Brendan O’Neill: Queen Greta has exposed the truth about the green movement

The Daily Telegraph, 12 May 2024

There is a reason, beyond bandwagon-jumping, why climate zealots are raging against Israel. They feel revulsion at capitalism and modernity

So, Greta Thunberg has a new cause. She’s found a new crusade to throw her weight behind. Forget saving the planet – now she wants to save Palestine.

Yes, the pint-sized prophetess of doom has swapped raging against industrialism for raging against Israel. Mother Nature will just have to wait – her erstwhile valiant defender is busy fixing the Middle East now.

Yesterday, Greta was snapped at the protest in Malmo, Sweden against Israel’s inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest.

She looked the part. She had a keffiyeh draped over her shoulders and a smug look on her face: the two must-haves of every puffed-up bourgeois activist who gets off on fuming against Israel.

The keffiyeh really has become the uniform of the self-righteous. Go into a hip coffee shop or overpriced Soho burger joint and I guarantee you’ll see a Gen Z’er decked out in the Palestinian scarf.

Whatever happened to the sin of “cultural appropriation”? Not long ago, the right-on raged against white dudes who wear their hair in dreadlocks and white women who don kominos. “Stop stealing other people’s culture!”, they’d yell. Yet now they themselves spend their days in Arab attire.

That image of Greta in Malmo, looking very satisfied with herself, summed up the role the keffiyeh plays in the life of the 21st-century activist. Keffiyeh-wearing is less about drawing attention to the plight of the Palestinians than drawing attention to you. Look at me in my Arab garb, aren’t I good and hyper socially aware – that’s the needy cry of these hipster appropriators.

Yet beneath their radical chic, darker sentiments lurk. Their boilerplate hatred for Israel can have horrible consequences. So while young Greta was signalling her virtue on the streets of Malmo, another young woman was holed up in her hotel room for fear of mob assault.

It was Eden Golan, the Israeli-Russian 20-year-old who sang for Israel in the Eurovision finals in Malmo.

Golan’s inclusion in Eurovision sickened the anti-Israel protesters. Israel, they said, must be given the boot over its “genocide in Gaza” – their juvenile and historically illiterate term for Israel’s war against Hamas.

A mob even swarmed around the hotel Ms Golan was staying in. She received death threats. Things were so bad that she was warned not to leave her room. She was given a 24-hour security detail.

Is this really “progressive activism”? It looks more like bullying to me. The bullying of a young woman by a baying mob of Israel-bashers.

How galling that Greta should have been in the thick of such a regressive protest. This is someone who has spoken out about her own experiences of bullying. Who has said that women in the public eye get too much flak.

Yet now she preens at a protest that has had the consequence, intentional or otherwise, of filling a young woman with such dread that she has essentially become a prisoner in her own hotel.

We might call this woke privilege. Because Greta subscribes to chattering-class correct-think on every issue – climate change, transgenderism, Israel – she is granted the freedom to go about her business as she sees fit.

Ms Golan, on the other hand, is denied such basic liberty. Her national heritage, her devotion to her homeland, marks her out as morally suspect. And thus she must hide. “Shame!”, protesters shouted, as if she were a modern-day witch deserving of a dunking.

It is tempting to see Greta’s conversion from the climate-change cult to the anti-Israel religion as just bandwagon-jumping.

Perhaps her saviour complex, her burning sense of virtue, just needs a new outlet. So, like others of her generation, she ditches climate and trans and all the rest and moves on to “Palestine solidarity”. That’s the issue on which you can really make moral waves these days.

But I think there’s something else going on, too. The truth is that climate activism and anti-Israel agitation are very comfy bedfellows. There are even some creepy commonalities between green agitation and Israel’s greatest ideological foe: radical Islam.

Both, at root, represent a disgust with modernity. Both the privileged Western weepers over industrial society and the Islamist haters of Israel share an aversion to the modern world, to progress, to Enlightenment itself.

Hence we can even have a situation where Muslim activists who yell “Allahu Akbar” can be elected as councillors for the Green Party.

