MWP 1.5C Warmer Than 1900–Says HH Lamb

By Paul Homewood

The Central England Temperature series is the longest running in existence, but still only goes back to 1659, pretty much the depth of the Little Ice Age, so it tells us little of real meaning.

However there exist many very real measures of temperatures going back much further – and I am not referring to the fraudulently used tree rings and the like.

HH Lamb published this chart in his book “Climate: Past, Present and Future” in 1977:

Note that none of these are Lamb’s own calculations; they are all based on work done by others expert in these fields of study.

They all concern summer months.

Generally speaking we are looking at Medieval temperatures between 1.0C and 1.5C higher than in 1900.

To put this into perspective, the rise in UK July temperatures since 1900 is of the order of one degree.

Moreover for tree lines to have been established at much higher altitudes means that Medieval warmth was not just a transitory thing – an odd year, or decade or so. The warmth must have been well established for centuries.

Lamb of course cannot tell us about winter temperatures, though records of Arctic sea ice tell their own story. But this evidence strongly points to a MWP just as warm in Europe as now.

Why any (allegedly) real scientist should ever have subscribed to the idea that our weather/climate was doing anything out of the ordinary OR that it was possible to do anything to prevent it OR that it might be remotely sensible even to try has got to be one of great mysteries of the 21st century.

I am assured that the current freak weather in the middle of France — we recorded over 100mm of rain in the last week, the second highest weekly figure in the last 10 years — is the direct result of the increased “carbon” that we have pumped into the atmosphere. My claim that it is much more likely to Hunga-Tonga’s tons of water vapour returning to the oceans was met with blank incomprehension, stopping just short of the suggestion that I ought to go and lie down till the fit passed.

I am waiting momentarily (as the Americans say) for the men in white coats to take me away. 😳

“UiAbout 8 or 9 years ago when we were still living in France there was a proposal to build 6 turbines in the commune. Most of the locals accepted that this was necessary “à cause du climat” or “pour réduire les émissions de carbone”.

I think I was one of the few people telling the planning inspectors from Paris that they were a waste of money because there wasn’t enough wind in Limousin to make it worthwhile, they would be a menace to birds particularly migrating cranes. A couple of local councillors didn’t believe me when I said the blade tips would be doing 300kph until the bloke from Paris said yes they would.

The plan was approved but I don’t know if they’ve been built yet.

80% of French electricity is from 59 nuclear generators, over 10% from geothermic and hydro. It has the lowest CO2 emissions for electricity for any European Country.

Why the need for wind power to replace nuclear and require gas back-up?

More evidence it’s about politics nothing more.

Not only thee, but me also! When the submarine volcano, Hunga Tonga, blasted around 1 Trillion litres of sea water into the Stratosphere that water, after travelling around the world, possibly, a few times on the jet stream, has to deposit it somewhere (what goes up must come……!)

Yet more solid data to bury the climate crisis scam. When will people start to realise they are being duped , big time.

I suspect they never will, because what we believe is more likely memory than a floating opinion we can easily change. What we believe is a fixed “structure” in our brain we refer to rather than something very malleable. We all know the problem of a memory being contradicted by solid evidence it is incorrect.

The two volumes of Hubert H Lamb’s masterwork together form a treasure trove, often of things we have forgotten or never knew. I feel sure that many readers will find Hubert’s suggestions of the beginning of the troubled history of Northern Ireland of particular interest (see page 471).

I would but a copy of the page would be far better. Sadly unlike Paul I don’t seem to be able to copy and paste here. Sorry.

I have the actual books – “Climate:Present, Past and Future- Vol 2” and also “Climate, History and the Modern World”

      I’ll happily post any excerpts

Paul, I have been reading, ‘Climate, History and the Modern World’ 2nd ed. 1995 and it is revelation in terms of the historical data that is presented and the inescapeable conclusions. I am reminded of a verse I wrote, many years ago, faced with a similar stubborness in the face of overwhelming data.

“What’s the use of equations and other relations,

And symbols drawn out in a line?

Thus did Faraday cry and they could but reply,

They are easy to teach – to the blind!”

Computer modelling using mathematics that you don’t understand the limitations of, is wasted effort.

Only a wilfully blind man/woman/pretend gender, could doubt any of that.

H.H. Lamb’s graph of Medieval warming greater than now was confirmed in 1998. A group led by Shaopeng Huang of the University of Michigan completed a major analysis of over 6,000 borehole records from every continent around the world. Their study went back 20,000 years. The portion covering the last millennium is shown in Figure 4.

Let me tell you what they’ll say:the MWP wasn’t worldwide, in fact some areas were cooler.

They have had to remove the MWP, because otherwise it is an embarrassment to them.
