A few months after the BBC’s The Weather Machine, US TV put out their version:
As well as the extreme weather experienced during the cooling, the programme highlights just how much the world’s climate has changed in the last few thousand years.
Meanwhile YouTube are forced to put the mandatory health warning, which is totally contradicted by the documentary!

No doubt, since there is a link to the UN with every such video, Google are probably charging the UN for their services. It also means someone is tracking “deniers”, thus when a video goes viral a billionaire funded public relations teams from the many eNGOs get to work countering it.

In the 60′ and 70’s they really were going to extremes with ideas to fight global cooling, note the date and the title:

“Since about 1840, a new warming trend has predominated and appears to have reached a climax in this century, followed by cooling since about 1940, irregularly at first but more sharply since about 1960. The periods of general warming were accompanied by increasing vigour of the westerly circulation in both hemispheres, bringing a more maritime climate to the continents, a northward displacement of cyclone paths, and a pronounced warming of the Arctic.
The recent cooling trend exhibits a reverse pattern: weakened westerly circulation, more variable and southerly cyclone paths, and a colder Arctic.
Man already has the technological capability to carry out many climate-influencing schemes, such as the creation of large inland seas, the deflection of ocean currents, the seeding of extensive cloud or surface areas, and perhaps even the removal of the arctic pack ice.
SPECIFIC SCHEMES FOR CLIMATE MODIFICATION (To Warm UP the Planet)
Many engineering proposals have been advanced for improving the climatic resources of particular regions.
ICE-FREE ARCTIC OCEAN
The largest scale enterprise that has been discussed is that of transforming the Arctic into an ice-free ocean.
BERING STRAIT DAM
The Soviet engineer, Borisov, has been the most active proponent of the much-publicized Bering Strait dam. The basic idea is to increase the inflow of warm Atlantic water by stopping or even reversing the present northward flow of colder Pacific water through the Bering Strait.
DEFLECTING THE GULF STREAM
Two kinds of proposals have been discussed, a dam between Florida and Cuba, and weirs extending out from Newfoundland across the Grand Banks to deflect the Labrador current as well as the Gulf Stream.
DEFLECTING THE KUROSHIO CURRENT
It has been proposed that the narrow mouth of Tatarsk Strait, where a flood tide alternates with an ebb tide, be regulated by a giant one-way ‘water valve’ to increase the inflow of the warm Kuroshio Current to the Sea of Okhotsk and reduce the winter ice there.
CREATION OF A SIBERIAN SEA
Dams on the Ob, Yenisei and Angara rivers could create a lake east of the Urals that would be almost as large as the Caspian Sea.
CREATION OF AFRICAN SEAS
This is the largest known proposal for creating man-made lakes. If the Congo, which carries some 1,200 cubic kilometres of water per year, were dammed at Stanley Canyon (about 1 mile wide), it would impound an enormous lake (the Congo Sea).”
As we of course know from people like Michael Mann, there was no cooling in the 60’s and 70’s, it’s all a myth like the Little Ice Age. It’s fortunate none of their ideas was attempted, now they talk about shielding the Sun to “cool the planet” just like Mr Burns did in the Simpsons. But that was a cartoon and he did it so everyone would have to buy his nuclear power.