The upper-middle class recycling obsessive in Hampstead might seem a million miles from the bearded radical who publicly sings the praises of Allah – but they share an instinctive revulsion for capitalist society. One sees it as a crime against Mother Nature, the other as an affront to Muhammad.

To both sides, Israel is the pinnacle of the modernity they hate. A young, confident, entrepreneurial nation that rendered the desert a land of plenty? Boo. Hiss. Cast its people from our social circles.

So it makes sense that Greta has temporarily ditched Gaia for Gaza. For this crisis, too, furnishes her with an opportunity to advertise her pious rejection of the modern world.

The Doom Goblin as I prefer to reference her, was a used puppet, used by nefarious adults who took advantage (abused) of her afflictions, for their own ends – the fact Western leaders (except Trump) fawned over her, almost on their knees in divine reverence, speaks volumes why our politics and energy system are in tatters

Like all the other lefties, who’ve stopped gluing themselves to roads and paintings, they’ve jumped on the capitalism bashing Gaza parade as their new God and these types of people need religious hysteria to function, it’s what gets them through the day, rather than a job and a contribution to society
We are in the midst of the Marxist long march and you see it in every facet of society, from culture wars, to faux Gaza sympathies – anything to rage against the system

We saw it in the 70’s with Punk Rock – down with capitalism and power to the people

It will pass once its run its course, they’ll grow up (hopefully) and once net zero power cuts arrive, they’ll be marching against the rationing, guaranteed

No doubt the Doom Goblin has a nice big photo of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Al Husseini, with his chum the little Austrian Corporal, stuck on her bedroom ceiling.

Al Husseini promised Adolf that as soon as he’d won the war, the Arabs would unfailingly exterminate all the Jews in the Middle East.

No wonder Husseini is such a hero of Ĥamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinian Authority, the Mad Mullahs and lefty indictrianated western youth everywhere. Climate Change? Husseini makes little Greta feel REALLY hot!

The lefties hate being informed that the Nazis were indeed far left racists, I remind them as often as I can

      • May 14, 2024 12:38 pm

If Nazis were far left, why did they sit on the far right of the Reichstag?

Why do people who painstakingly seek the truth on complex matters like climate science talk nonsense on simple facts that anyone can verify?

“Far Left” or “Far Right”, really not a big difference. Note however that both score very high indeed on the Authoritarian – Libertarian axis.

And not in a good way.

Incidentally, did you ever wonder what NAZI actually stands for? Why, that would be the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). A bit of a clue right there. And please don’t forget that the Soviets were more than happy to let the Germans practice and develop their weaponry in Germany before the war, with the Nazi-Soviet Pact (Ribbentrop – Molotov) signed before Poland was occupied and destroyed in September 1939. Best of chums until Operation Barbarossa in 1941.

Great comment Martin – it is well acknowledged that the Nazis were driven by far left politics – as with todays far left, rabid, disgusting antisemitism is part of their MO – I’ve recently been watching Sky’s Tattooist of Auschwitz, a harrowing reminder of the atrocities of extreme left wing ideology, throughout history

        to Martin Brumby

The authoritarian/libertarian scale is useless, being necessarily specific to time & circumstance. I scored more libertarian than Gandhi & more statist than Stalin. Just as uselessly specific is the fact that the Nazis had the word “socialist” in their name.

The head of the French Socialists in the upcoming EU elections will be sitting on the left, despite the fact that he’s a Jew who was a paid adviser to Nazis in Ukraine. So what?

All that matters is evidence of what’s happening here and now. Israel is deliberately murdering women, children, journalists, intellectuals, medical workers & UN staff. Conservatives including Spiked!’s Brendan O’Neill & intelligent civilised climate sceptics like Montford & Eschenbach are supporting the murderers. Naive juveniles like Thunberg are supporting the victims.

This is the first time Greta has actually rebelled against the establishment.

She was pushing against an open door with the all climate communism BS since our governing elite are all for it.

But woe-betide anyone who criticises Israel. Agree or disagree on this issue – it’s good to see a useful idiot wise-up and bite the hand that feeds them.

