an extended period of time,’ Dr Beeden said.

It was only a year ago that Australia’s leading reef expert, Dr Peter Ridd, reported that coral cover was at record highs:

London, 8 February – A new paper published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation refutes alarmist claims about the state of the world’s coral reefs.
According to the author, eminent reef scientist Peter Ridd, the official data show no signs of any long-term trends in reef health. Indeed, the best records – for Australia’s Great Barrier Reef – suggest that coral cover is at record highs.
Dr Ridd said:
"The public are constantly told that reefs are being irreparably damaged by global warming, but bleaching events, about which there is so much doom-mongering, are simply corals’ natural response to changes in the environment. They are an extraordinarily adaptable lifeform, and bleaching events are almost always followed by rapid recovery."
Dr Ridd suggests that rather than being seen as under threat from climate change, corals should actually be recognised as one of the organisms least likely to suffer harm in a warming world.
"Corals get energy from a symbiotic relationship with various species of algae. When environmental conditions change, they can rapidly switch to a different species that is better suited to the new conditions. This shapeshifting means that most setbacks they suffer will be short-lived."
Dr Ridd says that the real risks to reefs come from overfishing and pollution.
The GWPF invited responses to this paper from authors likely to dissent from its conclusions. None of the authors who were contacted accepted this invitation.
Peter Ridd: Coral in a Warming World: Causes for Optimism (pdf)
As Peter Ridd’s report noted, it only in the last two or three decades that the GBR has really been systematically surveyed. Yet there is plenty of evidence that similar bleaching events have frequently occurred in the past, particularly during El Nino events. They were just never observed.
Whereas it was natural to assume that coral reefs would die off after bleaching, Ridd shows that they actually recover very quickly. Bleaching, far from being fatal, is actually a remarkable
adaptive response to changing temperature, because having expelled the microscopic algae, which gives it its colour as well as energy, it reabsorbs another strain of algae which thrives in warmer water. The opposite happens when the seas cool.
Ridd concluded:
The Mail report includes this comment, which exposes the thing as a scam:
Australia’s emissions of CO2 are just 1% of the world’s, so calling on the Federal Government to reduce emissions will make no difference whatsoever to the reef. Instead they are using the reef as an excuse to force through their left wing political agenda.