In an unprecedented move, more than 1,800 people first submitted a complaint to the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office, before delivering the letter calling for Judge Reid’s suspension pending the outcome of that investigation. The letter has also been copied to Alex Chalk MP, the Lord Chancellor, whose consent is required before a judge can be suspended.
Basis of the complaint
The complaint focusses on statements made by Judge Reid concerning a trial of five women who broke windows at JP Morgan Bank, the leading financier of fossil fuel projects around the world, at the end of February this year.
Following a pattern of jury acquittals of environmental defenders who had taken similar action, Judge Reid used his public position to cast doubt on the reality of the climate crisis. He said:
The circumstances of the damage do not include any climate crisis which may or may not exist in the world at the moment … Whether climate change is as dangerous as each of the defendants may clearly and honestly believe or is not, is irrelevant and does not form any part of the circumstances of the damage.
Contrary to the fundamental, democratic principle of jury independence (also known as ‘jury equity’ or ‘jury nullification’), he then threatened the jury with criminal charges if they applied their conscience to the facts of the case:
It is only on the evidence you are able to try the case and not on conscience … It is a criminal offence for a juror to do anything from which it can be concluded that a decision will be made on anything other than the evidence.
Judge Reid: a ‘dangerous embarrassment’
Lead signatories to the letters explain this unprecedented intervention below. Professional rules of conduct make it difficult for practising barristers to speak out, but a leading criminal law KC, talking anonymously to Private Eye, said:
I’ve never encountered a judge threatening jurors in the way that Judge Silas Reid did. That suggests a clear determination by him to deter them from returning a verdict independently and without fear of punishment.
Melinda Janki, a Guyana-based lawyer, winner of the Commonwealth Lawyers Rule of Law Award, 2023, and one of the signatories, said:
The rule of law means that no-one is above the law, and that includes judges. I have a message to Judge Reid from Georgetown, Guyana.
We here are going to be underwater with 1.5˚C warming. It’s an abuse of judicial office to suggest that the breakdown of the global climate system could be belief or opinion.
It’s madness to send environmental defenders to prison just for using the words ‘climate change’ in court.
It’s unlawful to threaten a jury with criminal charges for applying their conscience to a case. The rule of law depends on accountability for judges who abuse their powers, which is why I’m joining the call for an investigation into Judge Reid’s conduct.
Charles Secrett, former director of Friends of the Earth, said:
Judge Silas Reid is a shocking example of how ignorant even the most learned man can be with his quasi-blasphemous rejection of the fundamental rights of juries and defendants, the objective rule of compassionate law, and the unavoidable primacy of climate science.
He is an antiquated, confused and dangerous embarrassment to the legal profession. He should be ‘dis-robed’ and removed from office at once.
Professor James E. Hansen, the former NASA scientist and ‘godfather of climate science’, said:
The cruelty of such ‘know nothing’ judges is not so much to the defendant as it is to our children and grandchildren.

This is not the first time Judge Reid has courted controversy with his judicial war against those who know the climate crisis to be real and dare to do something about it.

Justification by assertion, a tactic frequently used by the believers.
No scientific evidence of a “crisis” whatsoever and even the IPCC has warned about such claims.
The arguments of those fanatical zealots are irrelevant so far as the law is concerned. Note how they actually lie about what the judge said, a typical ploy of such people. The judge did not cast any doubt on whether or not climate change was happening. He simply said that it is totally irrelevant to the case.
The signatories either have English comprehension problems or they are deliberately lying to get the judge suspended.
The latter. It is a smear, an attempt to get rid of a judge who applies the law. The future is not “real” in any event.
Judge Reid
Under the UK legal system, juries are not independent of the judge.
It will be interesting to see how Judge Reid defends himself; perhaps on the basis of the lack of proof of CAGW?
He will defend himself on the basis of the law, which he has already set out.
You do not get off a murder charge because the victim was an unpleasant person. You might try pleading insanity, which is probably appropriate in these cases.

There are some circumstances in UK law where an “honestly held belief” can be used as a defence, although probably not in the “unpleasant person” context 🙂
For me, there is a nagging concern that a protestor claiming that they had an “honestly held belief” that the oceans were going boil unless there was immediate protest action might be taken seriously.
On the other hand, the publicity created by the medjia spotlight focusing on someone claiming that “I protested because the medjia said that the oceans were going to boil” could usefully undemine the believers.
‘The flack is always the heaviest when over the target’. Judge Reid was right over the alarmist’s target.
They should note what Judge Reid said “The circumstances of the damage do not include any climate crisis which may or may not exist in the world at the moment … Whether climate change is as dangerous as each of the defendants may clearly and honestly believe or is not, is irrelevant and does not form any part of the circumstances of the damage.” which is entirely correct. People have apparent or real motives for their crimes, but it is the ‘action’ of the committed crime that is being judged, NOT the motive.

Pretty clear that the kid gloving of protestors is consequent from biased judges too – but we’re not usually regaled with the history / context of the favourable judgements wrt eco loon criminal damage and obstruction crews.
The Canary seems to be the home of every leftie nutjob conspiracy on the planet.
They should go to the coal mines for an education.

Just checking my copy of the book published by the BBC and written by Nigel Calder which accompanied “The Weather Machine” documentary when it was broadcast in 1974:
“The 120 minute television programme, The Weather Machine, was first transmitted on BBC2 on 12th October 1974. It was made by the BBC as a coproduction with WNET (New York), Sveridges Radio (Stockholm), KRO (Hilversum), OECA (Toronto) and ZDF (Mainz).”
This version of the film looks like the WNET version of the coproduction. But it appears to be 30 minutes long, so it may be a considerably shortened version compared with the version that was broadcast in the UK.