Very few of these Millennial numbskulls know anything of the history of the region. So let me elucidate a little, hopefully without upsetting the internet censor-lords too much.

*** Islam – the Ethics and Morality of a Warlord ***

Palestinian culture, ethics and morality were devised by a genocidal warlord, some 1,400 years ago.  Yes, Muhummad was a petty warlord and bandit, who plundered the camel-trains of Sandy Arabia, and divided up the spoils of those thefts among themselves. Which is why Chapter 8 is called the Spoils of War (Muhummad got 20%, see verse 41).

    The Spoils of War

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Anfal

And when Muhummad suspected the Jewish Banu Quraysah tribe of disloyalty, he beheaded all 800 men of the tribe. Yes, much of Sandy Arabia and Iraq were substantially Jewish at this time, due to the 6th century Babylonian exile. The last Jewish king of Iraq was Naim Dangoor, who was exiled to England in the 1960s. He had a claim in at the UN for $50 billion in lost assets, which were never paid.

Mass.acre of the Jewish Banu Quraysah:

    https://wikiislam.net/wiki/The_Massacre_of_the_Banu_Qurayzah

Thus Muhummad was the Al Capone of the 6th century, and his religion was (and still is) the same as the Chicago mob  —  be subservient to us, and pay the jizya tax on unbelievers, or we will sent the boys around with AK47s.  Islam was and is The Great Protection Racket.  I will post chapter and verse in a following post, in case these verses upset the internet gods.

I am not entirely sure why the Liberal Left support a genocidal protection racket. Nor am I clear on why the Liberal Left adopted Hit!er’s primary social policy, so soon after WWII. (Note however, that Hit!er was a left-wing socialist, just like modern Lefties. See the party that he led.)

However, when Muhummad’s armies fanned out across the Near East in the 6th to 7th centuries, they destroyed everything in sight. Entire nations were genocidally destroyed or exiled. Thus we still see today, the 800 Dead Cities of Aleppo that still lie abandoned in Syria to this day. All of those Christian communities were destroyed – plus most of the cities of the Christian Levant, Christian Anatolia, and Christian North Africa.

The 800 Dead Cities of Aleppo:

You might also like this read – was Bashar Assad of Syria a sinner or saint? Actually, Assad is the protector of religious minorities, so should be the daaarling of Liberal Luvvies. A controversial proposal I know, considering the wall to wall negative media coverage, but ponder on this proposal for a while:

So you can get a better idea of the tenor of lslam, here are a few of my favourite verses from the Korran. Judge for yourself, if fervent adherents of this creed can be compatible with 21st century Western civilisation.

      3.    Fight against the unbelievers until idolatry is no more, and god’s religion reigns supreme. 2:193

      4.    Muslims, fighting is obligatory for you, even if you dislike it.  2:216

      5.    Say to the unbelievers. ‘you shall be overthrown and driven into hell, an evil resting place’. 3:10

      6.    Those who make war on god and Muhummad … shall be crucified and have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides. 3:34

      7.    They shall strive to get out of the fire, but they shall not. A lasting punishment awaits them. 3:37

      8.    The unbelievers shall be sternly punished in this world and in the world to come, there shall be none to help them. 3:58

      9.    The reward for the unbeliever will be the curse of god, angels and all mankind, and under it they will abide forever. 3:88

      10.    Lay hold on the unbelievers, and kill them wherever you find them. 4:91

      11.    The unbelievers are your inveterate foe. 4:101

12     As for the unbelievers, if they offered the whole earth to redeem themselves … it will not be accepted from them. A woeful punishment awaits them. They will strive to get out of the fire, but they will not. A lasting punishment awaits them. 5:36

      13.    Who will receive a worse punishment from god? Those who god has cursed and transformed into apes and pigs, and those who serve the devil. 5:60

14     Those who turn away from the Koran shall be sternly punished for their indifference. 6:157

      15.    God said … I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the tips of their fingers. 8:12

      16.    Make war on the unbelievers until idolatry ceases and god’s religion reigns supreme. 8:40

      17.    The basest of creatures in the sight of god are the faithless and those who will not believe. 8:55

      18.    Let not the unbelievers think they will get away … Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your command, so you may strike fear into the enemies of god. 8:59