CANCEL YOUR AUSTRALIAN VACATION! NOTHING TO SEE THERE; THE REEF IS RUINED. GET THE WORD OUT AROUND THE WORLD.
Coral reefs are located around the equator, they like heat. The Barrier reef is south of the equator, you would expect the greatest bleaching, due to temperature, would affect the reefs actually on the equator. I wonder why they do not bleach.
Yep. The Red Sea between NE Africa and Saudi Arabia has one of the most extensive coral reefs in the world with steep coral ‘cliffs’ several thousand metres deep as well as many coral islands. They are roughly the same distance from the Equator as the GBR but I haven’t seen anyone worrying about them bleaching. (They may be suffering some damage from stray Houti missiles though).
“What about the coral bleaching? What shall I do?”
“Frankly, my dear. I don’t give a damn!”
And Rhett Butler strides off with squared shoulders, having finally got free of the succubus.
There is always a “Doctor Swindler” happy to wave shrouds for an appropriate donation.
Anther hardy perennial of the climate scare variety along with sea ice death spirals, endless droughts, ozone layer calamities, ocean circulation failures, heat deaths etc…zzzzzz …
Correction: ”Experts say it can still be saved – just send us lots more money”.
No mention is made of the late Dr.Robert Carter who was one of the first to criticise the fears expressed by so called experts. In fact it was felt that the stress of losing his job at James Cook University through his statements that barrier reef was fine, led to his fatal heart attack. the University said he was wrong but events have proved him right. Very sad.
Yet another pack of lies, totally ignored by the MSM.
I think I’ll wait to hear what Jennifer Marohasy has to say.
Scandalous article. The “travails” that Peter Ridd was subjected too, were tantamount to the Latin meaning of the word. Was it a million pounds or whatever he had to crowdfund to win his disgusting dismissal? Is their no end to this torrent of green effluent. Living in Scotland the indoctrination of children is absolutely terrifying.
The coral reefs around Scotland must be glorious since they dont get ‘heat-stressed’!
Well they do suffer from +/- two degrees in the summer. I mean it could be two degrees less in the summer. The coral here and in northern climes is fine when I was diving to see them. One issue is that their “Loupin”, Scottish colloquial” with Caesium-137, just like Chernobyle, they seem to have found a way to survive and adapt.
Slàinte Mhòr 🥃
.
.
Slàinte mhath
Mhath pronounced var due to lenition, a feature of Scots and probably Irish and Manx gaelic, to make the language flow. Good would be Math (mar) in other circumstances
Mòr/mhòr means big. Hence the anglicised Ben More means big mountain. Confusingly “beag” is small
At least that’s what I understand although lenition is something I don’t really understand.
I helped fund Peter Ridd’s legal case against the super-rich lying JCU. He won the first hearing massively as there were a large number of points the JCU were found to be deficient. With other people’s money to burn and with a complete lack of humility or honesty, JCU went to appeal and got a compliant judge to rule in their favour.
Heat stress? Nonsense everyone knows bleaching is caused because the oceans are now ‘acid’ due to CO2.
You joke…. I hope! 🙂
In any case, I offer a new version of ‘go away pseudo-scientific creep’:
“Go banana slug yourself!”
(Explanation: I found out today that banana slugs are hermaphrodites, who really like their own company.)
As Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, has pointed out the most prolific area in the World for corals (500 species) is the Coral Triangle which contains the warmest waters in the World. So, if anything, warming waters should be good for the Barrier Reef corals.
Nothing to see here, same with polar bears, just alarmist distractions, it’s all they have left
“…it’s all they have left…distractions”
These distractions, however, work just fine, as propaganda for the home front, in the Orwellian, never-ending, war they have rubbed up “against carbon.”
I compare it to the pseudo-scientific, but genuinely held belief of the majority of the World’s “progressive” scientists, one hundred years ago, that “race” was the defining element in human development. Was your genetic stock improving or decaying? This was actually thought to be a meaningful and well defined question for political entities such as nations. Everybody “thought” they understood the question. If you said, “I do not understand it,” or, “This is only a minor factor,” you were dismissed, pityingly, as not being educated in modern scientific concepts.
The Great Barrier Reef would be (according to scientists) dead by Christmas 1971. Got some publicity in the Sydney Morning Herald Aug 3. 1980 a Senate enquiry was toldthe reef was facing gradual destruction by human activity. There followed various life ending predictions in 1984, 1988, 1989. 1993, 1994, 1995, 2003, 2016 and 2017.
It was “officially announced dead in September 2019”.
On a personal note I was on a school boat cruise there in 1962 when the scheduled stop at some reef was transferred to another reef area. I asked the leading hand why and he said “its gone white. patched do that every so often. They recover in a year of two”.
And the first observation of bleaching was in 1862 when an artist was lowered into the Red Sea in a diving bell and sketched it for subsequent coloured lithographs. Sorry I haven’t a link (merely a copy of the litho).
.
More fear hyp from the green blob.
I just don’t believe them any more . .
In a widely-praised paper on coral-reef bleaching, Hughes et al 2018 DOI: 10.1126/science.aan1048 ran correlations between instances of coral bleaching and warming in major reef areas. For the Australasia the R-squared value was 0.0001. That is warming has virtually zero relationship observed coral bleaching instances.

This lack of a relationship, which contradicts the narrative, is hidden away in supplementary data Fig 4.
If neither Peter Ridd nor Jennifer Marohasy agree with this then it can be filed under lying nonsense.
And Dr Ridd lost his job for daring to point out the activism pretending to be science taking place at James Cook University aided and abetted by the university who wanted to keep raking in all that klymutt cash.
Bleaching has no single cause but the main one scandalously overlooked by the climate pseudoscientists is the issue of subaerial exposure. Sea level is not constant or linear in spite of what the screeching arts graduates wail about over their lattes. Coral like like all other sun dependent life forms is trying to get as close to the sun as possible. However, because sea level goes up and down for a number of reasons, quite often coral grows upwards too quickly and finds it’self exposed ABOVE sea level which in turn means it gets a nasty case of sunburn and consequently suffers dieback or bleaching. Such bleaching events can be seen in the geological record they are not new in spite of the nonsense the activists spout.
Another scandalous piece of non science is the acidification of oceans scam. NEVER in the whole of geological history have the oceans ever been acidic. This is more garbage embraced by the arts graduate activists who have not a clue about chemistry…or geological history.
The final scamaroo is the claim about warming seas being harmful to the Barrier Reef. Funnily the same species of coral to be found on the Barrier Reef exist is much warmer water in Indonesia and seem to like it because there they grow much larger and faster there.
After all these years and the billions wasted on the Klymutt scam all we see is the same pointless piffle recycled again and again by the science charlatans, who are addicted to the easy tax payer money they live high on the hog off . Mendel would be proud of you all!
The three non-issues for public consumption are:
Great Barrier Reef. Bleaching is part of the natural cycle of reefs although
Sea level rise (and laughable acidification).
Polar Bears, perhaps the activists should try giving one a cuddle
NEVER any mention of cause, always unsubstantiated claimed effect and when they get caught out………..the scam is put back in the box for a period of time and then out it comes again.