19     Muhummad, rouse the Muslims to arms. If there are twenty among you, they shall vanquish two hundred. And if there are a hundred with you, they shall rout a thousand unbelievers; for they are devoid of understanding. 8:65

      20.    Proclaim a woeful punishment for the unbelievers.  9:4

      21.   When the sacred months are over, slay the idolators wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them and lie in ambush everywhere for them. 9:5

      22.   Make war on the leaders of the unbelievers. 9:12

      23.   Make war on the unbelievers, god will chastise them at your hands and humble them. 9:14

      24.   Fight those to who the scriptures were given, and do not believe in god and the Last Day … until they pay the religious tax in absolute submission 9:29

25     Muslims, if you do not go to war, god will punish you sternly and will replace you by other men. 9:39

      26.    Make war on the unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal harshly with them. 9:73

      27.    As for the unbelievers, scalding water they will drink, and for their unbelief a woeful punishment awaits them. 10:9

28     They shall be bound with chains. They are heirs of the Fire and shall abide in it forever. 13:6

      29.   Punishment awaits the unbelievers in this life, but a more grievous punishment awaits them in the life to come. 13:34

      30.   Do they not see how we invade their lands and diminish their borders? 13:40

      31.   Woe betide the unbelievers, for they shall be sternly punished. 14:2

      32.   Hell will stretch behind the unbeliever, and putrid water he shall drink … Death will assail him from every side, yet he shall not die. A harrowing torment awaits him. 14:16

      33.   The unbeliever will burn in hell, and evil will be their fate. 14:29

      34.   On that day you will see the unbelievers bound in chains, their garments will be pitch, and their faces covered with flames. 14:50

35     God will gather the unbelievers on the day of resurrection, prostrate upon their faces, blind, dumb and deaf. Hell shall be their home: whenever the flames die down, god will rekindle them. Thus shall they be rewarded because they disbelieved. 17:98

36    For the unbelievers god has prepared a fire which will encompass them like the walls of a pavilion. When they cry out for help they shall be showered with water as hot as molten brass, which will scald their faces. Evil shall be their drink, evil will be their resting place. 18:29

      37.   On that day, god shall lay bare Hell before the unbelievers, who have turned a blind eye to my reprimand and a deaf ear to my warning … We have prepared a Hell for the unbelievers to dwell in. 18:100

      38.   We will call the unbelievers to account in company with all the devils, and set them on their knees around the fires of Hell. 19:70

      39.    Know that god sends down devils to the unbelievers, to incite them to evil. The day will come when we gather the righteous before the Lord, and drive the guilty to hell in thirsty hoards. 18:87

      40.   If only the unbelievers knew the day when they shall strive in vain to shield their faces and their backs from the fires of hell; they day when none shall help them. 21:39

      41.   If anyone thinks that god will not give victory to Muhummad in this world and the next, let him tie a rope to the ceiling of his house and hang himself. 21:15

      42.   Garments of fire have been prepared for the unbelievers. Scalding water will be poured upon their heads to melt their skins and that which is in their bellies; and they shall be lashed with rods of ireon. If they try to escape, they shall be dragged back and told, ‘taste the torment and the Fires’. 22:19

      50.   Muslims do not take the Jews and Christians for friends. 3:28

      51.   Muslims, do not make friends with anyone but your own people. 3:118

      52.   Muslims, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends. 5:51.

I have another 460 only slightly less disturbing verses, if you are interested.

Charles Martel, 8th century saviour of Western Europe, is almost forgotten. I made a visit to the site of the Battle of Poitiers (Battle of Tours) apart from a small plaque there’s not really a lot to see.

Despite all the woke antisemitism the public in Western Europe gave Eden Golan the 2nd highest vote. Unfortunately not enough to overcome the votes of the Juries. Apparently the Italian public gave her 40% of their vote in the semi-final.

Even more forgotten, is Guillaume de Gellone (William of Orange), who defeated the second lslamic invasion of France at the end of the 8th century. He strong-armed Louis I, into lending him his army (Louis was married to William’s sister.)

The princes of Orange were chased out of Orange by Louis XIV (the ungrateful wretch), and settled in Holland. Where they led the Reformation, and saved us from Catholic tyranny.

We should have a celebration day, to thank the Princes of Orange.

The rationale is to foster a One World Government. But if they destroy the West, we will end up ruled by a despotic Chinese, Russian, or lslamic tyrant – and then where will the world be?

The Ottoman Empire got busted up by loosing WWI. Britain got the middle-east. In 1948, the British ceded the territory to Jewish people for them to create the state of Isreal. The UN approved.

The legitimate state of Isreal has been attacked – repeatedly – by people in the territory of Palestine/Gaza. They righteously are taking control of that area.

The PLO was the main conduit for Soviet terror to the West throughout the Cold War, channeling training, money and armaments into many, many terrorist groups, amongst them the Provisional IRA who it trained in the Bekaa Valley, a vile group who killed friends of mine in Northern Ireland.

So while Israelis have been contributing disproportionately to the sum of human knowledge – the Intel processor was designed in Israel in 1972, for example

“Palestinians” have contributed only blood and death and terror, their most significant contribution being the child suicide bomber.

Page after page after page of them, not just in the Middle East but throughout the rest of the World too, bombings, hijackings and atrocities from Japan to Argentina and everywhere in between, recently excelling themselves on 07/10 by burning babies alive in ovens, tying children together with wire, pouring petrol over them and setting them on fire, all the while filming themselves and finding it highly entertaining.

Mike, you need to read some history. How far do you want to go back? The Ottomans were skint in the 1880’s and sold ‘palestine’ to anyone that was stupid enough to invest there, that excludes the nomadic tribes who wanted to rob or acquire everything that was springing up there. Start with that and the 1927 Hebdon massacre and progress to Yassar Arafat inventing the ‘palestinian’ people and you’ll have a basic starting point. The palenstinians are squatters that never produced anything apart from murder and robbery.

Israel is a legally recognised country, since its inception it has repeatedly had to fight vastly larger combined forces determined to wipe every Jew off the Earth, not displace them, not force them to flee, but the total elimination of each and every Jew- man, woman and child. The land the Palestinians claim was stolen was purchased by European Jews before the WW1 when the Ottoman Empire controlled the area, the land purchased may have had tenant farmers who were Palestinians but once the land was purchased and the tenancy due for renewal they were asked to leave- a normal business transaction, carried out in a land that had historically been Jewish land anyway.
Although the World blames Israel for everything in Gaza ask yourself one question- why, when Israel is surrounded by Muslim states, do none want Palestinian refugees- Egypt is building a bigger better border was directly on Gaza’s border and is slowly closing the tunnels, Jordan, Iran, Syria, Lebanon- none want these “victims” because every time they have been helped, all they have done is formed terror groupings and started internal internecine war, murdering, raping, robbing forcing their “hosts” into combat, hence, no Palestinian Refugees here thank you- the current terror heads housed in Qatar are tightly controlled to prevent unwanted terrorism being unleashed on Qataris, the heads of Hamas know that if they play ball, they will be protected.

So before you make claims about Israel and the “poor Palestinians” ask yourself, who has been firing missiles into Israel day in, day out for untold years- no doubt you feel these are the actions of a good neighbour and are perfectly acceptable, as were the actions of Hamas on October 7th, and the actions since with the hostages being used a bait to goad Israel.

      Ethical people work together.

The original UN plan to divide the land between the river and the sea (Trans Jordan having already been grabbed as Jordan) between Jews and Arabs was rejected by the Arabs who invaded in 1948 and were defeated. 750,000 Arabs were displaced but 750-900,000 Jews were displaced from Muslim lands and absorbed by the nascent state of Israel. 20% of Israelis are Arab Muslims and occupy a disproportionately higher percentage of high status occupations such as medicine, pharmacy and law. The IDF has the lowest ‘collateral damage’ ratios of any army in the world. Israel is the only democracy in the region. Plus Nobel Prizes etc. etc.

In 1948 Jews lived all round the Mediterranean, now Israel is the only place they are free (not safe of course but free) to live. Gaza was part of Egypt, the attitude of the Egyptians to the inhabitants of Gaza is instructive. Hamas seized power in 2007 and is dedicated to the elimination of all Jews. It hides behind the residents of Gaza in its quest. Its billionaire leaders hang out in Qatar of course.

If Cuba was firing 5,000 rockets a day onto Washington, would they do nothing about it? If the Isle of Man was firing 2,000 rockets a day onto your town, would you dance in the street, and clamour for a zero response?

Perhaps you don’t know that this war has been going on for 1,300 years, and lslam respects nothing, excepting a firm response. Bashar Assad understands the problem, as his people lived in the gutters for over 1,000 years.

This is no Sunday afternoon cricket.

This is lslam, which tells its people to subjugate the world.

And be happy to die, to subjugate the world.

You should be thanking lsrael, for protecting the West; protecting Britain; protecting your town; and protecting your family. Because without a firm response – you will be next in the firing-line…

Without God, you have no basis for determining what is mentally ill, or recognising it in the first place. There is no worldview system that calls for greater faith than atheism.

Atheism is a tragedy – a walking contradiction that says everything is an accident, except the thoughts of the atheist which automatically get attributed some supreme rationality. It elevates personal preference and desire to its own god-like status, and then wonders why there are so many wars and conflict. According to the Encyclopedia of War, 92% of all wars have been instigated by atheists, and 7% by Islam.

There is a reason Jesus pointed to pride as the pre-eminent sin.

        Without God,

Which god is that then? Or do you mean any god? How many different gods do the believers have these days? Is it into the thousands yet? There are certainly lots to choose from !

I’m uncertain if your post is your genuine opinion or whether it’s “Pythonesque” satire. If the latter then it’s well written, and extracts might be borrowed.

I would prefer a world without gods and without belief systems, but perhaps impossible now until interstellar travel is achieved.

In the interim, perhaps a compromise is that the believers do not involve non-believers in any of the believers’ activities? There was a time when escape from the believers could be achieved by sailing West across the Atlantic to North America.

        Thanks Micky.

There is only one God, which some proper investigation would reveal. As the saying goes – what do they call an atheist who tries to disprove the resurrection of Christ? A Christian.

But to answer more directly, you cannot have both a universe created by accident and a claim to reason and order. That is why you are literally stealing God’s provision of logic to try to prove he doesn’t exist. Logic is unchanging, non-material and has no explanation in an atheistic worldview. How do you know your logic or reason is sound when you are using logic and reason to prove itself? That is why you would not be able to identify mental illness, because you expect order in your universe that does not permit it. Just look at the 2nd law of thermodynamics which demonstrates quite clearly that order descends into chaos, not the other way around (try leaving your garden untouched for a year and see what happens).

In your random universe, there are no standards by which you can measure mental illness, or values or anything else. You can make them up of course, but that does not make them valid, because everyone else can do the same and theirs will inevitably be different. How do you resolve that? You don’t – you get the situation we are now in, where my truth is all that counts. And that is the very world you are wishing for. Bless you – the only resolution is to accept that there is an external set of standards by which we are held accountable. And that actually is where you get most of your day to day functionality – you act as if there are standards, and meaning, when in fact there isn’t any without God.

        What?

The origins of Man – Homo sapiens – go back over 200, perhaps 300, thousand years. Surely, at least a hundred thousand years. God chose to reveal himself to us about 3 thousand years ago. So for virtually the entire time of existence of Man, God was unknown to us. And yet, “Without God, you have no basis for determining what is mentally ill, or recognising it in the first place.”

        That is simply bizarre.

Why did God wait so long?

Interesting response. This isn’t the best forum for a discussion like this, but I will try.

There are 2 worldviews – God made everything, and everything was an accident. The hundreds of thousands of years comes from the latter view, and the only thing which attempts to support that view of long ages is evolution. That is such a discredited theory that even evolutionary professors like Raymond Lewontin are quoted as saying that they believe in evolution in spite of the evidence, and not because of it. Dawkins was left speechless when asked for a single example of mutations adding information to the human genome, and it is an established scientific fact that our genetic systems are declining not improving each generation – genetic entropy has caused professors to query why we aren’t extinct yet as a species because of the cumulative errors being passed on.

I don’t expect to convince you that is the truth in a paragraph. However, you may wish to consider a wider perspective. Everytime the world elites want a particular narrative to become the mainstream view, they push it into every public arena and ruthlessly suppress the truth. Climate change, covid, lockdowns, HIV, are all causes that have benefited from this treatment. Over the last 25 years, creationism has been systematically erased from European education – firstly in universities where you could not get a job with Christian worldviews, and now in schools where it is legally forbidden to even discuss it (even in answer to a child’s question). Creationism has therefore been sidelined along with other views that claim to be truth. I think that is more than coincidence.

So, to get to your question – God didn’t wait. He created Adam and Eve and was there from the beginning. Adam decided he knew better, one son killed another from jealousy and that has now been the history of the human race, and why we are where we are. God is available to anyone that seeks him, but it is on his terms, not ours.

But, going further, what is wrong with a false dichotomy in a random material universe? And how can you tell without using God’s reason?

      • May 14, 2024 1:51 pm

        There is only one God,

Which god of many is that then? Or is it the god whose name can only be spoken under threat of being stoned?

there are no standards by which you can measure mental illness

There are several non-religious methods to measure mental health, e.g psychosis is a mental health problem created by various different mental health issues; many believers exhibit symptoms of psychotic disorder including delusions, hallucinations and confused/disturbed thoughts. Mental health professionals can determine the treatment required by the patient by measuring the extent of the psychosis e.g. does the patient require to be “sectioned” ? Where “sectioned” means being taken into protective detention at a medical health facility.

With due respect, they all presuppose reason, order and a standard of sanity. Where do they come from in an accidental universe where everything is just a chemical reaction? In that existence, who can judge what is sane and what is not? You may as well ask what is saner (or truer, or better – all the qualitative judgements you take for granted) – the fizz from a shaken bottle of coke or a shaken Dr Pepper? The answer is neither – they are just chemical reactions.

You are borrowing the attributes of a created orderly world to try to demonstrate it is somehow not created. We all know that sanity and order exist, but I can account for it. You can’t.

You live as if God exists, expecting order, reason, justice, love etc etc and then deny it, because to accept it makes you accountable for your behaviour.

Evolution explains the great variety of life on earth. All your rhetoric fails for the simple reason that for you to displace evolution, you have to come up with A BETTER THEORY. That’s how science works.

Consider the following quote from Churchill’s 1899 book, The River War: An Historical Account of the Reconquest of the Soudan (vol.1):

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

    The Nazi threat:

If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

Interesting that you absolutely believe Hamas Agit-Prop.

Yes you believe the UN’s figures (and that’s the same UN that has Iran and Syria and China criticising Israel for “human Rights” violations):-

May 6th the UN published data showing that 34,735 people had reportedly been killed in Gaza, including over 9,500 women and over 14,500 children.

May 8th the UN published data showing 34,844 people had reportedly been killed, including 4,959 women and 7,797 children. (Resurrections, right there!) But new figures showed the number of identified deaths as of April 30, which total 24,686 people. The new data also specified that 10,006 men and 1,924 elderly had been killed.

The UN also highlighted that the plurality of identified fatalities were 40% men, while children were 32% and women were 20%.

You’ve seen the “children” welcomed into England from Border Force / RNLI taxi service across the channel. You know, the “children” with furrowed brows and bushy beards. In Gaza, they also sport assault rifles and grenades. But yes, you saw your chosen photos and videos. And chose those you “believe”.

Certainly, Gazan “real” children also die. Just like their Israeli counterparts.

Please explain which war it was that never killed civilians, on both sides.

        to Martin Brumby.

What don’t I believe? Most of the detail you enumerate. I’ve explained why at length to Willis Eschenbach at

https://cliscep.com/2024/01/09/in-praise-of-willis-eschenbach/ Instead of replying to me, Willis accused me of masturbating to horror porn. That’s the Eschenbach we’ve all admired for his insistence on evidence based reasoning.

That common belief in reason, which is the basis for all civilised discourse, has been destroyed (let’s hope temporarily) by events in Palestine.

I’ve answered your question. Now answer mine. Why don’t you believe Hamas, given that they have always proved a reliable source of information in the past? Even the UN says so.

        Geoff Chambers.

        Yes the UN.

        Trustworthy to a fault.

Like Figueres, like Guterres, like Ben Santer, like Pauchari, like Maurice Strong, etc.etc.

You’ll be quoting from Bill Gates and the Grauniad, next.

Apologies. I shouldn’t have mentioned the UN since I can’t remember who it was who said Hamas was a trustworthy source. Pretty sure it wasn’t Maurice Strong.

Hamas says 15,000 children have died (not counting the bits still under the rubble). Jerusalem Post says half that. It hardly matters, since if it’s not 15,000 now it soon will be. UK surgeon today says people not dying from wounds are dying from infections aggravated by malnourishment.

Now tell me that British surgeons were seen playing handball with a woman’s breast while raping her. Someone here will believe you.

Read your cliscep attack on Willis Eschenbach, his ‘sock’ comment was a bit OTT but I can see what he was getting at. Too much consumption of Pallywood output could make one eyeless on Gaza. France for the past thirty years and all your information about UK from Guardian and BBC is the clue to your baffling posts I think. Thought at first you were an AI informed disruptor bot, they appear here from time to time. By the way I don’t think the Germans had a hand in Crimean War and as to being our oldest allies does that include Angles, Saxons and Jutes? You missed out the inconvenient detail of Molotov-Ribbentrop and the joint invasion of Poland.

I am an atheist and have no time for superstitions including religions. however the Palestinians have, and continue to have, a raw deal. the Israelies regard all jews as citizens of their country, and entitled to a home there, to this end the IDF confiscates Palestinian homes and property. To justify this by reference to events centuries ago is to akin to me demanding a farmhouse in Denmark because my ancestors may, some 1500 years ago, have come from there.

        More nonsense.

Despite the best efforts of the Persians, the Romans and the Arabs, Jews have lived in Israel for thousands of years. Centuries before the “Prophet” was a twinkle in his Daddy’s eye.

More Jews moved back to their ancestral homeland towards the end of the C19th having tired of the increasing pogroms in the Pale of Settlement. They started turning a shithole into a land of milk and honey. When they wanted more land, they purchased it, quite legally, if at an inflated price, from the Ottoman Empire.

After the 1915 Genocide of the (Christian) Armenians, (especially in 1915) and after loosing WWI, the League of Nations split the Levant primarily between France and Britain. They also decreed that the Jews and the Arabs should have a homeland.

After WWII and the multiple genocides (see Timothy Snyder’s “Bloodlands), and after continual massacres by the Arabs (not least the followers of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammed Amin al-Husseini, the guy who personally promised the Austrian Corporal to exterminate all Jews in the Middle East,) the UN confirmed that a Jewish Homeland would indeed be set up (albeit giving half the promised land to Jordan.)

In 1948, when the massed Arab armies had their first genocidal attack on Israel, they instructed Arab residents to leave their homes for a few weeks so that the Arabs could attack indiscriminately. Unfortunately for the Arabs, they failed and the “Refugee” problem dates right back to that invasion.

Not much to do with Denmark 1,500 years ago.

You might also like to check out what happened to the thriving and ancient Jewish communities right across the Middle East and North Africa. All gone. Now it is the Christians who are getting wiped out.

Some useful facts of ancient history there. Some more disputable in recent times, and some omissions. For example, Jews were persuaded to leave Iran by a Mossad bombing campaign.

The essential thing for climate sceptics to retain is that political reality was muddied for decades by the left’s adoption of insane policies on climate, & obsession with the trivial questions of sexual & racial identity. A genocide broadcast live has brought politics back to normality, with the left protesting, ineffectively & often incoherently, & the right defending the indefensible with considerable talent & zero morality.
